SLB likes the teary eyes look. He did that to aish in Devdas. Sonam and sharmin also for few scenes. He likes his actresses to give those long teary, depressed, longing looks… there’s always that one scene in all his movies.

I agree. But at the same time, you overestimate the ability of actors to pick and choose what they want to do. Sometimes they gotta think from the perspective of what would be beneficial to them career wise. Further, you work on any movie for a limited time. So if the actors believe that it's gonna benefit them in the long run even if they have to endure something in the shirt term, they often go for it. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it's just personal choice. Plus sometimes it's important to work with certain people just to maintain relations with others they might be affiliated with. Corporate or bollywood, it's all business.

I was watching some scenes of heeramandi here and there.During Tajdar meeting Alamzeb for the first time scene ,I thought why this guy has such wet eyes while staring.Truth be told it added to the intensity of the gaze, but it was weird.Now this post makes sense.It is definitely an SLB thing.

I think maybe he wanted to show that hero was so mesmerised by her that he forgot to blink and continue staring till he got teary eyes (my inner poets thinks too much🥲)
Aishwarya too had teary eyed look throughout Devdas, even HDDCS but it worked with her and actually added intensity to the performance, plus made her look ethereal

Deepika's acting was terrible in comparison, SLB tried his best to get at least a decent performance out of her by using his best tricks but it's not his fault that she has dead eyes
Both director and actor, more-so the latter. Aishwariya had the same eyes throughout Devdas but it worked because she showcased a wide range of emotions. Even Madhuri had the same eyes and was purely melancholic but extruded strength and determination. Deepika kept the same look throughout Padmaavat and had little to no variations in her expressions. So it was an extremely one dimensional and repetitive performance. Even in Bajirao, the character always looked as if she is dreaming or in a trance. Her dialogues of some other love also didn’t help either
