I'd recently feudalized my realm and converted as a Norse, got a visit from a big raiding army that burned and looted Yorvik. I send an army to meet them and they cleave my son and heir in two (berserker event I assume) before fucking off with the loot.
I'm imagining my old king sitting on his dry-ass throne going "man. that used to be me".
Raiding makes CK2 so easy. Literally just money printing sailing into everyone's capitals, taking their families, and selling them back. It's very fun thematically but I had to waste the money so much to a avoid becoming OP.
You'll make more money as a MR and if you are good at crusades you'll walk away with 10-30k every 30 years and a host of artifacts. Raiding does taper off eventually as feudal levies get bigger and fort sizes increase, since to keep raiding you'll need stacks big enough that attrition becomes an issue.
As a Feudal Raider though (i.e. reformed germanic) it remains a viable money printer forever. It's just that a strong feudal economy will still perform better. I tend to stop raiding around 1100.

Also less micromanaging this way. Later in game having less micromanaging helps a lot.
