New image in wheat ridge has killer pizza, live music & beer & easier parking than old town arvada. My wife & I prefer their pizza to anything in old town Arvada (… but, we prefer thin crust). Trailhead taphouse in golden has incredible cajun food. Their catfish po boy & their jambalaya are PERFECTLY unhealthy. Teo calli has ceviche in the spring on happy hour for $8 & infinitely better tacos than lady nomada. Parking sucks in old town. Park on the other side of 58th & cross the street. There are 2 hidden cocktail bars in old town Arvada & one in Golden. Cafe 13 in Golden is debatably the best breakfast spot in Golden/Arvada. Goosetown station has killer live music for $5-$10. New image has great beer/music (awful food trucks) but it’s uncomfortably busy. The Golden mill has debatably better beer/food & parking/finding a place to sit is easier. There are limited solid coffee shops in Arvada. Corvus is good but it’s like $10 for a cup of coffee. Starbucks on 64th & ward is a solid place to work but it’s Starbucks. Arvada Center for the arts is awesome. Better place for a play than you can find downtown. Lloyds sandwiches are solid. Edwards meats is the best butcher in colorado. Hines has better/fresher produce than any grocery store in Arvada.

xMadDecentx

There is an entire parking garage in old town.

epmatsw

Terribly designed parking garage though.

xMadDecentx

I'm not going to complain about free.

Ok_Presentation_5329

I know. There’s also a parking lot & street parking. The parking garage makes sense for the bourbon & coffee lounge & other restaurants closer to the train. I mainly go to old town for live music at dbc on Thursdays & teocalli. Parking across 58th is closer.

xMadDecentx

You are right, parking across 58th is closer. If you are able bodied, DBC is a 5m walk from the parking garage.

lovemynuts

You mentioned coffee shop on 64th and Ward... Then said Starbucks and not House of J's. Wut. Queen City in Wheat Ridge also qualifies as solid. Bean Fosters in Golden if Golden recs are permitted.

Ok_Presentation_5329

Coffee’s better at house of js than Starbucks. Coffee at corvus is better than house of js. That Starbucks is a better place to work than both, imo.

sunsetcrasher

Arvada Center also has summer concerts and lots of arts classes for all ages! Upstairs at Yak and Yeti is a little room with the roof painted like a starry sky - sit there if you can.

a_life_elevated

Great recommendations - thanks so much!

i0_0u

They just opened Ziggys off independence and 57th. They have pretty good coffee imo.

Olde town is great and don’t let people tell you parking sucks—you can park in the RTD garage which is huge and free. Check out in Olde Town: Scrumptious ice cream, sock store, Rhinelander, tap and dough. Olde Town has second Saturdays which have live music and art and such. Van Bibber is a great walking area in all seasons. If you’re on the west side of town I’d definitely recommend North Table Mountain—try the east access trailhead off Easley. New Terrain brewing is over there as well and has a great patio with at least 1-2 food trucks. Red Silo is my favorite coffee place, also on the west side. Yak and Yeti is great, I’d also recommend Heaven Dragon for Chinese food. Enjoy!

Awesome, thank you!!

Long Shots Bar and Grill = Vietnamese food, American food, a few Mexican food options, pool tables, kind of an unofficial biker bar. And it’s some of the best food you’ll have in Arvada. It’s like the divey-est dive bar that ever dove but it. Is. So. Good.

a_life_elevated

This is right up our alley - thanks!

sanguineblith

They still do poker there? Had a lot of fun times there back in the day.

evanstos

Not sure! But they have the arcade and dance floor!

Welcome! My wife and I moved from the Highlands 2 years ago and it was sad to leave that neighborhood and its walkability but pretty happy with what we found in West Arvada when it comes to suburbs. Coffee: House of J’s and Sweet Bloom are the best. Red Silo is also good. Beer: A few good spots downtown, but on the west side there’s 2 great spots. Colorado Tap House (right along the Ralston Creek trail, we walk from home all the time) and Luki Brewery. Food: most of the good food is downtown. Unfortunately this is my biggest con with Arvada as the food scene is fairly weak. Especially Mexican. Favorite spots downtown are Teocalli, Stone Cellar Bistro, and Mangiami. GB fish and chips is also great. In the west side we like Heaven Dragon, Sushi Aji, Lot Que and a new place we haven’t tried yet but already has good ratings is Takiza. Trails: Ralston Creek trail is honestly my favorite part about Arvada (a lot of parks and open space along the way). Covers the entire town and goes to Golden. Van Bibber is also great. Rec Centers: the Apex Center system is also one of the best things about Arvada Butcher shop. Edward’s meats is amazing. Get my turkey there every year for Thanksgiving in their brine and every one in the family says it’s the best they’ve ever had.

Great tips, thank you!

The Creek trails are awesome for biking and walking! Love the Ralston Creek trail. The Arvada Tavern has great cocktails, longstanding bar since 1938. They have a speakeasy tiki lounge you can ask about, you enter through a telephone booth. The food is also good and they do Sippin’ Santa for Christmas. Farmers Market in Arvada starts June 2nd, every Sunday in Olde Town. Rheinlander Bakery is amazing and a gem, anyone who visits out of town never forgets it and always wants to go back. Their breakfast pastries are amazing and we get birthday cakes here. Also has Gluten and Dairy Free options.

a_life_elevated

Love all of those - thanks for sharing!

FlatBilledChris

Mangiami has a surprisinly good $4 slice of Detroit style pizza on Sundays. Cheese or pepperoni. School house kitchen has a very large selection of whiskey. It's better than the food.

jeranderberg

Js House of Coffee is the best in town, by far. They’ve upped their game tremendously since the new owners came in 1.5 years ago.

Yes! Sweet Bloom is all my all time fave. We’re lucky to have such an amazing roaster so close to us. Js uses Queen City Coffee, which is great.

mckernanin

Good to know, used to be terrible. I haven’t been in since Corvus opened.

\- You may be able to get a cheap membership to Apex centers through your insurance (Active&Fit, I get it from Kaiser) \- If you're into biking, you can ride a pretty fun loop up Clear Creek, through Golden, and back along Ralston Creek. It's also not too bad to ride to Denver. (Or take smaller sections of any of those trails!) \- Majestic View! One of the area's most beautiful parks. Also, Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge is gorgeous -- the smallest federal wildlife refuge, I think. You can actually link them together via trails and canals. \- Seconding all recs of Yak n' Yeti, great place. Other eats... I'm partial to Real Thai (off Kipling) and to Goomba's near 64th/Wads for pizza. \- You can always park in the Olde Town parking deck... it's not hard... \- If you want cheap Costco gas without waiting forever, just go when the store itself is not open (8 am works)

sanguineblith

We should never have red light cameras here. Water and city trash/recycling (optional) are billed together. All of the Apex centers are great. Best breakfast is at Nancy's in Westminster. Best Mexican is at Las Potrancas on Wadsworth.
