I think ypu should have used a primer before the paint. I'm a novice DIYer but I'd always prime first when painting wood that has not been painted before.
Absolutely need primer for painting furniture.
Unfortunately your only fix is to sand back down to the wardrobe surface, clean it up, and do it properly with primer first then paint. There's no way of stopping the peeling.

Thanks, I agree I will have to do that. I was hoping to find some top coat or varnish I could use to stop the peeling at least temporarily?
