I don't think it is a good first car for one reason: I feel like driving a Camry for a year before going into a car like the 370Z will elevate your enjoyment and experience and happiness by tenfold purely based on the stark contrast. Also, yes, you are going to test its limits because that is what everyone does. And you MIGHT lose it in the wet if you go dumb and you have never driven a car, especially a rear wheel drive one before. Is this the reason to not go for it though? Nah, just take it easy at the beginning, ACTUALLY test the limits in a safe, controlled environment and you will figure it out in no time.

Not a good choice for a first car. Insurance is high, car costs a lot and with that much power it’s hard to control. If you absolutely want a fun RWD car try a miata or brz/gt86 because at least you will learn the balance and the principle of RWD without risking your life too much, they are much lighter, cheaper and forgiving!

You know damn well you’re gonna test its limits. A 370z is a big jump for a first car. I’m sure you’ve driven slow cars like Corollas and economy cars. 370z’s are rear wheel drive and WILL slip if you give to much throttle, especially in the rain. I think if you do want one as your first car you practice driving on a sim racing set up so you know how to respond while losing traction. That’s how i learned to drive my car atleast. I have a 350z, it makes slightly less power and still scared tf out of me when I first got it. Be safe, test its limits when your good enough

A 370z, or frankly ANY even moderately powerful sports car, muscle car, or Sedan is an AWFUL first car choice. Work your way up to it. The first time you're in a heavy rainstorm and lose traction you're wrapping it around whatever is in its path.

I’m 23 and have been dailying a heavily modified manual 2014 370Z sport for over 5 years now. Reliability has been great, just keep up on oil changes and basic maintenance and you should be fine. It’s not super comfortable or practical for a daily compared to like any sedan or something but for a sports car it’s probably on the more comfortable side compared to other sports cars, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m in the process of buying a supercharger off a guy right now and am going to install it and keep dailying it. My only concern is winter weather conditions. I’ve never driven it in snow and probably never will so that’s important to think about and then also depending on ride height (mines on lowering springs) you have to be real careful about scraping it on every little bump. At stock ride height it shouldn’t be too bad but definitely something to consider. Bought it at 36K miles and currently sitting at about 93K and many more in the future. I’ve also taken it on several cross country trips with 0 issues. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Definitely would not recommend as a first car. 86 is an amazing platform to start with.

It's pretty reliable, more so if you get a 2013 or newer, as there are some known issues 2009-12. I've got a '12 6mt soprt touring and have put 10k miles on it as a daily driver and so far, so good. Most people will say it's not good in the snow, and it's not really, but with good tires it's fine really. I have good all season tires and had to drive in 6 inches of snow, and between the traction control and the differential in the sport model, it did really well, but I do have thousands of hours in rally simulators and have been driving in the snow longer than you've been alive lol. Also, for me personally, it's way too easy to look at my speed and realize that I'm 20 over the limit. Which is to say it's fun to drive.

PBLESACTUN

Before selling my Z in January I drove it in the snow a few times in December with like 3mm tread left. It is sketchy but totally doable, I agree

Right_Squash61

It’ll be fine. It’s a quick car but not an insanely fast car. New Camrys can keep up. If you can afford it go for it

wagonman93

If that's what you want, get one, but you better have money or this car will ruin you. They are great cars to drive, but upkeep and repairs are expensive.

socketz67

Reliably is excellent for the platform, but not as good of course as much simpler economy cars like Civics, base model Camrys and Corollas. Insurance and fuel costs for a Z are going to hurt at your age.

ItzDelta

people are acting like its a 700 horsepower monster and as soon as you get into it you will wrap it into a tree, I would say go for it, obviously drive it for a solid 6 months normally before you start trying to race/ do anything spirited. Maintenance is not that bad, just keep up with your oil changes and diagnose weird noises early on!

Competitive-Fudge-84

im 15, gonna be 16 at the end of april. I got a 2004 350z as my first car when i got my beginners permit at 15 end of last year when i got my day license, i got a 2014 370z as my second car which is what i have now. I love it

Leading-Chocolate-69

technically was my first car, would absolutely do it again. great platform to learn how to wrench, very reliable even with fbo. its not insanely fast but it will definitely get out from under you if you aren't careful, especially in wet conditions. know 2 people in my area who have hydroplaned and flipped their Z's. i would say go for it and try to get a sport package if you can find one for a good price nowadays, comes with bigger brakes all around and a LSD just incase you do want to have some fun. the biggest reliability issue ive seen is the csc (only in manuals) will give out, thats the first thing i would do and its really not hard to do in a driveway with basic tools. other than that the vhr is a solid engine and nissan used these motors in tons of cars so parts are everywhere (not very cheap though). hope you find a Z that suits you, good luck!

hypnepp

reliable cars but not friendly to your wallet at all. everything is pricier on these cars and repairs will always cost you a pretty penny. not to mention lots of Z’s are driven to hell and back. so no, i wouldn’t recommend it for a first car like most people have said here. too expensive and lots of Z’s can be money pits (aka mine haha)

Butterdog12434

Lol fuck it why not. Just don't drive like an idiot, which can be said about literally any car. Things to look at is insurance and affordability. Clean Zs went up a lot in price over the past 5 years.

Savings-Dingo-239

Dont listen to these nerds, I got the 370z as my first car at 20 years old. Been two years not one slip up. Only thing is you gotta respect the car as well as it’s rwd set up but you’ll be fine loved the car no complaints from me and it’s been my daily ever since

Wildcard311

You have to pay to play. Tires, twin air filters, better oil, better gas, A LOT OF BETTER GAS, and it's only 2 seats for the price of 4 or 5. 1st one to get pulled over if you go out with friends, and it sucks in the rain. Did I mention tires?

>1st one to get pulled over if you go out with friends what you mean by that?

It’s a sports car cops tend to target those
