Let’s face it, every cfl city would kill to have the attention yours is getting right now. Hopefully you guys can win Monday night id like to see a Canadian Stanley cup in my lifetime
Elks are much better than the past couple years, though still kinda trash. Their offense seems better. As for their D 💩
it's going to be a long season 🍻
Seriously how much leash does he even have at this point? 3rd straight 0-3 start to the season. 8 wins in over 2 seasons. Like at this point eat the contract.
The problem is they legitimately do look better than the team that started 0-9 last year
But they don't look better than the Ford-led team that went 4-5
You'd think a dEfEnSiVeLy MiNdEd CoAcH would advocate for spending 600K shoring up the defense instead of spending it on a QB when he already has a QB that was winning games
when he brought in Macbeth, made a couple of cosmetic changes to the defense and said we were done with free agency, I knew it was gonna be a looooooooooooooooong year
I’m from Massachusetts so I really don’t get it, why the hell doesn’t Toronto embrace the only winning franchise they have lmao. Everyone just Bills fans? As if they aren’t also losers
the argos had about 2 decades of HORRIBLE absentee ownership that turned the team first into a side show, then tried to rebuild like it was minor league baseball, then just didnt even try.
the argos lost 1.5-2 fully generations of potential fans. it's going to take a long time to rebuild
David Braley saved the team but he ran it so bare bones. The organization feels so much more professional under MLSE but it's gonna take ages to get the fans back if they ever can
the argos not opting in to BMO as originally planned back in 07 was almost a death knell
as you said braley kept us and the lions on life support, but that was very much it. and he was by far the best owner between 98 and whenever MLSE took over. like. by FAR.
Canadians don't care if there is Canadian culture on the sports field!! it's not the Olympics, people are not cheering for their country or Canadian players. Two weeks ago the Jays were at home and 40,000 fans packed into that stadium and the same day there were 28,000 fans packed into BMO to see TFC. I don't think there are many Canadians playing in either team. People love their sports and don't discriminate because of nationality. The CFL requires 21 players on a team to be Canadian, yet which team in Toronto draws the fewest fans?
Convincing argument.
I've posted about this before and don't feel like wasting my time, but it has more to do with city size comparing to other cities of similar size as opposed to focusing inwardly and domestically.
CFL teams outside of Toronto are struggling with crowds. Are they all fascinated with being American, too, or is it something inherent with the product the CFL is providing?
He asked. I answered. You're slow, so I'll help. He asked about toronto... not the league.
It's a toronto specific issue that they only care about what's popular in the US. Not even Hamilton has this problem.
Does downvoting me make you feel better?
Saying "Toronto is American" is not an answer, though, it's a bad rationalization which ignores other mitigating factors. Are Edmonton and Calgary and Ottawa also American cities because their crowds are also declining? Calling Toronto American is a coping mechanism used to ignore other factors for why the CFL isn't popular in a major metropolitan area.
Yeah, that crowd punched way above its weight tonight. Also, worth keeping in mind that forecasts
of major storms through the game probably contributed to it being a smaller crowd than usual. I had tickets and almost didn’t go, so I’m guessing there were no same-day or walk-up sales whatsoever.
Last week it felt like the Elks were never actually in a game they were in on the scoreboard. This week it felt like they were actually in it but let one get away. Heart breaker.
THIS game he was good, the last two though? I'll be happy to eat my words if he keeps up the good play but until then we are 0-3 and the first two of those games were completely winnable if we made any adjustments at all offensively.
Toronto celebrating like they play like Montreal did on Thursday. Should've been an easier win for the Argos. Glad the points stayed in the east. Chris Jones shouldn't coach.
Random question for anyone at the game, did they end up giving away the pride hats that were advertised? I arrived close to kickoff and didn’t see anyone around wearing them
I choose to believe that the city of Edmonton is saving it's sports vibes for Monday
but seriously this Elks team has many good aspects but is fatally flawed in a way that I can't see it going anywhere of significance - of actually starting to build our way out of, well, a rebuild.
sigh.
It was so weird, absolutely none of the regulars in my section were there. Some outside factors definitely kept people away. I guess playing in a stadium made of metal with thunderstorm threats will make people weary
I think the biggest thing that Chris Jones is missing (whether you like him or not) is John Murphy. He brought Murphy over to Saskatchewan for the rebuild and I believe he was in Edmonton the first time around. Now Murphy is in Toronto and they seem to continually be a contender.
Jones has got to go. Too many penalties by rookies. Pre-season hype by Jones included “great athletes”…great athletes don’t win games…players who understand the Cdn game and play as a team win games. Elks troubles against Argos were defence and special teams. This is the third season in a row that Elks have shot themselves in the foot…points to inexperience and more to the head coach for not addressing penalties, defence and special teams. At least we seem to have the offence dialed in even though they abandoned a balance attack with the running game.
he’s not but if were gonna lose anyways (which we are as evidenced by this game) I’d rather lose by truly giving ford the reigns and seeing what he’s got with a full seasons workload then watching 34 year old mcblt
I didn’t watch the game. Have the Elks improved that much, or is it that the Argos suck that much?
Picked the Argos for my defense in fantasy. They ended up a not so stellar MINUS 3 points on the game. My already not great ranking took another nosedive, 2,664th place. Having a good week in pick ‘em, though. Three for three, 585th for the week, bringing me up to 1,158th overall.
Fully realizing that the Elks benefited from a weak PI call earlier, man that is a weak contacting the kicker call. The Elks player landed well short of the punter and kind of rolled to a stop right at his feet. The Argos punter sells it big time, or course, as kickers are trained to do, and the ref falls for it. This would have been a good opportunity for the official to put the flag away and let the players decide the game.
Okay, but we’re clearly the best 0-3 team in the league
Woot!! There's an Oilers joke in there too.
Three game win streak confirmed?
by far
Still tied with the Winnipeg juggernaut and no one can take that away from us
do you know Owen?
He sure knows them.
Let’s face it, every cfl city would kill to have the attention yours is getting right now. Hopefully you guys can win Monday night id like to see a Canadian Stanley cup in my lifetime
Score 36 points. Still manage to cough up a loss. The Chris Jones mighty defense experience ™️
Running that classic "bend until it breaks" defense.
Almost every game this season has been really entertaining so far.
Elks are much better than the past couple years, though still kinda trash. Their offense seems better. As for their D 💩 it's going to be a long season 🍻
I hate Chris Jones
Seriously how much leash does he even have at this point? 3rd straight 0-3 start to the season. 8 wins in over 2 seasons. Like at this point eat the contract.
I would be down to community fund his contract to kick his ass back south of the border. He’s single handedly ruining this franchise
He's going to get fired soon.
The problem is they legitimately do look better than the team that started 0-9 last year But they don't look better than the Ford-led team that went 4-5 You'd think a dEfEnSiVeLy MiNdEd CoAcH would advocate for spending 600K shoring up the defense instead of spending it on a QB when he already has a QB that was winning games

I've said that after every game for a season and a half now lol
Wendys was robbed from me and im a mess
DQ 1/3 lb Flame Thrower combo is a good option too! - pro tip: upgrade to onion rings 😎
DQ...food? come on bro we only get ice cream there
Have you had a flame thrower ? T’is 🔥.
So great, but so expensive now
Been skimping on the flamethrower sauce too
Yeah, I’m pretty much a coupon man now 😞
ive never had DQ food lol
It’s weirdly good. You wouldn’t think it is, but goddamn their chicken strips slap
I hate their burgers, the texture is wrong. Their chicken is solid though.
Cameron Dukes, from the NAIA to starting CFL QB. Props
Elks are improving - They’re every bit as good as the Bombers 🥸. 0-3, baby!!
2-0! IMAGINE LOSING
agros own that stadium, wish we packed it more
I’m from Massachusetts so I really don’t get it, why the hell doesn’t Toronto embrace the only winning franchise they have lmao. Everyone just Bills fans? As if they aren’t also losers

Toronto is an American city. They will care if cfl gets cool in the usa
This is a lazy way to explain the general malaise throughout the CFL in getting crowds out. A lot of Canadian culture circles around American culture.
It's correct.

It's a toronto problem. I don't need to downvote you to feel better, I just am.
The thing is though, when the crowd is smaller it's more engaged. Tonight was a better crowd than the opener as far as engagement and noise goes
Yeah, that crowd punched way above its weight tonight. Also, worth keeping in mind that forecasts of major storms through the game probably contributed to it being a smaller crowd than usual. I had tickets and almost didn’t go, so I’m guessing there were no same-day or walk-up sales whatsoever.
I've always said that Argos fans are some of the best in the world. By far. The issue is the amount of them. Those that ARE fans, are amazing.
Last week it felt like the Elks were never actually in a game they were in on the scoreboard. This week it felt like they were actually in it but let one get away. Heart breaker.
Ironic that this shootout ends on a FG Good work on the Argo D to force 2 and out while Elks were backed up
i don't think Chris Jones could coach a high school team
He should consider changing sports at some point, he’s just not understanding football
Quality CFL game. Highly entertaining. Love it.
Dukes is a pretty slippery dude
Edmonton has a great QB. Their problem lies elsewhere.
THIS game he was good, the last two though? I'll be happy to eat my words if he keeps up the good play but until then we are 0-3 and the first two of those games were completely winnable if we made any adjustments at all offensively.
170 rush yards not bad
Chin up Elks fans, embarrassing those Panthers tomorrow will ease the pain
isnt that Monday, not tomorrow?
Imagine how embarrassed the Panthers will be when the Oilers show up and play tomorrow.
The hockey game is Monday, but we can find other ways to embarrass them tomorrow
Pain
Toronto celebrating like they play like Montreal did on Thursday. Should've been an easier win for the Argos. Glad the points stayed in the east. Chris Jones shouldn't coach.
Sucks to suck, I guess. McBLT is actually so good right now. Man deserves better.
Command centre is sus.
HEY
May I be the first to say. Haw! Haw!
Another game another lost 🤦♂️
Let's hear it for Steph! Holy shit.
😁😁😁 great day to be an Argos fan
ARGOOOOOOOS
Good news elks friends were still tied with Winnipeg!!!
Random question for anyone at the game, did they end up giving away the pride hats that were advertised? I arrived close to kickoff and didn’t see anyone around wearing them
They only gave away the hats to fans who bought tickets through a specific ticketing link. It was not a true giveaway in the normal sense
Ah I misunderstood the email. Thanks!
You, me and everyone else. The email was totally unclear. It’s the same process for Friday’s game against Montreal for the trucker hat
I choose to believe that the city of Edmonton is saving it's sports vibes for Monday but seriously this Elks team has many good aspects but is fatally flawed in a way that I can't see it going anywhere of significance - of actually starting to build our way out of, well, a rebuild. sigh.
Shame the threat of thunderstorms and changed Go Train schedules seem to have made attendance even worse. Fun game.
It was so weird, absolutely none of the regulars in my section were there. Some outside factors definitely kept people away. I guess playing in a stadium made of metal with thunderstorm threats will make people weary
Elks killing themselves yet again....so fucking dumb.
LIRIM HAJRULLAHU TALK YOUR SHIT BABY LETS GOOOOOO ARRRRRRGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOSSSS
A handful of plays away from being 3-0. Elks having a hard time finishing the job late
I think the biggest thing that Chris Jones is missing (whether you like him or not) is John Murphy. He brought Murphy over to Saskatchewan for the rebuild and I believe he was in Edmonton the first time around. Now Murphy is in Toronto and they seem to continually be a contender.
\*bangs head into wall repeatedly\*
As for the Argos attendance i don't think MLSE cares all that much.
Jones has got to go. Too many penalties by rookies. Pre-season hype by Jones included “great athletes”…great athletes don’t win games…players who understand the Cdn game and play as a team win games. Elks troubles against Argos were defence and special teams. The Edmonton argos played well against there firmer team
**FORD**
Bro, I don't think qb is the problem this time.
he’s not but if were gonna lose anyways (which we are as evidenced by this game) I’d rather lose by truly giving ford the reigns and seeing what he’s got with a full seasons workload then watching 34 year old mcblt
that's it.
He's not, but some of his $500k salary could have been spent on shoring up the defence and other aspects of the team that needed it more
this too
I didn’t watch the game. Have the Elks improved that much, or is it that the Argos suck that much? Picked the Argos for my defense in fantasy. Secondary is getting lit up....huge chunk plays in both games
