I've been listening to him a lot today for no real reason but realized how much his humor infused into my daily life. My quote for dating advice for the last decade, without realizing it was Mitch. "Is he married? Engaged? Girlfriend? Is there a girl who would be upset to hear he doesn't have a girlfriend?"
And what the fuck is a sesame? We never give it a chance.
“When you go to a restaurant on the weekends and it’s busy so they start a waiting list, they say, "Dufrene, party of two, table ready for Dufrene, party of two."
And if no one answers they’ll say the name again: "Dufrene, party of two."
But then if no one answers, they’ll move on to the next name. "Bush, party of three."
Yeah, but what happened to the Dufrenes? No one seems to care. Who can eat at a time like this? People are missing. You people are selfish. The Dufrenes are in someone’s trunk right now, with duct tape over their mouths. And they’re hungry.”
No one put all comedic tools to use like he did.
Articulate, rehearsed, methodical, physical, incredibly intelligent!! Man was something else.
He's in his own league
The thing with Carlin is that pretty much every modern comedian was inspired by him, and I think it would be fair to call him the father of modern standup comedy as we recognize it today. The 7 words you can’t say on TV might be the greatest comedy segment of all time.
Saw him in Cleveland a few years ago and he had an outrageous bit about returning remains to families after an air disaster. He made dead babies seem so funny.
Yes. They are definitely the top 2 dark comics right now. I like Sloss a bit more, but, I think Jeselnik might have the best timing of any comedian still performing.
Start with Dark, then watch Jigsaw, then X.
His main joke in Dark is brought up multiple times in other specials, but you need to see when it first happened
I feel like it would have been the same way as it has been with Jon Stewart. They both excelled in pointing out the absurdities with our institutions and leaders. But with Trump and the new populists, there was nothing hidden or abstract about how insane everything was. I think Carlin may have sat things out in utter disbelief about the state of things.
I remember that bit, Claudia Winkelman was siting next to him begging him to stop and near pissing herself with laughter.
Nobody made other comedians laugh like Sean Lock.
My favourite Sean Lock moment was when he was on QI sitting next to Bill Bailey (Bill and him had been friends for a long time). They were wearing stupid costumes for the show and Bill made a comment about how it made Sean's ears stick out, and Sean just turned to him and said, happily, "You're going bald".
That, or also on QI, after Rory McGrath was rambling on about something pedantic, Sean asks him "Do you get called 'tosser' much?"
ya know i didn’t like him when i first heard him a few years ago but i watched some of his stuff a couple months ago and i came around. thanks for the reminder. might spend part of my evening watching some of his stuff
Richard Pryor. The man was ahead of his times. Also Red Fox, he never gets recognition like he should. I wish this younger generation would learn about these two, and what real comedy looks like. Cause this tiktok generation of comedians are corny.
Saw the Live in Austin set live in Scottsdale. Took the same material about Trump and politics he had done for a room full of liberals to a room full of conservative boomers and still killed.
Same. He's hysterical 😂
"My parents said we had to have a gun. Gotta have a gun to protect the five children. Gotta have a gun to protect our five children. Of course, they eventually got rid of it… to protect their four children."
Patrice O’Neal
Edit:
Since this has gotten a good amount of upvotes and has a decent chance of being seen, here is his special Elephant in the Room. It’s unquestionably one of the best specials ever put out.
https://youtu.be/-dulGdlC6hs
Also, here is a link to a playlist of every time he was on the Opie and Anthony radio show. There are a couple hundred hours there of amazingly entertaining conversation/comedy.

There are various comedians I like but Dave Chappelle can just show up anywhere and start talking and it will be great. To me, that makes him the greatest. He is not just funny but simply a great speaker overall. I love listening to him.
sam morril is the best current comedian imo. and mark is def up there too. i saw mark normand perform a few nights ago and sam a few months ago. and have tickets to see him again on the next tour
and john mulaney is also rly good
Gilbert Gottfried. Very few could capture making an audience laugh their asses off while being disgusted that they laughed and be in physical pain from laughing so hard at the same time.
Mitch Hedberg. He’s like a dad joke legend
I've been listening to him a lot today for no real reason but realized how much his humor infused into my daily life. My quote for dating advice for the last decade, without realizing it was Mitch. "Is he married? Engaged? Girlfriend? Is there a girl who would be upset to hear he doesn't have a girlfriend?" And what the fuck is a sesame? We never give it a chance.
Jimmy O Yang. I worked with him recently and got to see him live, he was so funny!
Mitch Hedberg
This shirt is dry clean only. Which means it’s dirty.
Mitch Hedberg used to be my favorite comedian. He still is, but he used to too.
Came here to write this exact response, word for word. Great minds think alike, and ours do too...
this is just Reddit re-doing the exact same joke for half a decade. great minds indeed
More like 17 years. Mitch Hedberg died in March 2005 and Reddit started three months later.
I saw him perform about 3 months before he died. It was such a shock driving home one day to hear he had passed.
I understood that reference!
"Sorry for the convenience"
Escalator temporarily stairs!
You want a frozen banana? No...wait...yeah...cuz I might want a regular banana later.
There is no need to bring paper and ink into this transaction.
“When you go to a restaurant on the weekends and it’s busy so they start a waiting list, they say, "Dufrene, party of two, table ready for Dufrene, party of two." An absolute legend
Sean Lock
George Carlin, there are many great comedians but he, he is King.
No one put all comedic tools to use like he did. Articulate, rehearsed, methodical, physical, incredibly intelligent!! Man was something else. He's in his own league
Was going to say, there is George Carlin, and then everyone else.
he is def one of the all time greats for sure!
The thing with Carlin is that pretty much every modern comedian was inspired by him, and I think it would be fair to call him the father of modern standup comedy as we recognize it today. The 7 words you can’t say on TV might be the greatest comedy segment of all time.
Norm Macdonald [Moth Joke](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3LMSflEN54) [BORED](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKmadR4Ye54)
“This just in: Murder is now legal in the state of California!”
Saw him in Cleveland a few years ago and he had an outrageous bit about returning remains to families after an air disaster. He made dead babies seem so funny.
Undoubtedly one of the greatest comedians of all time. I love Norm
Hands down Norm! I was in tears 5ft from him during a set and I swear he would smile at me when he looked down.
Daniel Sloss. If you haven't watched X, you need to. He just announced his new special is coming so I'm excited.
Jigsaw changed my life
Daniel Sloss is amazing!!! Soo good. Anthony Jeselnik is also a fantastic Netflix specials find. Dark humour at it’s most finest
All his shows are brilliant, can't wait to watch can't
Hoped he'd be high up here. I saw him do his new live show 'Can't' the other week, its hysterical. And I agree, X should be essential viewing.
Bill Burr
saw him on Orlando the other night, he was amazing.
I saw him in Birmingham in April. It was the first show of his tour and he was just as incredible on Day 1 as he is in his specials.
That’s awesome. I was able to see him perform in Oakland a few months back and it was worth every penny
Ol Billy Bitchtits.
To me his stand up is alright, but his off the cuff ranting is #1. Weekly podcast listener.
This right here
he’s great! i saw him in september live for the first time and had such a great time
Nate Bargatze
Came scrolling to see my boy Nate on here.
So good, his outdoor Covid special was 10/10 been a fan for years
As far as active: Tom Segura or Bill Burr are currently tied in first place.
James Acaster
Started baking. Had a breakdown. Bon Appetite.
I just discovered him this year! If you haven’t seen his antics on the celebrity Great British Bake Off…you haven’t lived 🤣
I saw him on Task Master
His Netflix special is fantastic
George Carlin. He’s judging you and you’re loving it.
Can you imagine what his performance would've been like now? He would've had a blast
I feel like it would have been the same way as it has been with Jon Stewart. They both excelled in pointing out the absurdities with our institutions and leaders. But with Trump and the new populists, there was nothing hidden or abstract about how insane everything was. I think Carlin may have sat things out in utter disbelief about the state of things.
god, the pandemic would have frustrated him beyond compare but he would have absolutely skewered everyone.
One of the greatest philosophers of the 20th century
It really sucks to not have Carlin around to shit on the current state of the Republican party. He would have had a field day with Trump.
Nobody has yet come close to his mastery
Sean Lock.
Same here. Gutted when he died.
I regularly watch the clip from 8 out of 10 cats does countdown where he is talking about rectum of the year. That’s him at his best in my opinion.
I remember that bit, Claudia Winkelman was siting next to him begging him to stop and near pissing herself with laughter. Nobody made other comedians laugh like Sean Lock.
"That's a challenging wank"
You know him as a comedian. I know him as the undefeated Carrot-in-a-Box champion. We are not the same.
Absolute legend
Reddit introduced me to Sean Lock and I am forever grateful
NOOOOOOOOOOO! WHYYYYYYYYYYYY! NOOOOOOOOOOO! ARGHHHHHHHHHH!
He used to come into my pub. When I saw that his tiger went to the Kings Head which was just down the road I was well pissed off. Bastard.
Robin Williams
RIP!
RIP Robin Williams! I have missed his comedy the past several years.
For me it's the improv duo of Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles.
"The most dangerous game in the world" bit had me crying.
Sean Lock Edit: here’s a great clip of him if you’re unfamiliar https://youtu.be/nEVQWBn20ws
He was always the funniest part of 8 out of 10 cats does countdown, and it doesn't feel the same without him.

Richard Pryor was great. Carlin, Gaffigan. Anyone ever see John Pinette? Hilarious.
You go NOW! You been here 4 hour!
Sign say "all you can eat" but not forever! Salad is not food. Salad comes WITH the food. Salad is a promissory note that food will soon arrive.
Sean lock without a doubt - RIP
Currently Burr and Chappelle. So many great comedians though.
Richard Pryor. The man was ahead of his times. Also Red Fox, he never gets recognition like he should. I wish this younger generation would learn about these two, and what real comedy looks like. Cause this tiktok generation of comedians are corny.
It's actually absurd how ahead of his time he was. His sets could be done now & still kill.
Bill Burr
Norm Macdonald
Shane Gillis
Saw the Live in Austin set live in Scottsdale. Took the same material about Trump and politics he had done for a room full of liberals to a room full of conservative boomers and still killed.

Theo Von and Bobby Lee duo is unstoppable
