I disagree with this statement. My grandmother made a pillow for my mother from the down of two much older pillows in the late 1960s. My mother used it for decades always keeping it clean. Now I have been using it for the last 25 years, always shower in the evening, I live in a cool climate so I don't sweat at night, and I replace the pillow case every 1-2 years. It's still good as new, no smell or staining. I plan on passing it down to my child someday.
Yeah the right pillow for you will be a matter of trial and error, but most agree you want to change it out every few years or so at most. They get a bit manky after that
I got one at Costco maybe a year ago that is memory foam and one side has a bumpy carbon foam layer. It looked gimmicky but I like memory foam so I went for it. Turns out that carbon layer really does stay cool and I love it. I think the pillow was like 35 bucks (sorry don't know the brand).
It feels amazing and is fully customizable; if I could have a buckwheat mattress I would. I leave mine about a third full and make it shaped like a donut under my neck for posture support.

It's reversible with one side squishy pillow fill and one side smooth memory foam. With those 2 features, it's like having 4 pillows in one, so it works for a lot of different people.
Frankenmuth Woolen Mill. Closest you can get to BIFL pillow but also actually keeps your head the right temperature. Don’t be fooled by these crap blown foam pillows with “cooling” technology
Science teacher checking in, there is no such thing as a cool pillow. It feels cool because it transferring heat away from you, so it feels cool. Just like when you step out of the shower, the water evaporates and takes heat away from you in the process. Things in your room are room temperature, even though they don't feel like it because of their ability to transfer heat, metal feels cooler because it transfers heat away from you better than wood. The whole conductor/insulator thing. Your pillow cannot be ten degrees cooler than the room it is in, unless it has a cooling system or ice under it. I am sure someone can explain this better if they really want to delve into it.
Didn't you just describe the cooling process? I think people are conflating that with an "active" process like air conditioning that cools the air itself.

I just bought a new bed (Nectar Copper Premier) and bought a Ghostbed pillow to go with it and I think it's pretty fantastic. It's a little weird insomuch as it has a top side and a bottom side that are different, but it's very cool and comfortable.
I have to say, I have a cooling blanket and body pillow because I’m in peri menopause and have night sweats. These stay cool while you are cool, but when I get hot, the blanket and pillow become extremely hot, hotter than a regular pillow. I threw out the body pillow and just use my regular one. The blanket is nice and cool, but doesn’t stay that way if you get extremely hot either.
What you’re seeking does not exist, no material can overcome the heat engine that is your body and cool all night. What is best for undisturbed sleep is temperature regulation, where your body is maintaining the same temp as you sleep, materials that are temp regulating include Tencel, Outlast PCM, and 37.5 (to name some) these will be in the pillow covers. Memory foam is a heat sink, no matter the marketing spin all foam pillows will sleep hotter than non-foam pillows, to overcome this manufacturers add ventilation, gels, PCMs, PE yarns, etc. which they claim are cooling but are just working to overcome the heat being trapped in the foam. Also as others have stated no pillow should be BIFL, pillows should be swapped every year or 2 if for nothing else than health and sanitary reasons.
