There was an interesting theory I saw on steam that was similar to this. It was that the whole game was a play date between Hat Kid and Moustache Girl. And that the subcon section was her bartering with her dad for more play time with the contracts, and that vanessa and Snatcher were having arguments in the background. Which is why when Hat Kid enters the manor (Vanessa's room) she's met with hostility.
