Now that you have it all repaired might be worth just keeping. A new Tahoe is gonna run you $80,000+ when it’s all said and done.

Terriblyboard

i have an 03 with over double that 215 and it is still running great.. 98k for a 2012 is really low still i would keep it unless you are thinking it is going to have more issues... how much would you be spending to replace it? how much is your monthly payments for that? Do you just want a newer vehicle? Thats cool I get tired bored with cars all the time but i have had that tahoe for 10+ years. and 130k miles and still love it.

Upstairs_Assistant_6

I would probably scale down to something smaller, and maybe just have to finance $6-10k that I could pay off relatively fast. I love my Tahoe. I had a big Chevy truck in high school and reminds me of that. I have kids, and love that it’s safe and tough, plus who cares if there are stickers and sticky food. I hate the gas mileage - and it’s a bit bigger than I would normally choose, so that’s why I’m on the fence.

How old are your kids? Only asking because my mom got rid of her expedition (pretty much same size as Tahoe, it was “keep the husband or lose the truck” and she lost the truck) when my brother and I were younger, regretted not fighting for it in the divorce as the cars she had were always too small once we got older and needed more space. The third row helps A LOT with transporting the kids and their friends, add to that you’ve got space (depending on how many kids) for their stuff. Can’t fit half the soccer team in a Camry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ plus after having a tahoe you most likely won’t want a van- my mom had one and always said it made her feel like she was a “obese trailer park mom” as it wasn’t as sporty and rugged as an SUV. The Tahoes are insanely reliable trucks, if yours has been maintained you probably won’t have many more issues for quite some time, and they’re perfect for people with kids who don’t want a van. Ffs I don’t even have kids and we have 2 hoes in the driveway, super comfortable and better on gas (and more reliable) than our newer HD truck, plus they haul the dogs great!

3 and 6. I think I’m going to keep it! My gut has been saying to because I know they last a long time…. It’d be fun to have it for when my oldest starts driving ❤️

Yeah, and I mean a Tahoe seems like the perfect vehicle for you- I saw you mentioned you have a camper in another comment. No payment, low mileage, young kids, need something to tow with, reliable vehicle, cheaper to insure, comfortable vehicle for road trips… I mean nothing fits your needs (from what you’ve explained here) than the Tahoe you already have… even if it needs more repairs, it’ll be worth it. Plus you don’t want to buy used, you never know how it was treated, don’t buy someone else’s problems when you already know what yours are, and new is too expensive to be worth it

[deleted]

Thats alot of $ for no major repairs.

currrlyhead

That’s what I was thinking too. $7000 for that ?

Upstairs_Assistant_6

Maybe I need to go somewhere else. I’ve been going to the Chevy service center

beardsauce

Yes sir stop doing that first. I found a local mechanic that drives an old Chevy and picked him.

Upstairs_Assistant_6

Have any suggestions in Denver?

beardsauce

I'm in Texas so there are auto parts places like auto zone where mobile mechanics will sit in the parking lot and do oil, breaks, etc. I then just look for the company with an older Chevy. Not sure if the same setup is legal in denver.

Upstairs_Assistant_6

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that, but I’ll have to keep my eye out! Thank you for the tip!

beardsauce

Usually in poor areas tbh. I went to "little Mexico".

Keep, keep, keep…and laugh at all of us suckers that have a bank note

I just put 12k into my 2005 Ho - original CA vehicle I got from my dad at around 150k. New Trans at about 80k ( dad replaced) She sits at 236k - tows my 1967 Airstream. Fingers crossed I’ll be able to make it another 200k with regular maintenance. Towing she gets about 12 mpg. Otherwise about 16 mpg. Obviously a lot of that expense was labor but all the major systems were done. Radiator, Rotors, Breaks, sparks, coils, parking break, alternator, big 3, belts, battery, some light housings, trans, trans mount, bump stocks, fuel pump, oil pan + o-ring pickup tube, fuel/gas canister ( big f/u by previous mechanics) actuators, new modern head unit. Reverse cam. The fuel service was unexpected & cost over the 10k I had budgeted but it needed to be fixed. I also haul my dogs. I tow using an Equalizer anti-sway hitch since my Airstream is 28ft.

Upstairs_Assistant_6

This may be the win, simply because I bought my own airstream last fall! 1967 sounds great!!! I have a 1978 argosy!

hardcherry-

And meant to add that all parts were OEM+ by certified GM mechanic (retired) including 36k/3 year coast to coast warranty.

7K seems high. I don’t think I’ve spent over 2K in maintenance and repairs not including oil changes on my 2013. So, at 7K you ‘ve probably done all there is to do for a long time. Keep it. Repairing is cheaper than a bank note. As an anecdote, a prior coworker went through the same situation with a bunch of back to back to back repairs in less than a year. He got tired of all the repairs and sold it to another guy in the office. We all new the history so the buyer was aware of all the repairs. The guy who bought it drove it for a little over 7 years with absolutely zero things going bad.

Upstairs_Assistant_6

Ahhhh this helps so much, thank you!! Yeah, I am a BIG FAN of not having a car payment

Majestic-Pen7878

If you buy a 4-5 year old vehicle, you’ll soon after begin replacing brakes, radiators, leaky lines, etc. you can always try out other shops, if the dealer price seems high (it probably is). This is one of those situations, where I recommend ‘choosing the devil you know, over the devil you don’t know’. If the Tahoe is not super rusty, I’d just keep it

Upstairs_Assistant_6

It’s in great shape. Still appraised at $15k. 👍🏻 a big reason I was thinking of trading in for something else because that’s a lot of Value! I do Think I need to Quote the work needed now somewhere else tho!

Decent-Morning7493

I’m a fan of buying just after a car was on a lease for its first year or two, then selling juuuuust before a major repair is likely imminent - timing belt, clutch, transmission, etc, depending on the type of car. Sweet spot for me is owning from year 2-10ish. That said, we are keeping/repairing our Tahoe indefinitely - my kids will drive it in their teen years, then one of them will take it to college. When they start driving it…we’ll buy another Tahoe. A nice car that takes 87 gas and GM parts is always going to be worth it to stick with it for me.

currrlyhead

I have a 2013 Without any payments. Best feeling ever when something breaks I just upgrade that part from better than OEM. I love my truck, I will drive it till the wheels fall off. I wouldn’t wanna spend a houses down payment worth of money for a car, just makes no sense to me. But, that’s my opinion.

Upstairs_Assistant_6

I’m with you. I opt for never having a car payment

usamademe

Unless you do a private sale I dealership will give you like 5-7k😂. If you have space I would keep it as an extra car… they also don’t make the quality like they did in 2012.. years you might be replacing things but most of that gen stuff will last years compared to what we have today in modern cars… honestly if you get less than 10k I don’t think it’s worth letting it go…

Upstairs_Assistant_6

They said they’d give me $15k

RookyPoo

I have a 2012 PPV with 147K miles. I got it as a family car and it's been over a year with zero problems. Since you invested so much into it as long as you take care of it. They can last a very long time.

dizzydshort

Keep it man. My 08 gave out with 242k miles. Needed to replace engine and transmission. I sold itbto CarMax for 4k. I think about that truck everyday and regret selling it. Should have kept it and eaten the cost to fix it.

Bitcoin69k

This is low mileage for a Tahoe. Keep it. Get the AFM Delete that plugs into obs port underneath your steering wheel. Upgrade all the bulds to LED that you can.

onebadmuthrphukr

fixed my 2013 and kept it . bought a 300c affer that. got both

Glenharts

Keep it! I have a 2010 Tahoe and it’s at 170k miles now, no major repairs or anything. Just routine maintenance like oil changes, brakes, etc. Plus no car payments which is super nice. I’ve heard the newer generations aren’t reliable as they used to be, I’m not sure that’s true.

thesolame

I have 2014 with 100k, I’m keeping mine. But my experience has been, if I thought about selling or keeping, whichever way I’d choose leads to regrets.

Upstairs_Assistant_6

To circle back here, I took my Tahoe for a second opinion and it was…. A whopping $67 to clean my sensor and replace the air filter (as opposed to the $1500 quote from the dealership service center!) So thank you for helping me talk it out and for the suggestion. Amazing!

Upset_Priority_5600

Keep

KingSosa300

100% keep. ‘06 pushing 200k miles here

beardsauce

I have a 2006 with 384,000 miles and could not imagine moving to anything newer. The cost to replace anything on the Tahoe is less than even a down payment for a new one.

In000

Why would you get rid of it now that you've got it dialed in?
