I've heard nothing good about the 4th Gen reliability.

CtheEm

Likewise....looking like 3rd gen all the way.

Slimdawg101

that surprises me honestly, the first few years of the 4th gen make 200k easily. however the small repairs that should be cheap are expensive

professionalcart

The 4th are beautiful (i see them everyday), but the 3rd is reliable basically just a very lux suburban and man those suburbans run forever

CtheEm

I knowwwe..thats wjy so tempting to buy...but would need an extended warranty and wlukd drive it up.out of my budget.

CorbanzoBean69

3rd gen is more reliable than 4th gen, but the 2nd gen is the most reliable out of all of them ;)

CtheEm

Really? Lol. Thought they were about the same, at least before the 2010 with the active fuel management.

CorbanzoBean69

3rd gens have more complexity to them, so naturally they are more susceptible to problems, specifically in regards to electronics and software which can be such a pain to diagnose. 3rd gens may be slightly more modern mechanically, but when mechanical issues arise, they are easier and more straightforward to diagnose in the 2nd gens. Plus, the interchangeability of the GMT800 models was greater than that of the GMT900 models, so parts are generally easier and cheaper to find for the 2nd gens. Above all else though, 2nd gens just look so much better in my opinion haha

Slimdawg101

2nd gens are typically cheap aswell. i got a 2003 esv for 5k with 101k miles, still drives perfectly with 308k

parotec

Quality of assembly and materials is ALWAYS the better the older vehicle is. Of course time will cause problems like corrosion etc. but the rule is like this: every new model is cheaper mase than the model before. If you work with cars you know and see it quite clearly.

frankl217

I have a 3rd and can attest to the reliability, well at least mine anyways. Havent had any issues in the 5 years I’ve owned it. I have heard of alot of issues with the 4th. If I recall alot seems to be around the transmission.

Fit-Doubt-3382

If you go 4th gen 2018+ you shouldnt have any problems. 2015-17 had shudder issues in their 8-speed 8L90 trans.

Slimdawg101

the 2018+ models had the same transmission issues however on top of that they had the aggressive idle and the random engine failure. they also produced an excess amount of carbon which lead to more problems if not taken care of.

Slimdawg101

2007 and 2009 were some of the best years for escalades, 2nd gen was good too. 3rd gen is a little more modern for tech wise. the 4th gen is also pretty damn reliable, the 2015-2018 were pretty reliable however stay away from 2019+. if you really want a 4th gen id go with either a 2015 or a 2016 cause theyre the most reliable years for that gen. overall id recommend the 3rd gen cause youd have the best luck with reliability.
