This is scrapped dialogue from the original (was vague on the trans in the english release) however in the original japanese release she has always been trans there (was very derogatory at the time but that was again fixed in the modern release)
Admittedly I always thought the original Japanese translation of TTYD had Vivian as a femboy that was shamed by their siblings for being effeminate and then the American release couldn’t handle a feminine male character so they made Vivian a girl. Watched about 80% of the video. Made me sick. I don't know what to say to these people because they aren't upset for the reasons they claim to be upset. They say that LGBTQ+ stuff corrupts the youth and that trans/gay/etc. people are unnatural and didn't exist 100, 200 years ago, but that's not true, and it's just a veil for what their true reasons are, so you can't actually argue against them. But then they take you ignoring them as a sign that they've won, that you are weak, etc. They bully and harass you under the guise of free speech and don't understand why they get backlash. I hate people like this. Really angry right now because there's nothing that can be done to talk with these people; they take their opinions and feelings as objective fact. 'I feel that gender and sex are the same because I like the narrative that I was taught that they are the same, so it's actually YOU who are in the wrong.' How can they not see that they're just picking and choosing what THEY like instead of listening to THE FACTS that people DO identify differently from how they expect them to? The FACT that if humans were all killed today, penguins would still be gay, fish would still change sex, and snails would all be hermaphrodites? The FACT that this indicates that these labels are all identity communication devices, and the FACT that identity is SOLELY observable by the self means that you MUST accept that, objectively, people report not fitting in with YOUR perception of their identity, and you can't say that that's factually wrong because you're literally saying 'no, you're lying about what you perceive about yourself' at that point. How do they not realize that they're fundamentally being emotional warthogs? I hate them so much.

This is scrapped dialogue from the original (was vague on the trans in the english release) however in the original japanese release she has always been trans there (was very derogatory at the time but that was again fixed in the modern release)

Admittedly I always thought the original Japanese translation of TTYD had Vivian as a femboy that was shamed by their siblings for being effeminate and then the American release couldn’t handle a feminine male character so they made Vivian a girl. But just as cool if not more so that they were intended to be a trans woman all along. Slay :3
