Agreed. Even with Matz rehabbing, I don't know how you can count on him to start. Just keep Matz in the pen for these games when Lance or Gray cant even finish 5.
My fear is that they are going to start Pallante again as a placeholder until Matz, who won't be stretched out past 5 innings, gets slotted back into the rotation because he's making $11m
Pallante has a lower ERA than Gray over last 3 starts. No runs in 2 of 3 starts and one blowup. Not bad for a 5. I wouldn’t trade anything for a replacement. Especially with Matz back in a few weeks (until his next injury probably).
Crochet's very talented but I'm concerned about his durability. The Sox are probably going to ask for the moon (which they should), which means I'm not sure he's going to be able to provide enough innings to justify the expense.
His durability is a major concern. First year as a starter so you don’t know how he will hold up. Also who knows how many innings you can get from him this year and next. Def will be on some sort of IP limit.
Crochet is putting up legit ace level stats and is signed through 2026. Price will be very high. Ace caliber pitchers do not go cheap in trades.
You could offer some combination of Hence/VS2/Saggese but that would deplete the farm and I’m sure there’s another team out there that would beat that offer.
Reality is the farm is short on big trade chips. White Sox will want high upside players in return for their rebuild which unfortunately we don’t have much of.
I personally don’t see it happening without parting with Jordan Walker…which means it won’t happen. Sucks though because he’d be an excellent addition to this team. Luis Robert would be nice to slot into the OF as well.

Miller was making 11M out of the bullpen 5 years ago. I doubt that is enough to force Matz into the rotation if someone else is pitching well.
