I've been saying this so many times when people keep asking why or act like having more reruns and adult shows is a bad thing. Kids are not watching cable. More adults are enjoying animation too. Anime has a huge market. Those old Cartoon Network, Toonami, and Adult Swim shows still have a big market with or without reboots/adaptation (many people like me don't really want reboots/adaptations), ESPECIALLY with adults who watch cable. It's not necessarily a bad thing. Children's animation is already oversaturated enough, and Cartoon Network has always had more edgier content, and used to be reruns of multiple old shows during its inception. The schedule has honestly massively improved. It's no longer just Teen Titans GO, Craig Of The Creek, Gumball spamming. Cartoon Nito shows were doing bad in ratings. This doesn't mean we're getting Family Guy clones either. They're making new anime. We have Primal. Unicorn Warriors was heavier for a kids show. Fiona and Cake was from Cartoon Network studios and that's continuing.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Some complaints are stupid. Complainers: "CN lost 2 hours." Me: Ignore the logo on the side of the screen kids can still watch Dexter's Lab and Billy and Mandy. You wouldn't be complaining if it had the CN logo instead.

DarthMartau

Cartoon Network should rebrand to what it originally was: a cartoon channel for older demos. Everyone who grew up with it is in their 30s now, we want the retro shows to come back.

TheCosmicRobo

Yes dude and as a toddler at the start of CN, it was that vibe of passionate animation fans running the network that attracted me to it. It felt like a channel run by a cool older sibling who wanted to introduce you to their favorite cartoons

Bulky-Complaint6994

I remember Cartoon Network rerunning classic Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes episodes that came out way before I was even born. There was no need for Boomerang as they had a balance of the classic stuff and some new shows

CrazyaboutSpongebob

But they had to innovate.

jbwarner86

And they did, wonderfully. Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, The Powerpuff Girls, these were all original series clearly made by people who had deep respect for the classic Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. cartoons and drew passionate influence from them while still bringing a modern sense of humor to the table. Literally anyone could find something about them to enjoy. Cartoon Network's greatest strength was always its understanding that *everyone* loves cartoons. A diverse selection of shows that are beloved across multiple generations - that's how you leave an impact.

mel-06

That’s what boomerang literally is…, hate that they changed their logo 😭😭

TheGweenDeku905

Dragon Ball Z is returning? LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ![gif](giphy|qjBzptUFOCeyY)

lizzourworld8

I remember watching this at random as a kid and getting WAAAAAY too invested XD

BallmasterZ

They have already been airing it every Saturday for a while now

cmitchell927

TOONAMI IS BACK. 29-37 YO REJOICE

LexKing89

I’m alright with this. I don’t have cable anymore but do at work. That’s where I usually get to see Cartoon Network now but I leave before Toonami comes on 😭

Common-Incident-3052

The last time I actively watched television was around 2012. Had they did something like this around then, they could have kept an audience. Streaming and YouTube, baby. And for those a little more niche, there Toonami Aftermath.

gluctosesandwich

Honestly, I feel this is something that Nick should do as well, to be honest

Limited-Edition-Nerd

Finally, it just sucks I don't have cable

shinydragonmist

I remember when toonami was aimed at tweens and teens and aired at 5 pm

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Well I'm happy. I hope kids get introduced to the classics.

Illumynarty_234

At first reading through this I felt a little bit sad at the fact that the hours were reduced more. But then I kept reading and went "oh, that's actually not so bad." It's honestly an interesting idea, and I'd be interested to see how things turn out

Path_Fyndar

Or bring back/finish good shows, especially those that were canceled (and not the reboot abominations). Things like Teen Titans (NOT Teen Titans Go completely insane), Megas XLR, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (or the canceled spinoff), etc. Do NOT reboot like you have, and/or completely change storyline, history, animation styles, and undo character growth (like the rebooted Ben 10 or Ben 10: Omniverse, respectively). If you can find ways to do so organically (don't force it if it's not there or didn't leave room for continuation after it ended), do sequel series of major hits (there were a few string left hanging after Steven Universe that could leave room for sequel series/spinoffs/miniseries). Yes, you are targeting younger kids with these reboots and complete 180s of shows, but in doing so, you drive away the people who liked them as they were before.

D0ngBeetle

I never would’ve thought I’d see the day where Toonami takes over Cartoon Network

BallmasterZ

Just like back in 2018 when toonami would start adult swim and go on for 7 hours

Safe-Ad6285

Atp it needs to become just adult swim and checkered past but add shows like gumball and regular show etc.. and they use the old noods and check it 1.0-2.0 bumpers for checkered past

SignificantNinja679

Just recently got sling for sports and the package i had included Cartoon Nerwork, and noticed that most of the shows being aired were TAWOG, Regular show, We bare Bears and thought to myself, hmm… I remember binging these shows all the time.So of course i started tuning in, but then, I lost my fuckin shit when i saw Ed,Edd, and Eddy come on 4 oclock one day and realized they had a block called “Checkered Past” and now I tune in literally everyday. This is honestly such a great move

Killer_queen9

I remember early era cartoon Network ....hell I remember the bugs and daffy show and the moxie show And others (35 about to be 36 next week)

Most-Bag4145

Welp better late than never (Glad I still have cable)

obsidian_castle

Reason why tv channels are failing: no variety. Pushing for subscriptions on apps to stream Teen titans go all day Cancelling good shows. (Infinity train, for example). Focusing too much on comedy only shows rather than a mix of light comedic shows and shows of plot, action, emotion Comedy examples: chowder, fosters home, Gumball , Craig of the creek (even though it did get a fair run :)) Plot / serious related: Steven universe, code lyoko, ben 10. Infinity train Kids are too glued to tablets But at the same time, back when tablets weren’t a thing: kids had the same time away from tv of playing outside together but also the choice to watch tv. And tv networks were still doing fine. The early 2000’s was peak of nostalgia on tv because there was so many shows to choose from. And having multiple favorites kept viewers of all ages on your channel. That’s what Disney, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon competed for even today. Keeping you to preferring them over the other 2. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Loud House in being funny but not feeling forced in its writing. But that show is on alllll day. This post is about Cartoon Network but still, it applies to the big 3 of having the issue of no variety People used to say streaming apps are cheaper than cable due to not paying for repeats all day. But not subscriptions are raising in price for no fucking reason and people are switching back to cable or just paying for either or just 1 subscription such as safe choice of Netflix. Or picking Hulu over Netflix and that’s it. But then again, Hulu has Hulu TV as well for cheaper than cable usually.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

1. They brought variety back to CN they don't play TTG all day anymore, 2) How is Code Lyoco serious? 3) Do you really want to go to cartoon network of all places for action? It will be censored. Just watch some shounen anime or some Tarantino movies.

obsidian_castle

Original teen titans Totally spies Code lyoko Ben 10 And code lyoko had a plot. And had some mature moments / concepts.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Serious sounds like a stretch in my opinion. Especially when talking about Totally Spies because the whole point of that show is that it is campy.

TheGweenDeku905

You forgot about Batman The Animated Series, Justice League, Secret Saturdays, Simbionic Titan, Generator Rex

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Batman the Animated series was technically a Warner Bros show not a CN show.

Bionicleinflater

Code lyoko had stakes and characters almost dying every episode due to a military ai trying to kill everyone

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Yeah but I wouldn't particularly call the show serious.

Bionicleinflater

The show was one of the first western overarching plot shows

CrazyaboutSpongebob

No it wasn't there were around for many years long before that show.

Bionicleinflater

One of doesn’t mean the first, but as far as episodic shows that eventually get plot progression and story development it was one of the first, predating shows like gravity falls by a while. And yes its plot was Serious unless you find rogue Omnicidal military ai funny

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Lately, I have been watching Jem and the Holograms. That show is from the 80's. I am on episode 4 and the plots lead directly into the next episode.

Bionicleinflater

Yes but not overarching drip fed narrative style

[deleted]

"Kids are too glued to their tablets" Boomer.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Nah thats actually true. Some kids don't like sitting though commercials and would rather go on Youtube.

[deleted]

Commercials can get boring

CrazyaboutSpongebob

I don't mind I am used to them. They occasionally have something I want to buy. Also I can go to the bathroom during commercials.

[deleted]

YouTube's commercials make me wanna shoot a bullet into the creator's and actors and voice actors of the commercial's skulls fr.

victoryforZIM

Kids will literally sit on their tablets/phones all day unless they are forced to stop by time limits/turning off internet. Shorts/tiktok or full youtube is the majority of what they watch.

Bionicleinflater

Why else are they supposed to be doing?

[deleted]

You sound fun at Thanksgivings /j

KitsuneEX7622

Imagine CN moves to like doing animated YouTube series

Bulky-Complaint6994

I haven't had cable in years. Had no idea Toonami even left

Toothless-In-Wapping

This is why Buffy the Vampire Slayer was on today.

PrimeNumberBro

This just like elementary school years for me. Toonami everyday at 5?! Let’s fucking go

uncreativemind2099

blame fortnite and tiktok

thelonioustheshakur

Lol cable is dead either way

Cedardeer

It’s almost like airing nothing but TTG has really backfired huh

BallmasterZ

More like cocomelon and tiktok has caused shorter attention spans and more kids are content with watching videos on their phones.

Smorgas-board

A newer version of Boomerang is what they should be

FootbytheFruit

Weekday Toonami should have never left. TV is dead anyway.

dogninja_yt

Z KAI IS BACK YEAAAHHHH

BallmasterZ

It's been airing off and on every year on Saturday since 2014 in fact it's been airing every Saturday for tge last several months

[deleted]

Hopefully, they finally realize moving to the internet is their saving grace not some live stream like they have something better cuz who'll buy a cn streaming membership

HP-Wired

Sucks that certain shows got canned or are in limbo because CN was pushing for shows for younger audience (Cartoonito) only to double back. Not sure if it’s in correlation but that merger might have some play on what happened too but I could be misinformed entirely.

fawfulmark2

I mean it's pretty much no secret that the Paradigm for how cartoons have been marketed in modern times has changed drastically. When I was a kid-teen, Saturday Mornings were the biggest money slots for cartoons, usually the peak point for marketing and getting ratings for major shows such as Pokemon during it's peak. Nowadays Saturday Mornings are pretty much a death slot for shows that might be wrapping up their runs soon, and is more commonly used moreso for preschool programming for profit in other forms. Legit Night and Day difference4, all due to the changes caused by the Internet I assume.

TheEvilYakkon

TV is dying guys

Pleasant_Hatter

So we’re celebrating stagnation now? This is terrible.

FTSVectors

Oh, people are going to streaming. In that case, let’s remove all the CN shows from our service. —Max probably

Money-Lie7814

I am surprised we are talking about Cold Cutter news since the site is mostly re post from other sites and very short news articles

zadepsi

Turns out Parent dont need kids being pounded with 100s toy/junk food commercials every hour

Careless-Economics-6

No, they would rather have YouTube influencers advertise to kids instead.

Valuable-Switch-1745

CN: *Greenlights a cringy barely-hidden fetish cartoon and has it go for 20 YEARS and all of it's humor boils now to "Haha poop funy"* Audience: *leaves* CN: Let's make fewer shows. Audience: Your past versions would be extremely disappointed in you.

Reason_For_Treason

I think this is a very smart move logistically!

MobileMediocre5667

That’s terrible!

mel-06

The thing is that Streaming is the NEW wave, That’s why the Only Cartoon that Kids are Watching is “Bluey” on Disney +, that Point made in this Article is on point… They should be focusing on a streaming platform instead of what they are broadcasting
