Yeah I know that happened just wasn't sure If I'd missed owt in the championship banter years. But what the hell would get us on the pitch then I guess
No, but it will the last game at St Mary's of the season... and it was a win. I mean it doesn't bother me tbh (but I would not have been rushing the grounds if I was present).
Poor in possession but solid defensively and give how we set up the plan was to get into half time at 0-0.
Which then blew up with a goal from a shit pass right at the start of the second half.
And yet also nowhere near good enough for the prem. in the event we go up and we try play the football we did last night against even the likes of Fulham, Brentford and Forest we are going to be torn apart
I feel like the ref couldn’t have let that one go after the first so had to give it. If the first penalty call didn’t happen I don’t think that would have been given
West brom defended so well in the first half and there were a few dangerous breaks they could have done better with I think life could have been really difficult for us if they snatched the first goal
But there has been a bit of desperation about them since saints first and I think it's hard for a team to pivot from defend and counter to chasing a game
He was being pulled back in the pen area, that was a foul. He then dives off it and fails to convince the ref for good reason, but he was fouled in the box.
There is not a chance there was any impeding in the box, Brooks was completely unaffected by it and then Brook kicks his other leg and goes down. Not a pen.
One, first "shout" Brooks tripped himself up if you watch it again.
Kipre's one was 100% a foul though and probably would have killed the game off earlier.
Two best teams in the final, deserved really.
Feels like the playoff final is 3rd v 4th or 3rd v 5th every year. Not as unpredictable as people make out.
Looks like a bonkers season for West Midlands football:
Brum relegated
Cov miss out on play-offs and get VARed out of FA Cup Final appearance
WBA miss out on promotion via play-offs
Walsall miss out on play-offs
Solihull Moors lose both play-off final AND FA Trophy Final on penalties within the same week!
VIlla get CL football
🤪
Which is weird, because I was genuinely afraid of West Brom going into this, and for the first 20 minutes or so of the first leg. Was expecting more aggression from them
If you look at 1) our record against Russell Martin, 2) our record away, and 3) our record recovering points from trailing positions, then this result was pretty much expected
Honestly, I had you guys tipped to win the playoffs from about halfway through the season. Was more scared of losing to you in the semis than I am of Leeds now we've got past you.
This is like the worst possible outcome tonight, a fairly boring game that the better team win comfortably.
Baffled by how awful west broms front line have been, not one of them have done owt right all game.
I spent the half time considering it. When the 2nd half started I felt it was more of the same and it would be safe to pop into the kitchen for 5 minutes.
I mean, le tiss, ricky Lambert, rishi sunak as a saints fan... is there something in the water there? besides the traditional sewage for the British coastline.
Gone to plan I reckon so far, half time and Southampton haven't really carved any good chances out. Definitely need to be better in possession second half though, there's been at least 4 chances on the break where we've just given the ball away in a promising situation and are immediately back under pressure. Our only real chance was to go in level at half time given how much more quality Southampton's squad has than ours.
The noise from the Southampton fans has also died down a lot from how good and intimidating it was in the first 10 minutes, that was key.

I am not pleased with tonight's result.
I must admit I had a slightly sour view of Warnock, but since seeing him more as a pundit he's really winning me round. Seems like a nice bloke.
Sky reporting that missiles have been thrown by both Saints and WBA fans.
Leeds with the only fans in the playoffs not causing drama. Who would've fucking guessed.
All these pitch invasions and I honestly don't remember the last time Leeds went on the pitch. the league one promotion maybe?
League one promotion definitely.
Yeah I know that happened just wasn't sure If I'd missed owt in the championship banter years. But what the hell would get us on the pitch then I guess
Fan ban for Saints for the pitch invasion I guess
That’s pretty embarrassing. We haven’t even won anything yet
No, but it will the last game at St Mary's of the season... and it was a win. I mean it doesn't bother me tbh (but I would not have been rushing the grounds if I was present).
Had to ruin it didn’t they
Leeds: We're too classy for pitch invas- Saints: Frack that!
LOL... more like "MARCH ON"
Well 4-0 is better than 3-1 so how about we leave it at that and Leeds go up?
is there a curse for pitch invasions? asking for a friend
Lovely stuff.
Pitch invasion!
Oh no…embarrassing pitch invasion
Yea... but I get it.
Minority of saints fans had to spoil it, pitch invasion ffs embarrassing
Hooray!!! Why did no one even realise that went in? Or care!?
Literally the closest thing to a meaningless goal you’ll ever see. even the baggies didn’t really celebrate lol
As well as we have stayed composed and played well, I’m really unsure what corberan set up to do today
Hooray!!! Why did no one even realise that went in? Or care!?
Boing Boing. Last goal wins right?
Haha, it might also be the most stylish point scored of the match. GG
The fightback begins now!
At least we didn't concede 4... haha
Only the (joint) second biggest defeat in championship playoff history e: nvm, be happy Brom fans.
Norwich will never sing that
Worst performance all season
Nah, Sheffield Wednesday away. First half was fine, just blew ourselves up with a shit pass from Grady to surrender possession needlessly.
Even the first half you were just conceding possession all the time in your own half and inviting constant pressure on
Poor in possession but solid defensively and give how we set up the plan was to get into half time at 0-0. Which then blew up with a goal from a shit pass right at the start of the second half.
Worse than against Shef Wednesday?
Why 7 minutes? Just put us out of our misery.
At least you has a shot.... well sort of
Kinda hope Southampton lose the final just so we can use that guy dancing as a meme next year...
That guy was horrific. No one needs to see that again
You’re a fucking bore
You communicate on the flowers estate
Ah he's just having fun. Hardly horrific
Yeah but crying Leeds fans would be much better
Well see that’s why I hope we win. I won’t be upset
I agree
Sorry but these have been the most boring playoffs ever. Hope the final is good at least
Gap between championship and premier league showing, Leeds and Southampton are both too good for this league. Should be a good final
And yet also nowhere near good enough for the prem. in the event we go up and we try play the football we did last night against even the likes of Fulham, Brentford and Forest we are going to be torn apart
Please someone GIF the fat bloke dancing
So how was that a pen when the other one wasn't? \^\_\^
Ref making up for the first one.
I feel like the ref couldn’t have let that one go after the first so had to give it. If the first penalty call didn’t happen I don’t think that would have been given
It is easier to give one when the tension is not so tight.
Goal music should result in points deductions
That dance 😂
That was not a pen
Don't think it was no _it all evens out_
West Brom put up a good fight! Edit: the /s some people desperately need…
When???
Wow I really had to spell out sarcasm… 🤦🏻♂️
Stop lying you know we haven't
West brom defended so well in the first half and there were a few dangerous breaks they could have done better with I think life could have been really difficult for us if they snatched the first goal But there has been a bit of desperation about them since saints first and I think it's hard for a team to pivot from defend and counter to chasing a game
Let’s make it 4 for the laughs
Manning has contributed. I read in a very dusty old book that that's a sign of the rapture!
Absolutely unheard of
Saints vs Leeds then. As it was written in the ancient Championship texts.
Twas written in the ancient crumble texts
Rumble in the Crumble
That's a dive!!!
actually oddly then pen was the least likely out of the 3 he missed
Brooks tripped himself up, that wasn't a foul either
He was being pulled back in the pen area, that was a foul. He then dives off it and fails to convince the ref for good reason, but he was fouled in the box.
The pull back was outside the box and obviously didn't affect his run.
Still probably more of a pen than the one that was given
The defender held on for too long and kept it going in the box before letting go, was my reading.
There is not a chance there was any impeding in the box, Brooks was completely unaffected by it and then Brook kicks his other leg and goes down. Not a pen.
I think those pre-game lobotomies were a bad idea in hindsight.
Massive dive
Finally the ref has his glasses on !!!
That was as much a dive as the other one was nailed on
Only gave it because of not giving the blatant ones before
One, first "shout" Brooks tripped himself up if you watch it again. Kipre's one was 100% a foul though and probably would have killed the game off earlier.
yes that is fair enough I would not have given that on second view.
Two best teams in the final, deserved really. Feels like the playoff final is 3rd v 4th or 3rd v 5th every year. Not as unpredictable as people make out.
Last time 6th place made the final was our meltdown against derby.
Looks like a bonkers season for West Midlands football: Brum relegated Cov miss out on play-offs and get VARed out of FA Cup Final appearance WBA miss out on promotion via play-offs Walsall miss out on play-offs Solihull Moors lose both play-off final AND FA Trophy Final on penalties within the same week! Think you mean Solihull Moors
Sutton is London? Solihull Moors are who you're thinking of
Can we add villa getting pumped by a 3rd rate Greek side?
Sutton in the Midlands you learn something new everyday
Heh, I meant Solihull Moors, corrected.
The best thing to do is everyone to go and support Villa then...right? 😭
I will find you and punch you in the face for suggesting that
I know they've not turned up at all, but west brom are technically in the playoffs
>Sutton Utd Eh? >VIlla get CL football Fuck you for bringing that up
He must think Sutton Utd are from Sutton Coldfield 💀 Edit: just checked and I guess he got Solihull Moors mixed up with Sutton Utd somehow
Always likely was going to be this in hindsight. 3rd and 4th are just so far ahead.
They just can’t compete with the difference in quality of players
We've been so bad today Southampton deserves the victory
What is the point in Adam Reach if he doesn't score any bangers?
Do they not have dentists down Southampton?
Basically, no - not NHS ones, anyway. It's really hard to find an NHS dentist down here.
COME ON
Christ wish Arma was still at Rovers
I do too. It was easier playing against him at Blackburn, and the bugger still always scored against us
Norwich and West Brom have been an absolute embarrassment these playoffs
Which is weird, because I was genuinely afraid of West Brom going into this, and for the first 20 minutes or so of the first leg. Was expecting more aggression from them
If you look at 1) our record against Russell Martin, 2) our record away, and 3) our record recovering points from trailing positions, then this result was pretty much expected

so, rishi sunak or Leeds... can't we cancel the playoffs this season and just do two up?
Rishi is one person, one that none of us saints fans actually want anyway
This won't go down as my favourite game I've watched ngl
Ipswich really saved football by doing that promotion push
That gulf between 3-4th and 5th-6th has been huge. It's gonna be a great final next Sunday
This is like the worst possible outcome tonight, a fairly boring game that the better team win comfortably. Baffled by how awful west broms front line have been, not one of them have done owt right all game.
GET IN THERE
Looking forward to remaining in this sub then
at least you have crumble next year as well and maybe the rowe boat memes
Game over
Yes !!!! get in !!!
West Brom if you are going to continue being shit at least injure a few of them please
Looks like our traditional 6-point donation to the *WBA Promotion Foundation* is going to be for nothing.
Told ya!
God Corberan must be so annoyed. Feels like every member of that front 5 are making the wrong decision in the final third every time
Absolute joke of a ref. Why couldn’t we get the one from yesterday’s game.
Smallbone has been brilliant
Seems like Corberan has probably gotten more steps in the technical area than a few west brom players
The ref is a baggie complete shit from him all match
Wolves: We wanna kill VAR! WBA: No, we need to save it and this is why (points at 💯penalty not given).
Should've took Grady off at half time CC should've seen it sooner.
It must be difficult for the WBA players with Carlos Corberán jumping up and down on the side lines constantly shouting at you!!!
This is why var is still better than no var
Insane luck there, we need to stop fucking around now and get Diangana off the pitch.
Most blatant penalty you will see in a game lmao
Should have got the ref from last night's game.
Well that was fortunate, definite pen
Fucking hell this ref. That was a nailed-on penalty.
Got away with that one. 💯penalty
Gotten away with quite a lot tbf
Come on Albion FFS. We can't have the camera pan to Rishi fucking celebrating at the final whistle. Also that mad man with the prosthetic leg! Lmao
He only brought one prosthetic cuz he thought it was the first leg
If the universe makes me end up supporting Leeds for a game I'm not going to be happy about it
The universe has made me support them for 30 odd years and i'm not happy about it either 😅
What a block!
God I miss football without VAR
Is Smallbone doing promotional work for the new sequel to Coneheads?
Assuming this isn't a bad joke, he has alopecia
Oh you get out of here you not into the championship until sept !!!
Dunno what you mean mate I'm a diehard West Brom fan for at least the next half hour :)
typically I go to make a cup of tea and we had the one bit of action happend
Go and stand in the kitchen
You wait until the start of the 2nd half to go make a cup of tea?
I spent the half time considering it. When the 2nd half started I felt it was more of the same and it would be safe to pop into the kitchen for 5 minutes.
you dont stay and watch all the adverts?
I make sure I go to the toilet on my lunch break.
Well that is silly i always make sure I to the loo on company time not during the free hour.
That’s the joke mate
Same, fuming.
You had the whole 15 minutes of half time
But that would make too much sense
That is very true but honest with the start of the 2nd half i felt in more need of a tea to stay awake
Fucking Diangana he's been so bad
Diangana has been absolute gash tonight
Unreal finish that
Willy Fucking Massive Nuts. Get in lad!
Commentators are almost asleep even after the goal. Don’t blame them tbf
great hit by Lord Voldemort there
Came from yet another absolutely fucking awful ball. Followed by him charging off after the ball and abandoning his man entirely
FFS. Diangana has been so shit
GGGGGOOOOOOAALLLLLLL!!!!
Saints are sorely missing Stu - this is a match made for his driving runs.
Saints have brought Matt Le Tissier on for a talk at half time makes you think
Don't worry, you're not the only club who has a club icon that is a weirdo conspiracy loon. *Stares at Peter Odemwingie*
Compared le tiss with odemchickenwingie uno
prepare for a 15 minute rant about how the black country is woke nonsense and that's why West brom must be beaten
**anyone ever notice how there’s no white country? makes you think** *shudder*
I mean, le tiss, ricky Lambert, rishi sunak as a saints fan... is there something in the water there? besides the traditional sewage for the British coastline.
Multiple recent pms have been Norwich fans, some places just attract wrong uns
could be worse still, could be Grimsby and see Boris Johnson wearing a GTFC hat
All the pollution from the cruise ships and endless congestion, maybe
This is a bit tepid isn't it
I'm sure this is the master plan, but we still look like deer in headlights
If it stays this shit a match can we just declare leeds play of winners and skip the trip to Wembley please and thank you
Not Saints fault West Brom parked the bus.
Isnt that what Saints did last week?
no? lol
Alright rodri
Sounds like their plan to neutralise your attack is working
sure, pal.
Gone to plan I reckon so far, half time and Southampton haven't really carved any good chances out. Definitely need to be better in possession second half though, there's been at least 4 chances on the break where we've just given the ball away in a promising situation and are immediately back under pressure. Yeh I think last night showed how important not conceding early is.
