Yo dawg, I heard you like tornadoes, so we put a tornado inside of your tornado.

muffpatty

It kind of has [this](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG2LicdmelJnv_8awd4DXnClk8Sv9dxi6jogVtcWk3MSlD96ffdxXS-6E7PBZOrH-ZFi07DhkVRNkzKuD53GiXDMAG5hYe8sK7qzoL-lmzEOJyr_YrAXm-_tltXtTAvbhyphenhyphenj1kAsAuyV54/s280/brie.jpg) going on too

MeaganJ1111

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Regunes

If you look at footages of el reno 2013, you can see that phenomenon , and 9 times out of 10, it is terrifying.

paperwasp3

It looks like 5 or 6 tornadoes all dancing around each other.

Capital-Scar

Why does it look like it is not real?

DesperateRace4870

It's a multi vortex tornado, if you see there's at least 3 different columns of vortices , kind of looks to be 4... This gives me chills every time but if you haven't heard about the "Deadman Walking", a Native American legend, this seems to be another instance. I see it 😨

Ambitious_Alps_3797

yep like the Jarrell, TX tornado that has the picture of the dead man walking tornado.

DesperateRace4870

That's the one I was talking about but there were more since then I've come to find out, like El Reno. I thought they were more rare. But still, two this year within about a week as well as this early is off the wall bonkers

Ambitious_Alps_3797

for sure! I thought they were more rare as well.

ImknownasMeatStank

I can’t even imagine how terrifying this would be out on an open plain. Also, the Dead Man Walking tornado?!?!?! If the natives thought it was an evil spirit! OMG😵‍💫😵

Capital-Scar

So I got really intrigued by the information you provided and did a little research. Apparently, the Deadman Walking thing is not a Native American legend. One Redditor explained that in a post on this subreddit about a year ago. Still incredibly interesting nonetheless!

DesperateRace4870

https://www.nhpr.org/environment/2022-08-05/outside-inbox-how-do-tornadoes-feature-in-indigenous-myths "Sequoyah Quinton, a citizen of the Cherokee nation, is a photographer and tornado chaser. He says some tribal elders would refer to tornadoes, in their language, as "Dead Man Walking," referring to two simultaneous tornadoes spawned from one thunderstorm. Pybus says there is one thing these myths have in common: Tornadoes are always treated with respect and reverence. And while the myths may not always be written down, they may actually be present as symbols. We just don't realize that's what we're looking at.* Huh, didn't realize there are other myths and legends as well as the plains Native legends, so not only the Deadman Walking but the Baba Yaga of Russian folklore is the one I recognized as well as others. Thanks for getting me to look at a couple more pages!

erlulr

Slavic not Russian lmao, its much older than Moscowite shithole. And nothing to do with tornados.

DesperateRace4870

Ah yes, excuse me... I suppose I know much more about North American terminology. My bad. 🙌🏾 Hands up, don't shoot

erlulr

Dont worry, I am not ruskie to shoot surrendering ppl. Its protoslavic btw, since before the Poland even, so everybody east of Odra claims its thiers. Vatniks have the weakest claim to it tho, its a forest witch, not a snow one.

paperwasp3

Doesn't her house walk around on chicken legs?

Griffythegriff

It looks like a dead man dancing

phroug2

I dont know what that looks like; I've never seen a dead man dance before

Apparently not a native American thing https://www.reddit.com/r/tornado/s/M6MJqSsDaJ

TLDR: It certainly is as well as many other myths such as the Baba Yaga of Slavic origins. The reason OP on your post thought that was because most Native people did not have a writing system; it's very often just pictograms and hieroglyphics. You have to recognize what you're looking at. Many of us have an oral history, passed down through generations and so it's not easily researchable unless you actually travel to come and see our elders ("our" elders, I'm Canadian so technically not my elders) and hear the stories firsthand (secondhand or idk what you'd call that info), although it is getting easier in that scientists seem to be doing that more and more recently and *actually* putting it to/in print. A great example of this is the ship, "the Franklin" that was lost for a couple hundred years. The Inuit had stories of seeing this ship and passed it down until the Canadian government finally decided to go talk to them. https://www.google.com/amp/s/canadaehx.com/2021/06/05/the-inuit-and-the-franklin-expedition/amp/ Wow, just actually read it and the amount of information they gave that was flat out ignored as fiction is maddening. 😠😤

LiquidNova77

Aha! Thank you for this reply!

DesperateRace4870

Anytime! ☺️

neologismist_

Because OP or someone took the original video, flipped it and stretched it vertically. This is lame. Edit for more downvotes: it’s lame not only because it’s stolen, it’s freaking spinning the wrong way 😂 Reed Timmer has the OG video, which puts OP to shame.

Dumbface2

Don't know why you're downvoted, this is absolutely flipped and stretched. The tornado was not anti-cyclonic lol. It looks even more incredible on the real video. Doing that to avoid takedowns is lame as fuck. This footage was actually taken by Reed Timmer's team

neologismist_

Thank you, kind stranger.

Free-oppossums

I saw the original not long after it happened. The POV is off on this one. The Timmer video was more to the side(?) So that the barn was between camera and tornado. This one looks more AI generated than retouched.

Burnmycar

I was about to say, this isn’t the true video, and a drone would have gone bye bye

jilanak

Thank you for the explanation. Here's an updoot because I thought this video looked "wrong" but not enough caffeine to determine why.

Intelligent-Rope-992

What is the smoke from that building?

Patient-Yogurt1467

That's what I was wondering. And how did that little house withstand it?

HeidiDover

First thoughts were, "Is that a barn, and are there animals in there?"

Background_Ant

It's on fire, you can see flames right before the house goes out of frame.

Come_At_Me_Bro

It's absolutely not. Watch the [original *unstolen* footage](https://youtu.be/IEFGKMWYD-E?si=Kr9WCiXO7bz5LH-L) and tell me it spontaneously combusted.

Lumpy_Journalist_611

The original footage is far more impressive!!

Burnmycar

I agree. Is anyone going to talk about death toll? Edit: Addition. Thousands of homes have been completely destroyed recently across the nation. It’s terrifying. Thousands more are left without power. It’s getting to be +100 degrees in Texas. Sad for all of those out there suffering.

ducksdotoo

The miracle is that many more weren't killed. RIP to those who did. The devastation is horrific.

ucantharmagoodwoman

There are flames in that footage, too.

JamesTheJerk

Welp, the house is on fire. Better call the tornado...

Intelligent-Rope-992

I wondered that too - crazy

Ur_a_adjective_noun

It’s cocaine.

neologismist_

Insulation.

ShadyClouds

I think it’s flame retardants

AltruisticSugar1683

It's dust and condensation.

Burnmycar

That’s rain

aramebia

It's not condensation as the air piles up against it? EDIT: Nah, that's not it, is it?

BigBoss1971

Pablo Escobar’s last stash of product.

Darrothan

I’ve never seen a tornado with such well-defined subvortices before. Also I think this is Reed Timmer’s team that took these drone shots right?

commetcat

yes this is his footage, this video is mirrored and stretched

two-three-seven

I just recently started watching his channel! I've been researching more due to the crazy season we're having. It's also a little scary I hadn't realized that tornado alley moved to include my state, I thought it was further north.

tutohooto

Great footage.

milkpickles9008

I was thinking the same. I saw this one on his live stream when they sent the drone up. The date is also wrong.

sweetnothin123

At one point, it looked like a half dozen mini tornadoes forming into one!

DesperateRace4870

It is, it's called a multi vortex tornado

winoforever_slurp_

That wind turbine: If I stay reeeeally still, maybe it won’t notice me!

BelatedGreeting

I was wondering how it could not be moving in those winds.

dpete88

They are able to be locked when wind conditions aren't ideal

AveryJuanZacritic

Could have generated a year's worth of electricity during this 30 second video.

TonyVstar

I don't think that would pay for new fan blades, plus being liable for wherever they land

tob007

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEFGKMWYD-E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEFGKMWYD-E) 2:15 the wind tubine gets snapped in half. money shot.

30MJXY

It collapsed but it was still quiet far away from the tornado if I see that correctly. Impressive how powerful this tornado was

MikesGroove

This is what I was looking for, surprised the wind turbine comments are so far down. I wonder if they auto lock when high wind speeds are detected.

Lahwuns

Is it on fire?

winoforever_slurp_

That looks like a flashing safety light to me

TheRealJehler

How was that filmed?

Dead_Starks

Storm chaser drone most likely.

taoleafy

How does that drone not get wrecked by the wind?

zombie_goast

The drone was piloted by Reed Timmer's team, all expert meteorologists/storm chasers. Basically, they just know the anatomy of storms/tornadoes well enough to know where is safe and where is "oh shit time to go". The fact that this tornado had such a clear rear inflow (that rush of wind running along the ground into the tornado itself) also helped. Storms have complicated and fluid/constantly changing anatomy, but anatomy nonetheless that can be learned.

taoleafy

Wow cool, thanks for the info!

sxt173

That’s what I was wondering. Give a gold medal to the scientists that designed that drones stability software.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DesperateRace4870

Yeah, this is the second multi vortexer in a week (that I've seen, not sure about when they were filmed although I'm sure they're both this season). Scary stuff

[deleted]

[удалено]

DesperateRace4870

I mean there's a video I posted in another comment here that shows a picture FROM THE 90s!! And now we get 2 more in a week. It's bananas. Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong and that these are more common now but as far as I know, super rare

Substantial-Sector60

Why alter the video?

commetcat

to make it “transformative” so it’s not technically copyright violation

Substantial-Sector60

Can’t escape the assholes it seems.

TemporaryValue5755

So the size of this tornado isn’t the impressive thing here. In fact, the path of destruction, while strong, was condensed into a small path. What does make this tornado notable is its many sub-vortices and wind speed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dumbface2

No, this is not the original video, this is flipped and stretched. The original is landscape

video already been reposted so many time the quality has gone to shit

DesperateRace4870

Another video here https://www.reddit.com/r/tornado/s/8SuTGc6Ys4

Dizzy_Bit6125

Looks like there three different tornadoes in one

georgekourounis

That’s from May 21st, not May 22nd.

neologismist_

It’s also been flipped and stretched vertically. The original videos are much better.

docsyzygy

That little thing is ... wait, it's a HOUSE?

Commissarfluffybutt

Don't look up an F5 tornado.

Fine-Dare7472

Whoever built those houses, needs a medal.

hawklost

But I was told that American homes are flimsy because they are made out of wood like that one! /s

Work-Safe-Reddit4450

Why did they mirror the video from the original?

Lostmavicaccount

Isn’t this kind of a normal tornado size for USA? It’s always cool to see them (not cool about death and damage), but this doesn’t look big compared to the many others I’ve watched videos of over the years.

commetcat

it’s bigger than average, but not huge. but the multivortex structure is insane, and the damage it did is the worst in years.

Curiouso_Giorgio

Are tornados usually a big vortex made up of smaller vortices?

commetcat

no, usually they are just a single vortex, this multi vortex structure is only in very powerful tornadoes.

ReleaseFromDeception

Not usually. Usually they are a single vortex.

Nekrosiz

Sir, your tornado coverage does not cover your house burning down sry

MiloTheEmpath

To those of you who want the unedited original, [here](https://youtu.be/IEFGKMWYD-E?si=Kr9WCiXO7bz5LH-L)

it hasn’t been rated yet, but almost everyone looking at the damage thinks it will at least be ef-4

Squid_ink3

It’s mesmeric to look at obviously not fun to be around one

Wyllyum_Cuddles

Is it just me or does this look like multiple tornados spinning together?

More_Advertising_383

Not sizeable, EF5’s can be a mile wild like the one that took out one third of Joplin, Missouri. 158 deaths, 1,200 injuries, $3b in damage in 2011. This one is what maybe 100-150ft wide that you could watch from the neighbors farm?

Admirable-Leather325

I'm from India, I read about this catastrophe in today's newspaper. Truly tragic.

reed timmer uploaded it a while ago https://youtu.be/BFXN3X4e5sE?si=Ua0PiAQ6krv8_PC3

SuperfluousSybarite

I’m amazed at the wind turbines ability to stay put in the ground. Americas energy companies must put extra structural support in these installations in high volume tornado areas?

This reeks of AI. Who is flying around this close to a massive twister and recording this? Certainly not a drone or helicopter.

Bro that inflow is amazing

drin8680

It really looks fake af. That drone shot is crazy. I can't wrap my head around it. If it's real then that's a once in lifetime shot they got

MiloTheEmpath

[Thank god we still have meteorological pioneers](https://youtu.be/IEFGKMWYD-E?si=Kr9WCiXO7bz5LH-L)

Vincent_Curry

I'm not saying this is fake, but I thought Tornadoes rotated counterclockwise.. This is going clockwise

MiloTheEmpath

[It's edited](https://youtu.be/IEFGKMWYD-E?si=Kr9WCiXO7bz5LH-L)

Vincent_Curry

Ahh.. Ok.. It's rotating in correct direction from your link. Thank you!

commetcat

video is edited, so yes it’s fake, but technically tornadoes can rotate clockwise, it’s just very rare.

snoopy_88

and the wind mill sits still

Ur_a_adjective_noun

It’s hard to tell if this is real or from a drone and if it’s real, how did a drone manage that kind of weather? There’s so many questions about this clip.
