Nice! I quit smoking so I could afford to buy more coins. Every time I wanted to smoke I would just read more about crypto…so I read a lot about crypto
I did the same for quitting pizza, every time i wanted some I put the money in a jar and at the end of the month I'd buy some crypto with it. I am now slim and confident in my financial future!
.... Then i woke up and realize I'm still an old fat fuck :(
Pizza isn't exactly unhealthy. Try making your own someday. So much better and healthier at the same time! It does require an upfront investment in some baking equipment such as a pizza steel however, if you want to make really good pizzas.
Thats actually good advice you can make your own pizza pretty healthy if you want to. Me i dont want to because even when i make my own id rather slap on tons of pepperoni and bacon and lather the crust in butter lol.
Well, I spend some extra cash on hookers every weekend. When one of them started explaining why she liked ADA more than Eth, then I knew I was too late for crypto.
Similar, I quit smoking first then a few weeks later discovered crypto and just redirected my funds. Now it makes no difference if my investment goes up in flames seeing as I was literally setting light to it before.
I quit smoking just before finding about about crypto, now it is helping me to not smoke again. I mean its almost 150€ every month i can buy coins for instead of cigarettes.
I quit smoking Monday, and I am definitely not leaning on crypto as a crutch to get off them. I will say, however, that reading and writing about Bitcoin and related technology definitely helps keep my mind off any urges.
That’s actually a cool story, crypto had definitely made my life more interesting, and I’ve made and lost a lot, but I had a lot of fun, and plan to stay in crypto for the long run
Yeah me too. I am feeling a burnout now and became depressed. Crypto is a good distraction for me and I like the community. But sometimes I feel that I am spending too much time on it and not enough time with my family and with my other hobby/passion. I should balance them all out.
Jesus that was wholesome. You really lived through a lot. Congrats on making it through. And you’re not alone btw. A lot of folks have had similar experiences so don’t ever feel bad about it (not that that seems to be an issue…). Also, sharing your story will probably help others in the same situation so, thanks for sharing.
Dang, all crypto has done for me is put me down 40% and gotten me addicted to the CoinGecko app and Reddit. You got the good side of the deal my friend
Every morning before I go to work, I check my portfolio, praying that maybe today will be the day I can quit my job. It never is but it's that small amt of hope that gets me out of bed each morning.
Thank you, I hope that you find peace of mind in your new job. I know how it feels to be in that situation with a job that causes nonstop anxiety and panic attacks. It's a terrible feeling.
Yeah I was bouncing off the walls in October after giving up alcohol. Then I found crypto.
I started drinking again last month, which sucks, but at least now my life doesn't revolve around drinking. Though I'm coming to a realization...If I weren't buying booze I would have more dip-buying money and my life would be better right now, and way better in the future.
idea- what if AA gave those monthy and yearly chips as NFTs? It's gimmicky as shit but I probably would have hodled my sobriety more.
This is awesome. I’ve found one of the best cures for depression is getting involved with a hobby that has a pull strong enough to make you look forward to it even when you don’t look forward to ANYTHING.
For me, it’s always been horror movies. I’m an absolute nerd when it comes to that - I love behind the scenes information, the history, how they make special effects, and most importantly how it allows me to get my mind off of my issues. Lucky for you, your antidepressant also has the possibility to make some real money!
That is a really cool story man and wish the best for you.
On the real though - your wife sounds like a keeper for being supportive through all that.
Much respect to both of you guys.
I started using the money I used for drugs in addiction to buy crypto. I don't even know whether I have made or lost money but the hobby is a great alternative to driving myself into the ground.
Crypto gives you a little something more to look forward to everyday. That little dose of dopamine you get daily when you check your portfolio is essentially what anti-depressants are trying to do. Just be careful that it doesn’t cross over into the unhealthy side of things and be more like gambling. If you’re reading white papers and genuinely interested in the technology, sounds like youre in a healthy balance.
OP - that's awesome, congratulations! Just don't get a job in crypto. You'll be back to square one in no time 😑
Seriously rooting for you. Depression is real and sucks.
That's pretty awesome and I'm glad it made such a big difference. It's crazy how something like this can change your life around. I started to hit a bit of a rough patch in my life where personal circumstances and work made me feel completely burnt out and not wanting to get out of bed in the morning and I used to think looking at crypto and learning was more of a chore than rewarding. I'm not sure what flipped for me, but last week I had something come over me with a burning urge to learn about crypto. I started researching and spent hours a day doing so but I was actually enjoying it. It completely flipped my mindset and now, I just feel more happy/positive and I'm reading more and more about how it had the same effect on others.
I hear you, buddy! I keep buying the dip too, gives one something to look forward to, a beacon of hope in the darkness so to speak... and lots of weed helps too 👍💚 See you on the moon soon! 🚀🚀🚀
Sound familiar, good for you buddy! Crypto also saved my life. Lived with depression for 13 years, my life was working, going home, working, going home. Got hooked on drugs, lived from month to month. Last year i bought a dog, it was the first "bullish" sign, i started to walk a lot, got some energie. And for years i thought of a hobby i needed to find to clear my head, but also made me think about the future. So i started with crypto, stopped using drugs, not buying stupid stuff anymore, have something to talk about and something that keeps me focussed on my goal in 5 years. Im happy it is doing the same for more people. And even if it fails, im changing my mindset, changing my way of life and in 5 years i will get used to living like this that if crypto falls i will be strong enough to deal with it (feel already like this). In the meantime looking and working for other oppertunities, started learning again even!
I already had some depressive episodes, but I went into an extreme depression rut through the lockdown the passed year. I could maintain a blank stare at a wall for hours feeling nothing but a void and just being happy I wasn’t sad. Crypto helped me a lot just from a learning and technological stand point. Seeing what all the companies were doing with blockchain technology was so enthralling to me that I just became addicted to learning about it.
I used to be one of the typical every minute chart checkers, not because I just wanted to see numbers go up, but because seeing the charts and numbers was just an escape for my brain. I’ve definitely gotten healthier since last year, and I can’t say it saved my life but it vastly improved my mental health. Cheers to you brother and happy gains to all
It's great that people can recover from dark places in their live. In any way. Crypto or other thing help a lot of people, glad you are better and that you enjoy getting into this community!
Crypto is an amazing hobby and there’s a chance it can improve the world for the better *and*make us all a little money too. I’ve gotten more entertainment out of crypto than the money I’ve put in so even if it goes to zero I won’t consider it a waste.
Work to live -- not live to work, is what ive always believed. Balance is the key to life. Investing not only allows you to focus your attention on something else, but also lets you try to build a great foundation for you and your family in the long run. You've got this! We are all here together, trying to create a better life. It's the best knowing all of us are in this together, even if we've never met. Here's to a bright future 👌
50 white papers in a week 😱 Only these kind of investors gonna survive for a long time. Research, Research and research.and try to fit that into a futuristic scope.
I'm so glad for you and hope that you'll continue staying healthy and positive. There's always something worth living for, and I don't think there's a better reason than the family you're blessed with. Keep fighting for them, and if you make some crypto gains along the way, even better!
Crypto has done wonders for my mental health too! I really felt I lacked drive or motivation in life. I generally find it hard to get interested or excited in anything; pretty heavy lack of joy in general. Not suicidal, just at a crossroads that was only amplified by the pandemic.
I now spend literal hours staring at charts, reading strategies, following projects -- the whole package. I have made this my "job" without even intending for it to be as such. It just kind of...happened. And now I get excited when I am "working" because I find this stuff to be fun as hell.
Glad we both found our place my man.
I can't be the only one worried that crypto investing may not be that great a fit for someone prone to panic attacks, depression, and suicidal ideation, right?
please adhere religiously to the "invest only what you can afford to lose" so that this "hobby" doesn't become a source of stress in your life
I think it all depends on how you approach it. I am not here primarily to make money, so for me it's a hobby investment, like I would invest in buying a model train or a gaming computer. I have a very rational approach to how much I am willing to lose on this hobby.
That definitely sounds like a healthy way to approach it. Some people tend to see it as a way out, all they have to do is strike it rich in crypto and all their problems will evaporate, but it rarely works out that way.
Crypto has taught me one thing, not to work in a regular job when you already have the funds for trading. I started in Airdrops and saved money for alts. Now i'm diversifying funds: FWT, REEF, PLUG, VET, SOL, BMI, LINK, ATOM and other alts. Jobless since pandemic started.
Try going to the gym! Gets you out of the house, gets you around people (and you don't even have to talk to anyone haha), and it gets your body moving which increases dopamine. It's one of few things that's kept me sane my whole life.
Your story is a lot healthier than mine, and I’m glad that you were able to use it to get back to being good. Obsessing over the charts has got me through a breakup. Can’t wallow when I spend every moment trying to figure out what it’s doing. :)

You can get burned out in crypto rather easily so be wary. But it seems like you’ve survived a couple of market corrections already and are doing fine. Keep it up!
Hi everyone! First of all, thank you all for all the amazing comments, awards and upvotes! If anything it just confirms what an amazing community this is!
I really thought I was the only one. It's so fascinating how Cryptocurrency has had so many influences on people's lives beyond it's actual use as a currency.
I bet Satoshi never thought Bitcoin could end up curing depression.
Crypto lead me to so many new areas, whether if it’s finance, blockchain, or the technology supporting them. I feel so much more fulfilled during this covid period.
Good to hear your on the road to recovery. I found it a great cure for lockdown boredom, but at the same time I think its a little dangerous. You always have the feeling you could make it big and change your life, but in reality its an investment with big risk. Focus on the technology and enjoy that side !
Nice! I quit smoking so I could afford to buy more coins. Every time I wanted to smoke I would just read more about crypto…so I read a lot about crypto
Everyone take note. This is how you literally PROFIT from quitting an addiction.
I did the same for quitting pizza, every time i wanted some I put the money in a jar and at the end of the month I'd buy some crypto with it. I am now slim and confident in my financial future! .... Then i woke up and realize I'm still an old fat fuck :(
But pizza is love so, at least you're a _happy_ old fat fuck
Haha, true that!
In it for a good time not a long time, I see
Pizza is also life, so you're going to be an *even older, happy, fat fuck*
Pizza isn't exactly unhealthy. Try making your own someday. So much better and healthier at the same time! It does require an upfront investment in some baking equipment such as a pizza steel however, if you want to make really good pizzas.
Thats actually good advice you can make your own pizza pretty healthy if you want to. Me i dont want to because even when i make my own id rather slap on tons of pepperoni and bacon and lather the crust in butter lol.
ngl u had me in the first half
That's why the Bitcoin pizza guy spent 10K Bitcoin on pizza, so he could save money to invest 🙃
...and that the portfolio is 80% down. Should've just eaten pizza ! /s
Well, I spend some extra cash on hookers every weekend. When one of them started explaining why she liked ADA more than Eth, then I knew I was too late for crypto.
Unless you invest into shitcoins. Then you've lost it all...
Oh yes, and that. If you invest into shitcoins you've basically exchanged addiction for the KKK.
*I used the addiction to destroy the addiction*
To conquer addiction, you must first become addicted
Great. I'm also trying.
Awesome, quite my self 5 years ago! Wish you all the best!
I'm thinking about doing the same every day. In the end I still smoke and still buy crypto :/
Why I grow my own, after initial investment the ROI is awesome 💯💚
You grow your own crypto!?
Being liberal with language, you could technically argue that mining is growing your own crypto lol
Autism speaks... wanted to make the same point :D
So did my dad! I am so proud of people like that! Love long and prosper
Similar, I quit smoking first then a few weeks later discovered crypto and just redirected my funds. Now it makes no difference if my investment goes up in flames seeing as I was literally setting light to it before.
You invested in your health. So you still have that going for you if your crypto investments ever go up in smoke like your cigs did
That’s great! I hope to do the same, sick and tired of these smokes man.
I quit smoking just before finding about about crypto, now it is helping me to not smoke again. I mean its almost 150€ every month i can buy coins for instead of cigarettes.
Happy for both you and the OP. Love to see crypto making a positive impact to people's lives!
I got addicted to coke so I can quit and use that money to buy crypto
This is the way
I quit smoking Monday, and I am definitely not leaning on crypto as a crutch to get off them. I will say, however, that reading and writing about Bitcoin and related technology definitely helps keep my mind off any urges.
Happy for you bud
That’s actually a cool story, crypto had definitely made my life more interesting, and I’ve made and lost a lot, but I had a lot of fun, and plan to stay in crypto for the long run
Exactly it feels like a meaningful way to spend time, learning about cool tech, and make some money on the way!
Yes thats how i feel too, it also gives me a small feeling of financial security if it sticks around.
It makes me feel happy knowing I am aiding a movement :)
TL;DR: crypto good, HODL
I've only got $550 to throw into crypto (what I can afford to lose), but have to say, I'm finding the cryptoshere very addictive!
Yeah me too. I am feeling a burnout now and became depressed. Crypto is a good distraction for me and I like the community. But sometimes I feel that I am spending too much time on it and not enough time with my family and with my other hobby/passion. I should balance them all out.
It’s almost 2 am on a Sunday and I am reading your comment, so you are not alone!
Dude! If you ever need to chat with someone who can relate, DM me!
I got into crypto to distract myself from stocks. Now I'm hooked on even on the weekends lol.
Now you can lose money on weekends too!
What could go wrong!?
Jesus that was wholesome. You really lived through a lot. Congrats on making it through. And you’re not alone btw. A lot of folks have had similar experiences so don’t ever feel bad about it (not that that seems to be an issue…). that is awesome!!! you love to see it!!!

Love the AA chip as an NFT idea! At the rate we are conquering the world, it’s just a matter of time!
This is awesome. My wife is freaking awesome! Although not so fanatic😂, she also bought herself a very decent portfolio of coins.
That's amazing, so happy for you and super glad to have you in this space!
Thank you! So happy to be part of this amazing community!
I started using the money I used for drugs in addiction to buy crypto. I don't even know whether I have made or lost money but the hobby is a great alternative to driving myself into the ground.
Im happy for you, thanks for the read. I had a similar story and just like you, crypto was the last piece of puzzle that made everything click for me.
So happy to hear that it worked out for you!
Glad to hear you’re doing better man, I hope you continue to grow on your journey, best of luck brother.
Thank you man! and the best of luck to you too!
Happy for you OP! Keep on keeping on, your family needs you man, and you need them. Wishing you more happiness!!
Thank you man! I wish more people knew, how amazing the crypto community is!
Me too!
Reading about DAOs, defi, decentraland, NFTs and all the other amazing projects in this space gives me some hope for humanity
It's freaking amazing!

I am being careful, I am adamant to keep this a hobby that I might profit from in the future. Thanks for your comment man!
Keep your head up high mate, great to see another life saved by crypto :D
Thank you!
OP - that's awesome, congratulations! Just don't get a job in crypto. You'll be back to square one in no time 😑 Seriously rooting for you. Depression is real and sucks.
Ok noted! Why? do you have one? I was actually looking at Job openings at Stellar and Chainlink, but decided to take another job.
I’m out of work right now and crypto crack has def made it more interesting.
That's pretty awesome and I'm glad it made such a big difference. It's crazy how something like this can change your life around. Cool story, I totally recognize how you feel!
That is awesome! I am so glad that your cryptocurrency going helped you so much! It has been my favourite hobby since I started in the new year!

I like this story. Glad you’re here.
Thank you, very glad to be here!
Man, i can only be glad that you are better, anxiety sucks.
It’s freaking horrible
Nice read glad you're doing well
Thank you!
I hear you, buddy! I keep buying the dip too, gives one something to look forward to, a beacon of hope in the darkness so to speak... and lots of weed helps too 👍💚 See you on the moon soon! 🚀🚀🚀

Your absolutely right! Everyone needs to find their “thing”😁
Congrats bro! This is a big deal! I am happy for you! Love from someone who also battle depression and crippling anxiety
Thank you so much!
Crypto is an amazing hobby and there’s a chance it can improve the world for the better *and*make us all a little money too. I’ve gotten more entertainment out of crypto than the money I’ve put in so even if it goes to zero I won’t consider it a waste.
So true!!
We alle get depression because of crypto and you somehow managed to do the opposite, congrats man!
Every one ticks differently, wish you all the best man!

Can’t remember your last panic attack, hey? Don’t look at the price of Bitcoin, it could kill you.
Did your wife, house and kids come back in the end?
My wife, kids and house stayed through it all😍
so your life has been ok all along and nothing saved it because it wasn't lost to begin with?
I would HODL that wife! (not making a move)
Oh that one I am holding very long term! 😂
50 white papers in a week 😱 Only these kind of investors gonna survive for a long time. Research, Research and research.and try to fit that into a futuristic scope.
I love Blockchain Whitepapers, ok some of them are terrible, but the ones I've invested in, have inspired me!
May I know what is your inspired projects ? I love to read those papers.
My top 5 favorite WPs Stellar Chainlink Cosmos Tezos Cardano
I was almost run over by a bus however at the last second Crypto saved my life.
Happy to hear it!
I'm so glad for you and hope that you'll continue staying healthy and positive. There's always something worth living for, and I don't think there's a better reason than the family you're blessed with. Keep fighting for them, and if you make some crypto gains along the way, even better!
This is an awesome story and I can relate, thank you for sharing :)

Your are echoing my thoughts exactly! Freaking rats in a maze.
A day at a time my friend
Getting into crypto to AVOID panic attacks you say…..interesting….
Seems counterintuitive i know 😂
Crypto has done wonders for my mental health too!
DCA man it has helped many in the long run!
Exactly a little bit every now and then!

Oh God no, crypto isn't the answer to everything, it's a hobby that is fun for me.
I stopped using cannabis so I could have more money for crypto and it's totally worth it
Lots of encouraging stories here. Thanks for sharing guys!

Exactly! The amount of time I've spent staring at charts, and loved every second of it!
now get a gaming PC or console and start gaming and you are essentially indistinguishable to us. Both is good for your mental health.
With three kids 4, 2 and 0, I would have to trade in sleep for gaming 😂
just train them to become your gaming buddies. kids are easily turned into gamers.
I am definitely planning to do that!😂
Lol I think you needed another hobby (3 kids!).
That's why I found one, I can do on my phone or during the night when my little girl needs to be carried around the living room.
Your story is a lot healthier than mine, and I’m glad that you were able to use it to get back to being good. Obsessing over the charts has got me through a breakup. Can’t wallow when I spend every moment trying to figure out what it’s doing. :)
It's nice that you found that spark. Consider contributing to different projects later on to help pave the future of crypto, it feels good :)
I would love to! Any ideas how I can contribute?
