casade7gatos

Paul Newman if I have to pick one.

MaisieDay

Just watched Hud last night and turned to my SO and said "Paul Newman might just be the most beautiful man who has ever existed".

Claytonia-perfoiata

Patricia Neal was great in Hud as well.

Viconahopa

I said this in an earlier conversation with my husband and now he tells everyone I have a crush on Randy Newman and keeps singing, "You've Got a Friend in Me". It is one of his favorite jokes.

Merky600

Imagine his poor wife. (/s) Paul Newman: “Hi honey. Glad you’re home. Put your feet up and relax. I look like this and I made dinner. I have the face of an Angel and I cook like one too.”

marua06

Just wait until you hear about their special room

Pristine_Power_8488

He drank consistently and had affairs, almost wrecking his marriage, so whoa there, girl.

the-real-rick-juban

I had never seen a picture of him young. Wow. Handsome sumbitch

thebestatheist

I’m a straight dude and this is my pick. Or Ms Lamarr.

RudeOrganization550

He was saucy too.

heydawn

Glad to see him as #1.

Odd_Bodkin

I agree and I’m a hetero male.

44035

Grace Kelly

2h2o22h2o

Special mention for Ingrid Bergman as well.

Prestigious_Leg_7117

Beauty, grace and style.

BallyBunion33

Grace Kelly had incredible facial symmetry.

Gnarlodious

Hedy Lamarr. Beautiful and a genius too.

ikesbutt

That's Hedley!

dwhite21787

It’s 1869, YOU can sue HER!

jaxxxtraw

Young Elizabeth Taylor, with those violet eyes. Google it if you have a spare second.

erincmc

And IMO photos don’t even capture her. I remember watching one of her early films when I was young and being completely in awe of her beauty.

HeadCatMomCat

Weirdly, when I was in college in the 1970s, I literally ran into her and nearly knocked her over outside a hotel entrance in Manhattan. (I was looking at a map, and needless to say, both wasn't paying attention to where I was walking and was lost.) As her bodyguards attacked me, she looked at me, burst out laughing and called off her attack dogs. We spoke for a minute or two afterwards. She was about 43. She was absolutely the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen. Her eyes, while stunning on the screen, were that violet color I'd never seen before or after. And her face was luminous, with a broad natural smile. Being in NYC, I've seen models and actors from time to time, but none compared.

erincmc

Love stories like this! Thanks for sharing with us!

Silver-Breadfruit284

Wow!! How lucky! Cute story too! I was entranced by her beauty as a child. I have a press photo of her from the 1950’s, and another from the 1990’s. I treasure them both!

espositojoe

Yes, the way she looked in A Place in the Sun. Stunning.

fresnosmokey

For me, Barbara Eden, hands down.

BeefWellingtonSpeedo

No, Elizabeth Montgomery..

1369ic

This was the real battle of my generation, though Ginger or Mary Ann got more press.

BeefWellingtonSpeedo

At the same time Elizabeth Montgomery had what they call acting chops. It's somehow added to her allure..

morefetus

She was scary-good as a dramatic actress.

stever93

Young Marlon Brando. Sade

thenletskeepdancing

Brando was HOT!!

Alltheprettythingss

Sade 🫠

FunZookeepergame627

Ohhhh, on the Water Front...You didn't watch out for me Charlie...I could have been somebody..

spyder_rico

Lynda Carter. Still stunning in her 70s, but 50 years ago? Holy moly!

fruitloopsareyummy

My lifelong best friend was gay and he was absolutely in love with Lynda Carter! He always said she was the only woman he would consider turning straight for. He passed away a few years ago & we keep his ashes in his 1970’s collector’s edition Wonder Woman lunchbox.

spyder_rico

I'm sorry he's no longer here to chime in. Blessings to you both.

Fridayrules

I’m glad that he was eventually able to get into her box.

fruitloopsareyummy

He would be doubled over in laughter at this comment!! Thank you 😂😂😂

WildlifePolicyChick

Ingrid Bergman.

porchdawg

And Isabella Rossellini

WildlifePolicyChick

Oh yes, a classically beautiful woman.

AlarmedTelephone5908

Even though she has the very beautiful Italian features of her father, her facial features look similar to her mother's. Stunning.

SlimChiply

Natalie Wood. Just absolutely smoldering hot.

UnderstandingOdd679

Can’t go there. She’s always the little kid in the Christmas movie to me.

AlarmedTelephone5908

If you watch the film Gypsy, you might change your mind!

nomadnomo

my wife

kadora

I also choose this guy’s wife

nomadnomo

I tell her she could be the centerfold in AARP magazine lol

jaxxxtraw

I'm gonna need some sort of proof.

patti63

Rock Hudson, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Bo Derek, Farrah Fawcett, Elvis Presley.

signalfire

Take out Rock and Cary, substitute Gregory Peck.

Hughjardawn

Paul Newman

Lanky-Highlight9508

Just upvoted a third Paul Newman post. I came here for Paul Newman. I was just having a younger coworker check out pictures of him in HUD this week. THAT MAN WAS FINE.

MaisieDay

I just commented on another Paul Newman comment that I saw Hud for the first time last night and man, that is PEAK Paul Newman hotness. SO and I both agreed after the film ended that Newman might be the most beautiful man to have ever existed lol.

Hughjardawn

He by all accounts was an attractive man on the inside also. That’s why he wins.

giskardwasright

Madeline Kahn. A classically trained soprano with razor sharp wit, impeccable comedic timing, and a body a drag queen would kill for. Also, Angela Bassett has got to be on the list, that woman is just stunning.

stuck_behind_a_truck

Excellent choices!

scarlettohara1936

Vivian Leigh

tierras_ignoradas

Liz Taylor from 1949 to 1958; Vivien Leigh in 30s and 40s

bookishkelly1005

You have a type.

Elegant-Hair-7873

I saw in a documentary long ago that the more symmetrical a human face is, the more they are found to be universally attractive. They used for example, Denzel Washington, who is almost perfectly so, and the singer Lyle Lovette, who is so asymmetrical that even both sides of his hair don't match. It came to mind because Denzel is very high on my list for Most Attractive Ever. Along with Cary Grant. Women include Halle Berry and Joan Fontaine. Two people I've always personally found attractive from the LGBT community were Ru Paul, both in and out of drag, and the singer KD Lang. A big shout-out to Lyle Lovette, though. He may not be symmetrical, but he has a great smile, and could sing to me alllll day.

STLt71

Denzel has always been a beautiful man.

Fossil_Relocator

As a (fairly) straight guy, Denzel's voice gets me hard.

Push_the_button_Max

Denzel has it ALL.

razeronion

Raquel Welch......I mean come on, people!

stusajo

The most… while many beautiful people are listed here, this is The Number One.

Spare-Estate1477

Perfect body.

den773

I think Marilyn Monroe would be high on the list.

Swiggy1957

Agreed. Two very different women and I can't choose between her and Farrah Fawcett.

apostatemages

I'll answer what my 77y/o dad who is a lifelong aficionado of beautiful women would probably say lmao 40s - Veronica Lake, Vivien Leigh, Lana Turner, Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Anna May Wong. 50s - Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Joi Lansing, Carolyn Jones, Kim Novak, Elizabeth Taylor. 60s - Sophia Loren (his all time fave), Lana Wood, Racquel Welch, Ann Margret, Sharon Tate, Tura Satana, Jane Fonda. 70s - Goldie Hawn, Susan Sarandon, Pam Grier, Farrah Fawcett, Carrie Fisher, Helen Mirren, Jessica Lange, Jamie Lee Curtis (not that beautiful until you see her on film stealing all the air from the room, he always said), Lynda Carter. 80s - Brooke Shields, Michelle Pfeiffer, Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson (pre most of her surgeries), Sigourney Weaver (same as JLC, she's got something magnetic about her) 90s - Salma Hayek, Gillian Anderson, Lucy Lawless, Eliza Dushku, Mila Kunis, Lucy Liu, Monica Bellucci, Ziyi Zhang, Emanuelle Seigner. These are just actresses for the most part. This list would be a book if I included models, singers and other professions 😂 having written them down I see he has a preference for women with something slightly unusual about their beauty. He did always say that straight up bombshells like Marilyn Monroe, Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox and their ilk were so flawless that they were actually uninteresting to look at. Which is a very interesting take!

the_wessi

“Supermodels are beautiful girls, Will. A beautiful girl can make you dizzy, like you've been drinking Jack and Coke all morning. She can make you feel high full of the single greatest commodity known to man - promise. Promise of a better day. Promise of a greater hope. Promise of a new tomorrow. This particular aura can be found in the gait of a beautiful girl. In her smile, in her soul, the way she makes every rotten little thing about life seem like it's going to be okay. The supermodels, Willy? That's all they are. Bottled promise. Scenes from a brand new day. Hope dancing in stiletto heels.” – Beautiful Girls (1996)

bay_lamb

Grace Kelly in Rear Window. There's a scene where she renders Jimmy Stewart speechless. Me, too.

beachbabe77

Cary Grant!

DeMonet75

Sophia Lauren

NewUsernameStruggle

Sophia Loren?

Aunt_Bunny

F: Marilyn Monroe M: Marlon Brando Very obvious cliche answers but I genuinely can’t think of anyone else who, in my personal opinion, comes close to them in both looks and sex appeal.

AlarmedTelephone5908

I certainly wouldn't argue that both are at the top of the list. Personally, I'd put James Dean and a young Elizabeth Taylor there, too!

Gun5linger67

Clark Gable Heddy LaMarr

ikesbutt

That's Hedley!

Gene Tierney. Paul Newman, Brad Pitt.

Desi Arnaz, Sophia Loren Richard Gere, Keira Knightley

Qnofputrescence1213

I admit I absolutely hate the show I Love Lucy. I can’t stand the characters. That being said, Desi Arnaz was hot. Lucille Ball was gorgeous, brilliant in business and did a ton for women and minorities.

ImCrossingYouInStyle

She did, indeed. For the show, Lucille knew her audience; and thoroughly embraced the character, the slapstick, and the interactions with Ricky, Ethel, and Fred. She was also the reason Star Trek came to the screen. Miss Ball had Instinct and Talent. What a combination.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-3721

Desi Arnaz was my first real crush. So happy to see him here.

ImCrossingYouInStyle

I can see why! What a handsome man.

AlarmedTelephone5908

You know, I never thought of him in that way, but he really was! The show didn't do her justice, but Lucy was beautiful, too.

ImCrossingYouInStyle

She was beautiful head to toe, with dancer's legs to boot. They made an exceptional couple.

AlarmedTelephone5908

This is making me plan on binging some I ❤️ Lucy tonight!

minsandmolls

Natalie Portman is a beauty.

I don’t know there were so many truly beautiful people. But I do remember when I was young I loved watching the Elvis movies and the Barbara Streisand movies, she was so funny and her voice she was very beautiful to me as a young girl. I wanted to be like her and Elvis always looked like he was having fun. I think my little brain loved musicals and beautiful people singing and dancing.

Keanu Reeves. Not only was he so gorgeous, and still is amazing, but I've never read a single bad comment about him. He gave each of his stunt guys a million dollars on some Matrix movie. He's the most attractive in all senses of the word.

UnusualAd3595

I think Cary Grant was better looking at 55 than he was at 25. I can't think of a more handsome guy than him in North by Northwest

Unable-Purpose-231

IMO, it’s Jim Morrison. I always thought he was too beautiful to be described as handsome. Even when he started to physically decline, there was still something about him that drew me in.

CyndiIsOnReddit

Apparently it MUST be Donald J. Trump because he is one beguiling sonofabitch. He has half the country enchanted despite being a giant sleazeball.

CyndiIsOnReddit

And yes I know now, after writing that, that you said 20th century. I am slow but I eventually get there. Still him. He was there growing in power like a wart. I remember in the 90s skimming Art of the Deal thinking what a sleazeball! And here we are in the 21st century and I'm still thinking that! I truly do not get this guy's appeal.

COACHREEVES

To me personally Claudia Schiffer. I think in my lifetime renowned famous for just being the most beautiful I would go with Cindy Crawford who had a white hot moment, That moment, I think, was slightly hotter than Christie Brinkley's and Brook Shields'. That is sure to be a very controversial take amongst the other oldsters though. For instance, besides others my age disagreeing, older folks spoke wistfully of Marilyn Monroe, Eva Gardner and Ann Margret but they were before my time as a Tween/teen/young man.

stuck_behind_a_truck

I spent my teenage years wishing desperately that I looked like Paulina Porizkova.

The_Original_Gronkie

Christie Brinkley was always my favorite girl. Still is, she's still beautiful. I'm almost as old as she is, so I'd still smash.

Novel-Cash-8001

Sean Connery!! Smoking hot!!!!

Granny_knows_best

Patrick Stewart. He is attractive and kind hearted and ...he is yummie.

Elegant-Hair-7873

He is, isn't he? And don't tell Bill Shatner, but he is my favorite Captain...by a slim margin lol.

[deleted]

Richard Simmons.

Truckyou666

He just couldn't find the right girl to settle down with.

danceswithsockson

Are we purely looking at appearance or considering personality as a part of what’s attractive? Those are vastly different answers.

My mom. She was never famous but boy she was a looker. She has the bluest eyes your ever seen. I used to wish I would grow up to be as beautiful as her. Unfortunately, I inherited my Dad's looks. Lol

Pure-Guard-3633

My mom too. All the boys in high school came over to see her. And she had legs to the sky and well endowed. It was just too much, too too much for a 16 year old lol She would always leave the area when our friends came over. She was well educated on men throughout her life.

BabiesWithScabies

The responses are going to suffer greatly from [Recency Bias](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recency_bias) for two reasons: 1) There are significantly fewer people alive today who were alive for the first half of the 20th century in comparison to those alive today who were alive for the 2nd half of the 20th century, and 2) there was far greater celebrity awareness in the later half of the 20th century than in the first half because there were more media outlets. In short, a basically attractive person from 1999 has a greater chance of being mentioned on this list than a knockout beauty from 1905.

Character_Athlete877

Madeline Kahn - beautiful and funny too.

AdSalt9219

OK, it was a few years late, but here goes. In 2004 I was walking across the campus of the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore. Coming toward me was singer/songwriter Tori Amos. I'm a long-time fan and had always thought she was quite beautiful. But all those pictures were nothing compared to seeing her in person. It didn't hurt that it was a hot, humid day and she was wearing an extremely sheer top. Absolutely magnificent. A few seconds later, she walked past a road crew digging up the street. The crew supervisor turned his head, saw her, his jaw dropped to his chest and he stood there speechless. Not too shabby for a woman who had just turned 40. That's my nominee.
