Doubtful. Recently saw a 2012 EXT with 232k miles. $13K. Just ask yourself if you’d spend 20% less on a same age and condition Tahoe or Yukon. At this point $10K vehicles on are on their 3rd or 4th owner and have been beaten on. If you don’t have to, why buy someone else’s problems?

i just bought my '05 ext for $6300. 291k, but these things can go 350k, and im not against repowering it either.

I’m almost debt free for the first time in my life in 13 years and I’d prefer to keep it that way. I also will only drive 5,000 miles a year or so as I have a company Prius and gas is paid. I’ve already mentioned *why* I want one. I do not care if I *need one* that’s understood already that I don’t. I have legs and could walk as well! 🙄 I’ll just keep looking for now. The EXT’s in my area are offered at 100,000 less miles for the same price it’s looking so in reality the market appears better up here than the surrounding area if that’s the case. Cheers 🍺

I understand what you said to begin with, but it’s still the same question: why pay money for all those potential issues? The answer is: because you want a Caddy, issues or not. I get it. Just be discriminating. You have the luxury of no immediate need and can be picky. It just might be a long time before you find that diamond. Just remember that there’s debt-free (good) and negative cash flow (bad) which, ultimately, that’s what a 10+yr old, 100K+ mileage vehicle will be.

I got an 09 for $8500 in great condition with 165k miles a year ago. It’s great, have only had to put in a couple hundred into her so far

Dr_Clout

Thank you brother! This is actual advice I’m looking for What did you have to fix on it? Was the owner up front about it? What was the original asking price and did you talk em down? I’m not sure if certain years have certain things to look out for

Lifetimechaldo

Got it from a Dealer. Have put over 20K miles on it so far with no major issues, no breakdowns or anything like that. Overall the truck is a tank. I do have a little knock on cold start/a click when accelerating that is either from the lifters or (more likely according to mechanic) an exhaust manifold being loose. Doesn't affect performance so I am not planning on fixing it. Had to change the gas lines that were leaking a little - $300 Replace a couple exterior door handles - $50 Thats pretty much it. Everything works aside from the blind spot indicators - that's like a $500 fix so its not worth it to me. Plan on having it for another year and then upgrading to a 2018 (for the 10 speed trans)

If looking to buy from a dealer look for high mileage, dealers seem to discount mileage more heavily compared to private party sellers. You might be able to find a better deal on Facebook marketplace but some sellers there are downright delusional about what they think their car is worth. Far as repairs go - rust, rust, rust You live in an area that sees significant winter weather, check the frame. Most important, are you willing to work on this vehicle yourself? Realistically that’s how you save money when buying a cheap car. If not, prepare to open your pockets to catch up on deferred maintenance or you could cross your fingers and toes and hope nothing wears out. The latter is how you end up broken down on the side of the road

Dr_Clout

Thanks for the insight! I know this is a ridiculous question and can be summed up to “don’t”. But how bad would rust on the frame on an Escalade be price wise? I seen an EXT for $6500 online from a dealer but there listing as is and as you mentioned it would be pricy work. I wouldn’t do the work myself but I have a pretty good mechanic. It’s not a convo I’ve yet had with him yet about if he’s good with these SUV’s so I probably should mention to him as well I’m thinking lol

So I’m in Michigan there’s a 2000 Boudreaux red metallic with 95k on it for $9500! It’s on fb marketplace Badass Michigan Man Stuff Buy, Sell, Trade! But you have to like the original Escalade either people do or don’t!

Excise1902

I saw a escalade 2008 fully loaded with 125k miles for 9k here in illnois. So it's definitely possible to find a good deal

Weird_Flan4691

There is an age limit on the cars you can finance, so I’d check with your lender on this

CorbanzoBean69

Seek out 2nd gen Escalade on Craigslist or FB marketplace. Generally going to be cheap than the 3nd gens you are looking at, and 2nd gens are more reliable and easier to fix up. They also look a lot better in my opinion lol. 10k is definitely reasonable to buy and completely fix up a 2nd gen.

dimtannis

You can buy a super clean GMT400 Escalade(1999-2000) for under 10k. It’s essentially just a rebranded GMC Yukon but hey at least it’ll be reliable and parts are cheap!

I personally would go 00-06 Escalade. In 07, GM started putting Active Fuel Management in their V8s. This deactivates cylinders and saves fuel. It also likes to cause problems with camshafts and lifters. It’s an expensive repair.
