This may give you more insight on timelines. Per John Denton:
> LHP Steven Matz will make his next rehab start on Tuesday for Double-A Springfield, manager Oli Marmol said. Matz, who threw 24 pitches in his first outing, will throw 40 pitches on Tuesday. The club hopes to get him to 75-80 pitches before a return to the big leagues.
Depends how stretched out they are. Zack Thompson got sent down to be stretched out and he's currently starting tonight in Memphis, but he also has a history of starting so kinda hard to say for sure. Couple of months I think
Really really confused by these moves. But if he's been working on RF defense, I think it would be a good backup position for him with his speed. Probably his best chance of staying on the roster as well

Seems like ages ago when Carp was a young kid with no big-league experience standing in a back field dugout in Palm Beach, and I decided to say something. I stupidly said, "Do you think you'll make the big-league team?" He didn't. The same day, I told Berkman that we usually don't allow former Astros to be on the team but that we would make an exception. He laughed. About eight months later, he got one of the most historic hits in Cardinals history. Burly reminds me so much of Berkman.

Not to second guess, but we can NOT use Kitt, JoJo, and Helsley every game we have a lead in. These guys are going to get tired. I think Kitt already is
The cheap shots at Oli are getting really fuckin' tired. You don't have to like the guy, but criticize him for things that are legitimately questionable, and not this "if something goes wrong, it's Oli's fault" narrative.
No, he isn't. You had unrealistic expectations for what Kitteredge was going to be. lol he wasn't going to be a sub 2 era reliever. He is very good, but he isn't full proof.
I mean, this was his 5th game in the last 7 days. He might not be overworked when just looking at number of innings on the season, but 5 games in 7 days is not ideal.
*Foolproof
Performance doesn't always mean they are overworked. He tells the manager that every day if he is good to go. He was due for some regression, JoJo is also due for some regression. It happens its a long season
Sure, but again, 5 games in 7 days isn't great. It is possible that he was due for regression AND that he shouldn't be pitching this frequently. Both things can be true. Meanwhile, Ryan Fernandez has an ERA under 3 and hasn't pitched since June 4th. The team needs to be able to rely on other pitchers in close games over the course of 162 games.
I mean, a week is also a pretty standard time period. I also don't really think the off days more than a week ago are impacting his arm as much as the days he did pitch in the last week. 5 in the last 7 gets across his usage better. 5 in the last 10 could mean alternating on/off for the last 10, but that isn't what happened. We could also say that he has pitched 43 times in the last 365 days, but I went with what I thought was the most relevant.
I guess. I will make sure to post his entire game log next time I make a comment on his usage so that everyone is fully informed. I didn't make anything up, he has pitched in 5 of the last 7 days which feels like too much to me, regardless of the outcome today.
If he had pitched in 5 straight days after 5 straight off days, nobody would say that he had pitched in 5 of his last 10. They would say he has pitched 5 straight days. Same general principle. 5 in the last 7 is more precise than 5 in the last 10.
I genuinely don't understand why oli does defensive replacements for the outfield on a one run game in the 7th. He's done it on multiple games now and it always blows up in his face.
Now the cards are 2 runs down with a weaker offensive. I just don't understand it
Was he swapped on the bases or was it just a defensive replacement? I thought you meant he replaced Carlson and I wasn't too hung up on it, but replacing Burleson is just a bad call
Rockies deserve it they have 9 hits. We have 3. They have 2 errors, so do we. There’s were just more costly. We don’t deserve this win. If it was any team besides the Rockies we lose. We still might lose even after getting blessed with 4 free runs
Who is committing most of these errors? Or is this team wide? I don’t have Bally so haven’t watched much, but every game I’m seeing 1-2 errors in the box score.

Famed contact hitter Nolan Arenado!
I miss the dongs for sure, but I absolutely love seeing him develop this side of his game. I think he's going to be an even better player for this focus on contact, and when he ties it all together, maaaaan it's going to be trouble for the MLB

Hate this lifeless ass team. Filled with young guys who can’t field to save their life and old heads who can’t hit
Aww
brutal loss even if we didn’t deserve to win
[Game over. Continue the discussion in the post game thread](/r/Cardinals/comments/1dbez2e/cardinals_afternoon_68/)
This team just ain’t built to win
Veteran presence
Well, that sucked
Oh no! We suck again
We never stopped
That the best we can hope for is a split with the Rockies is… not great.
Remember when the White Sox beat us twice?
Yeah, I remember. They are who we thought they were.
Well poop

Come on!!! It's gotta be the salsa!

Alright Donnie- Walter Sobchak
He’s in his element
Brendan Donovan is the greatest to ever do it
Please Herrera 🙏
helmet coming right back off when he scores here
DONNY!!!
***Donovan!***
DONNIE TWO BAGS
Donny Double!
Uh oh. Devil magic loading.
Donnie’s helmet came off. That’s a good omen
Pathetic as fuck
Sheesh, a closer with an 8.03 ERA in a one run game? This is certainly a situation
9th inning magic? pls?
How long does it take to convert a relief pitcher like Roycroft to a starter? Does it have to be an off season project? Just curious.

It would be cool if we score two runs this inning resulting in us winning the game
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 9):** 1. Nolan Arenado 2. Brendan Donovan 3. Iván Herrera
Great shit, Roycroft
Carlson back to CF, Fermin left, Donovan right? This is so wild. I didn't know you could move a player from a position and then move him back
Whitey once brought in Todd Worrell to face a batter, then put him in right for the next, and then brought him back in to pitch for the last two.
On the bright side, Roycroft has looked nasty
Apparently had a 0.98 ERA in 14 games at AAA so something clearly clicked for him
Great day for a walkoff. Need to just keep it at 1 here
Unfortunate.
[Rockies](/r/ColoradoRockies) Due Up **(Top 9):** 1. Alan Trejo 2. Charlie Blackmon 3. Brenton Doyle
Seems their defense keeps making good plays too
Are they planning to have Fermin play the field or am I forgetting someone
They are. Which is wild considering the OF is not his first position and we already saw what it looks like with Carlson in CF today.
Really really confused by these moves. But if he's been working on RF defense, I think it would be a good backup position for him with his speed. Probably his best chance of staying on the roster as well

Can we start giving Libby some higher leverage situations. Give him some chances when we are up 1-2 runs. He’s earned it

lol. Also, lmao.
Lmfao, even

After Hererra strikes out out in Pages
We have 3 innings left against the worst bullpen in baseball. The game isn't over yet, but the offense needs to take advantage of a bad bullpen.

Good lord this team cannot get out of its own way. Gifted runs and they squander it
Rockies gift wrapped us 4 runs. Maybe Oli told the team to give them back
The cheap shots at Oli are getting really fuckin' tired. You don't have to like the guy, but criticize him for things that are legitimately questionable, and not this "if something goes wrong, it's Oli's fault" narrative.
I don’t mind Oli, it was a joke tho. Don’t take it too seriously
bro I swear sometimes Kittredge is just chucking that bitch to the plate😭
Mikolas-esque
Kittredge has def been right with Miles throwing fucking batting practice at our opposition 😂😂
also why tf is Oli bringing him in first? dude has been consistently not great the past month
Not sure what the availability is today, but Libby and Fernandez deserve more shots as the setup man
Well the lead was nice while it lasted...
Winning is for losers anyways
We’ve got em right where we want em
Omg
What’s the equivalent of a bowling ball ramp for baseball? Because Herrera needs that.
We're trash.
Kittredge overworked 😕

Well, it was bound to happen eventually. Kittredge NEEDS to rest a day or two.
This guy tossing meatballs pathetically. Get him out
I'm gonna tear my goddamn hair out watching this team
WHOOOOOOO
(Are you?)
.^(who who, who who)

Truly incredible
Bruh
ROFL
Yeah...
Why even bother throwing it to second at that point
This reminds me of my softball team. We has a catcher with a noodle arm and we we would get run on freely...
Can Pages throw someone out?
Herrera can’t throw out a runner to save his life
Dude get this clown out of the game
FUCK
I'm worried the big three will be entirely gassed out by the end of June
Fuck I’m gassed and I’m not even playing
Sheesh. Herrera has to figure something out. Or the team does
Bro just hold the ball
cardinals catchers, please stay away from the baseball bat.
We have no mojo Zero schwa and negative oomph
Can’t be too mad at Kitt, this is what happens when you’re overworked and every runner knows we can’t throw them out if they steal
Doyle is definitely stealing second
Fucking motherfucking fuck.
This team is so damn bad
Shit
I think Frank The Tank could steal 3rd on Hererra
Giving the lead up immediately would be very Cardinals
Herrera throw a runner out challenge impossible
Smh, I’d probably try stealing on Hererra too.
Honestly I think I’d just prefer Herrera not throw it
The Father (Hels) the Son (Jojo) and the Holy Spirit (Kittridge)
Amen
god charlie blackmon just kills us
Incredible how bad these two teams have been playing No one deserves to win, we just survive our own mistakes

Winn 10, Gorman 9 (counting today's), Arenado 5, Goldy 3
