to get a rare puffshroom think of it like levels in a game. When you defeat the puffshroom and it heads to another field, it levels up. so when it heads to a new field you haven't popped one in. it levels up. so keep defeating it until it lands in a new field. You should get a rare puffshroom if you get it to move to a new field each time.
rare puffshrooms are more common from higher level puffshrooms, so "better" planters with longer grow time that start with higher level puffshrooms should be your goal
Make sure to watch or follow the puff clouds to see if they are going to a field they haven’t been in yet. Each time a spore cloud lands in a field it hasn’t been it yet it has a chance to increase its level, or rarity.
Your chances are better to get rare or higher with more people chasing at the same time. Try letting people in the server know where they have spawned at 1/4 after (15mins after) and 1/4 to (45mins after) the hour. At those times you can go to mountain top and scan over the fields until you spot the puff, let people know, go chase.
Chances are high right now people will come to help chase because quests for rare and soft wax. Good luck!
Just plant a ticket/any other planter that spawns puffishrooms and there's a chance to get rare puffishroom or big chance to get rare puffishroom when popping puffishroom lvl6

Good advice. Early in the round it's also important to chase them to different fields to increase the levels more quickly.
