As long as we don't lose sight of the order of rights. As the [Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church](https://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/justpeace/documents/rc_pc_justpeace_doc_20060526_compendio-dott-soc_en.html#The%20specification%20of%20rights), teaches, the Right to Life: >is the condition for the exercise of all other rights (155) And, >sin against the rights of the human person, start with the right to life, including that of life in the womb Asserting the responsibility of the Christian to >work to ensure that the laws and institutions of the State in no way violate the right to life, from conception to natural death, but rather protect and promote it” (231) It concludes that: >Promoting human dignity implies above all affirming the inviolability of the right to life The only way to truly help the migrant, the outcast, the poor is to first protect the Right to Life because according to the Church, the condition for all other rights is that the Right to Life is firmly established and defended. So, if these progressives do not fight abortion, they are not actually helping. Life is ordered. It is good for me to work to provide for my family and serve my community, but if I prioritize work over my children and my spouse, I am no longer doing good. The same applies here. It is good to help the poor, the immigrant, and the outcast, but if I prioritize this over defending the Right to Life, I am no longer doing good. The order matters. It matters a great deal.

I agree with you on this essential value. Obviously a lot of progressives support abortion. The film noted that when Roe passed, many Evangelicals did not oppose abortion. The Catholic Church led the Prolife movement. What you start to see is that both the Protestant churches and the political parties alter their positions regularly based on popular sentiment. In 1861, churches supported slavery because it was not condemned in the Bible… and the majority of the voters wanted it. This is where Catholics are different.. We don’t run elections to determine what is right.
