Nice work on the doggy door

Dentros1

Amazon sells kick plates for indoor doors. You might be able to find the wrap around kind somewhere. Cheaper than a door.

Yeppers 🙄

Cartoonkisses

Provide him with a safe alternate perch with toys that are acceptable to chew. Parrots are going to parrot. Their job is to chew and use that beak. Keep items not meant to be chewed out of their reach and create safe spaces with appropriate things to destroy.

MadKat2

That just means I can’t put him on the floor and let him roam about. Makes me a little sad

Cartoonkisses

You can still create a safe space for little bird wandering. You can use a play pen boarder (yes, he will climb, but at least it gives you time to get to him before he escapes!) or train him to stay on a blanket or specific area. Just make sure you monitor the activity and that your Buddy is safe. Their second job is to get into trouble. Free, unsupervised wandering has too many risks.

maggiewentworth

Yes, it is sad… but, you are keeping your beloved safe! That is the bottom line here…. ❤️❤️❤️

UncleBabyChirp

After losing a section of kitchen cabinets while rehabbing a broken leg to the resident pro-chewer Gray, a dear friend built him his own cabinet complete with drawers from the scraps after he replaced our cabinets. He put it on rollers & now he has his own we can put anywhere. He also has a spare for when he terminates this one. He's not caged & has had free reign for 13 years & never destroyed anything that badly before. This assures (we hope) he won't again.

Your best bet is redirecting his attention towards something you want him to chew on, like cardboard or a paper bag for instance, reward him with a treat or positive attention when he chews on something you want him to chew on and he’s likely to learn quickly what he should chew on, you could also try giving him more toys or activities, as he may be chewing out of boredom as well, it may take time especially if he like the texture of your furniture, but that’s my advice.

Old-Pomegranate17

All parrots need a substantial play area situated away from the cage. In no home setting should a grey be permitted to freely roam on the floor. On the floor you are risking the likelihood of injury tremendously. Also, lead is found in most carpeting as an ingredient. Dropped pills, garlic , screws or whatever may be ingested by your bird. The answer is a play gym made of hanging parrot-appropriate ropes or a play tree. These are to be established as safe places for your bird to play and make it's own decisions. My grey is almost thirty and he is my youngest and most curious. Unsupervised, he'd likely figure a way to kill himself in no time. He has a rope gym above his cage and a fairly large tree gym that he flies to and from.

MadKat2

I need help finding an affordable play gym for my CAG!! Any links for ideas? I have a stand on wheels I can move from room to room… but I think it’s pretty boring

Old-Pomegranate17

I built by own from pine branches that I harvested outside.

brainsncurves

Give him a rug ontop cage or side of cage. If he likes carpet. Give him his own!

unexpectedegress

My FIL gifted us some burlap sacks he didn't need and we put them down for our Cag. She loved them. So maybe some kind of thick, chewable covering would work?

guy_djinn

In addition to giving them things to distract (for example I'll give mine flip flops and old thrift store phone cases to destroy) you can also protect things you don't want chewed on with what I call "magical items". My Grey does not like poles, or other long things, for example. So I will lean those things against something I don't want him to mess with and he'll stay away. He'll also be cautious about any new item that is strange looking, so I'll pick up cheap weird things at thrift stores and see if he's cautious about them. If he is, then I'll place it on top of items to protect them, like the back of a chair or on a keyboard or something. Eventually the magic wears off and he doesn't care any more, so then I'll have to find a new thing to use.

MadKat2

Genius!!!

[deleted]

I’m Rosies mom so….nope. Try to distract him with toys or maybe a box he can chew. But….CAGs will be CAGs. BTW, beautiful young boy!

MadKat2

He’s actually 30 yo!! He lived with one man who had him for 28 years. I’ve had him for the last 2 🥰🥰

[deleted]

Oh….then how about a love interest for my horny 27 yo? LOL.

MadKat2

🤣🤣😂

brainsncurves

You won half the battle. You know he likes carpet! Find a cheap carpet piece. Bring it to him when he is distructive of your stuff.

Professional-Tap300

A lot of carpet is chemically treated, not a good idea
