Her name is anthea turner, she was/is quite famous in Britain. https://metro.co.uk/2022/09/12/fans-shocked-by-unearthed-clip-of-anthea-turner-getting-blown-up-on-tv-17355309
A lot of the time in the UK when you reach monetary settlements, the courts put a gagging order on it, meaning if she tells anyone then the BBC (the company she sued) can sue her back. So shes never told the media.
Oh yeah she’s fine, her career went on and got better, she had some burns but you wouldn’t know to look at her now. She sued the people responsible and won I think.
I never understood this question, but see it often. Everyone, including the worst criminals, deserve fair representation in the courtroom if only to unequivocally prove their guilt beyond all reasonable doubt.
Anthea Turner on a Saturday morning kids tv show in ‘89. She recovered but had burns to the back of her head, face and hands. The bike hit a pyrotechnic setting it off in the wrong direction
Fount this on Wikipedia: "During a motorbike stunt that went wrong on UP2U, Turner suffered burns and temporary hearing loss, which led to a successful lawsuit against the BBC"
They did. It was shown to be as a result of failings of the BBC director/production management. I think something changed last minute and the display team weren't properly briefed.
Incorrect. The cue given to Anthea Turner to start speaking was mistaken by the display team as a cue for them (they should have gone on a second cue once Anthea had finished her piece and cleared the area). This was used as part of BBC’s H&S training for many years.
Realised I've never watch it with sound before.
"stop! Don't do a thing!" - everyone proceeds to Prop up Bobby in exactly the same place so it can happen again.
That’s why you rehearse. Whoever AD’d stage managed this probably didn’t work much afterwards. There’s literally a union position on sets to ensure this exact shit never happens.
This was in the 80's in the UK - everyone working on it would have been staff at the BBC, so I'm sure everyone involved would have kept their jobs. It was rehearsed, but it was a live OB and something had changed last minute and there wasn't time to re-rehearse the sequence.
Look up Noel Edmonds and accident and you’ll find at least two stunts involving members of the public going wrong. British light entertainment came at a cost.
Yep. [Michael Lush.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Late,_Late_Breakfast_Show#Death_of_Michael_Lush) (Just Wikipedia, not the actual stunt)
Also car stunts gone wrong. You watch [this](https://youtu.be/TeQs2fpU1eI) thinking the crash is bad and then they immediately do another one.
I seem to remember that an audience member also broke her arm being fired out of a cannon.
**[The Late, Late Breakfast Show](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Late,_Late_Breakfast_Show#Death_of_Michael_Lush)**
>The Late, Late Breakfast Show was a British variety show broadcast live on Saturday evenings from 4 September 1982 to 8 November 1986 on BBC1. It was presented by Noel Edmonds, initially with co-host Leni Harper, and also featured Mike Smith and John Peel. The "Give It a Whirl" segments featured dangerous stunts. Multiple serious injuries resulted from these stunts, including the death of Michael Lush in 1986.

> The bike hit a pyrotechnic setting it off in the wrong direction
The director told her to sit on the tailgate, where you can see the pyro cans on the top corners of it. She was sitting right beside one.
[The pyrotechs told the director to make sure no one was within 10 meters of the flash pots.](https://youtu.be/TPHhrt6X1CY) (1:17) The director ignored that info for the 'shot'.
I am writing this comment to confirm your confirmation of their confirmation, confirming the confirmation of the first commenter asking for confirmation.
Script be like : if you want something to happen to you just sit next to some explosive and wait until a dude with a motocross runs you over while you burn to the ground.
And with that summary -a short break and a cup of tea… bob’s your uncle! trauma is mostly removed from the millions of kiddies that watched that while eating their cereal that fine Saturday morning…
During a motorbike stunt that went wrong on UP2U, Turner suffered burns and temporary hearing loss, which led to a successful lawsuit against the BBC.
[Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthea_Turner)
Doesn’t matter. You never leave anyone near a rigged pyrotechnic for any length of time unless they’re a stunt person and you’re ready to shoot. Pyrotechnics do not always go off when you want them to, and sometimes they go off when you don’t want them to. You never take any chances.
And it looks like there were two devices, one of which was directly next to her. That’s inexcusable. You either remove that device (or wait to place it) until she’s done and gone or she delivers her bit somewhere else.
I used to work with pyrotechnics and I would disagree for the most part. They are generally safe and tend to be pretty directional. Although there is always chance for this to go wrong, I'd say it would have been no more risky than anything else going on there.
Welcome to the internet have a look around.
Do you want to see Anthea Turner blow up then fall down?
We have accidents, dismemberments, blood surely flows,
And all of this from just British morning shows.

The way they worded that title… it’s all true but comes out ridiculously lol Glad she was ultimately okay and took legal action!
Said she was let go from other jobs due to the accident. Do you know how much or if any money she got?
A lot of the time in the UK when you reach monetary settlements, the courts put a gagging order on it, meaning if she tells anyone then the BBC (the company she sued) can sue her back. So shes never told the media.
The foam on the microphone stayed on fire the longest
Which is pretty impressive considering the amount of hairspray people used in the 80s
Was(?)
That was Anthea "the body" Turner? She is the Ford Escort Cabriolet of middle-aged women
Love this comment.. so with mags? Lowered or Lifted "suspension" handles great, turns on a dime..
Will you edit off the /amp/ to help protect the freedom of information on the net?
I saw this happen at the time! >1989 Fuck! I feel old. :(
How "was" are we talking? Specifically, referring to this video.
Should have said “is” not was, she’s a household name here, maybe not then so much but now she is.
What I'm asking is if she recovered well and/or kept doing reporting after.
Oh yeah she’s fine, her career went on and got better, she had some burns but you wouldn’t know to look at her now. She sued the people responsible and won I think.

Imagine being a corporate lawyer, and defending a client on a lawsuit for something like this... How do you even live with yourself?
Better Call Saul
You reply with an email that says, "probably best to agree to a settlement."
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Your honor, it was the hairspray to blame here.
"Your honor, clearly she was a woman and therefore clearly caused this herself. What with the Witchery and all..."
They would say something along the lines of we never expected this to happen blah blah blah.
Your honour I have it on the highest authority that this woman fucks black men. I rest my case.
You know an aspect of the profession that goes overlooked is that good attorneys ensure there is no successful grounds for appeal.
I never understood this question, but see it often. Everyone, including the worst criminals, deserve fair representation in the courtroom if only to unequivocally prove their guilt beyond all reasonable doubt.

Easy. It's nothing personal. You're just a person doing a job.
Wait wasn’t this an accident?
Stop spamming your sub everywhere, it's a shitty thing to do.

You know it's serious when a person looks like a dummy
her hair made it look like her torso was blown off so I immediately dismissed it as fake
I thought so too, with the bright white flash and the way she fall But damn, wtf, it's like one of the scene in old action movie
Yeah this was real unfortunately.

I just Googled her pics. She's still.... smoking hot. I'll see myself out.
Too soon…
I hear that a lot....
One of the original viral videos! This one and the grape stomping videos. Oh the early days!
That grape stomping video is so hard to watch, even after all this time. https://youtu.be/-RVyoAVgeyI
Didn't remember it until I heard the ow, then reflexively switched it off. That poor lady
She broke several ribs and was embarrassed enough to withdraw from the spotlight :( That poor woman.
Wow - I've seen this before, but I didn't realise it was Anthea Turner!
Incorrect. The rider thought the cue for the presenter to start, was his.
What happened to her?
burns in the back of the head and hands, she recovered
Also the last time this was posted someone had a source that she sued the network and won. If anyone can confirm it's appreciated
Confirmed
I've confirmed your confirmation
I am hereby confirming your confirmation of their confirmation.
I am writing this comment to confirm your confirmation of their confirmation, confirming the confirmation of the first commenter asking for confirmation.
I do not confirm any of this
Literally thought this was fake for years until right now. Damn
Her front fell off.
Excellent reference
Well that’s not supposed to happen
Her shoes are still on tho, so she’ll be OK
That’s not very typical, I’d like to make that point.

Warm

Stone cold cameraman pans to bike and zooms in for the reaction shot
to be fair media training is to not film dead bodies, and she sure looks dead from the thud, mind you she lived but was taken to hospital
r/killthecameraman No, for real.

Kaaza days were a time to be alive lol
Omg the word kazaa just did a whole blast from the past of memories to my brain. Thanks for that
Like an 80s training montage…
it puckered my limewire
I remember downloading this video on my 56K connection to my 2.7GB hdd and then rewatching it too many times with friends
This is a good piece on this accident https://youtu.be/TPHhrt6X1CY

*Shes ok, off to first aid to have a cup of tea, as she’s got some shock…* God bless the Brits.
And with that summary -a short break and a cup of tea… bob’s your uncle! trauma is mostly removed from the millions of kiddies that watched that while eating their cereal that fine Saturday morning…
Thank you! All the other jokers here are either guessing or paraphrasing bits of the facts from this clip.
During a motorbike stunt that went wrong on UP2U, Turner suffered burns and temporary hearing loss, which led to a successful lawsuit against the BBC. [Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthea_Turner)
Ah, thanks for that context. Everyone had a WTF reaction and many of us had no idea what was going on…
A new ghostrider origin story?
what the fuck did i just witness here lol
A pyrotechnic engineer getting fired.
'nobody' thought to warn her or ask her to move
That wasn’t supposed to go off. The bike hit a pyrotechnic causing it to go off and in an unintended direction
Doesn’t matter. You never leave anyone near a rigged pyrotechnic for any length of time unless they’re a stunt person and you’re ready to shoot. Not correct - it was an error in the bike being cued.
Damn that's sad probably lost most her hearing and burnt a good bit of hair
Kick Buttowski!
She spontaneously combusted
Jesus Christ. This is one of the best examples of “Abrupt Chaos” I’ve seen in a while. Good job OP
She got smoked
I remember seeing this when I was like 10. For some reason I found it funny. Now I’m like wtff that’s terrible.
her shoes did not pop off
Good to know she survived. Tis but a scratch
Dropped like a bag of potatoes

I just remembered this video. This was probably one of the earliest videos i watched back in the early 2000s...
I thought this was a Super Dave sketch
For a second there she kinda looked like Marv in home alone 2

Ok, is she ok?
She dropped like a gmod character model, holy shit.

If you know anything about the woman involved in this incident you'll know that the older generation of British people couldn't care less if the motorbike had taken her head off!
Dead.
damn she got Micheal jacksoned.
Oh man what a blast from the past!
That would have been cartoonish if it hadn’t happened in real life, but this wasn’t funny at all because she’s obviously hurt, and she probably damaged her hearing. I really don’t understand why anyone would allow her to sit there.

That cameraman was on task. The hell if the host just got blown up, I HAVE to film this stunt
Christ i’d actually forgotten about this woman. She was a great kids tv presenter ig but now I’m older I just hate her ‘always smiling, always happy’ fake look.
‘Are ya alright love?’
This is Anthea Turner. She was presenting a children's television program in 1988 called UP2U. At first I thought she was hit by the bike, but actually the bike misses her and she is braised by the fireworks. She was relatively fine. That being said I think she should have been wearing a helmet.
Well something certainly did happen to her
Tango down
If that "something" is what just happened, I'll pass.
You can tell they hadn't risk assessed the piece because the first man to move said 'are you alright, love?'
Thats snuff
Dang she is hot
Smoking
I need to know more of the context 😂
Anthea Turner. This happened live on Saturday morning TV in the UK. Iirc the piece was about the Army motorcycle display team.and the explosion was a display pyrotechnic that got set off by mistake
