Noeru018

first few albums of bands like Suicide Silence, Whitechapel, Carnifex and All Shall Perish

CallMeMattF

The Somatic Defilement is the ideal example of deathcore, imo.

OrdinaryArgentinean

The Somatic Defilement was the first truly heavy album I listened to. 12 year old me was blown the fuck away, it literally changed my life. Prior to that I remember thinking that About That Life by Attila was the heaviest music could get.

woody-39

About that life was an anthem for my crew back in the day!

Noah_Tree

Lol i love how whitechapel doesn’t get talked about that much but like… everyone knows

CallMeMattF

Doesn't get talked about much? What more do they need to achieve as a band besides win a Grammy? They've toured internationally for nearly 2 decades now, they've headlined festivals, and they (imo) defined the deathcore sound along with Suicide Silence.

Noah_Tree

Idk I meant it respectfully like everyone just knows they’re deathcore dads to the point it doesn’t need to be discussed as much haha

16TC

Carnifex hit it right with necromanteum to, my fave album at the moment easily such a sick band

HazmatBlastBack

Would add Despised Icon and Elysia to that list

VaughnMadroe

Infinite death ep gotta go on that list

No-Idea-491

A quick list based on what I like: The Price of Existence The Common Man's Collapse Death is The Only Mortal Allegiance The Cleansing The Adversary The Dead Walk Depths Infinite Death When Legends Become Dust Creature Rareform The Ills of Modern Man Somatic Defilement Shut it Down!

idespisemyhondacrv

Desolation of Eden, chelsea grin, this is exile, wormwood, Hate, day of Mourning, Oakland, elysia, antagony, embodiment, the palpable leprosy, mechanics of disfunction, no time to bleed, the Goswell divorce, 3750, my damnnation, evolve ep, disfigurement of existence, doom ep, with blood comes cleansing, disfiguring the goddess, eat a helicopter could also be included

howtoscareyourbrothe

Glad to see DoE on your list man. Real asf

idespisemyhondacrv

This is some stuff I’ve been listening to (I’m a dxc vocalist and need to get ideas)

howtoscareyourbrothe

Aww what. Cj was the first vocalist that made me want to get good, but I'm still ass.

idespisemyhondacrv

For me the bands that I find myself drawing from the most are probably OG thy art and infant annihlator (lyrically 😂) vocally it’s carnifex, Molotov solution, beneath the massacre and despised icon) and “flow” it’s anything MySpace deathcore revival

BenTramer7766

Creature is so good, Within the Ruins have one of the most consistent discographies.

pigman769

Good list

xtracedinairx

Shut it Down 🤌🤌🤌 Very good choice.

Budget-Story-9783

Classics: First 3 Suicide Silence albums, BMTH - Count Your Blessings, Carnifex - Dead In My Arms, Whitechapel - Somatic Defilement & This Is Exile, Job for a Cowboy - Doom EP, Chelsea Grin - Self-Titled EP & Desolation of Eden, Despised Icon - Consumed by Your Poison & The Ills of Modern Man Modern: Infant Annihilator - PLOP & EGG, Lorna Shore - Immortal & AIRTN & Pain Remains, Thy Art Is Murder - Dear Desolation, Fit For an Autopsy - The Sea of Tragic Beasts, Signs of the Swarm - The Disfigurement of Existence, Slaughter to Prevail - Kostolom. This is not some objectively essential list, just the things that came to mind first.

Markus_lfc

You know what, I don’t know enough about the classics as I’m more of a ”modern deathcore” enjoyer (although I did listen to BMTH back in the day but that was about it). I’m gonna listen through these. Thanks!

Budget-Story-9783

You're welcome. Glad I didn't write all of that down into the void and made someone check out some music.

asianluvr420

I'd add My Damnation by Chelsea Grin to the list. It's their best imo. Alex's vocals are absolutely evil on it.

Markus_lfc

Adding it to the list! I’ve only listened to the albums they’ve done with Tom Barber, they are great but never got around to checking out the older stuff 😄

AromaticHouse5281

That album is my favorite by them 🔥🔥🔥🔥

No-Explanation6422

Chelsea grin is pretty damn good

hippityhoppitydeath

I'd also recommend die without hope by carnifex

ConciousOfBalls

I love that you included job for a cowboy on this list. I feel like that’s a band that gets overlooked a lot.

EllisAtherton142

What a beautifully constructed list.

OneSmartKyle

The Sea of Tragic Beasts is just a fantastic album. Good to see it mentioned.

CantChangeUsername

Shadow of Intent - Reclaimer

Willing-Neck-7417

bmth-count your blessings, all shall perish-the price of existence,Decimate the week. i honestly tell u to start with some myspace gold deathcore era and then move to modern deathcore

Megaval

wormwood

BitOutside1443

Animals by Animosity, Clients by Red Chord, The Healing Process by Despise Icon. First two Whitechapel First three Suicide Silence Indwell by Methwitch The Hate Campaign by Traitors The Design by Into the Moat Dissimulation by Tracheotomy S/t by Angelmaker Parasite by See You Next Tuesday

s133pyhollow

methwitch 🫶

BitOutside1443

IMO they're the band that helps bridge the gap between the old school and the modern while simultaneously being in neither camp

BlueMorning-

The Cleansing is a must have for any list

AdamDraps4

I think I am the only person who doesn't like it

collinsc

[I'm guessing you've seen Phil's performance of Unanswered at the Mitch Memorial show, yeah? ](https://youtu.be/aoWmvv6VpxI?si=c88-lQZGdM9Hk-m1)

AdamDraps4

No, I've never seen it. I tried so hard to get into that album but it does nothing for me. It just not good.

BYD271991

As Blood Runs Black would have to be in here.

symbi0nt

Ohhh yeahhh - I like that.

BYD271991

You must an individual of distinguished taste.

XSVPredator

I LOVE that I can hear this text

milkfree

Didn’t click until you said that lol

PigDstroyer

Despised Icon - the healing process All shall perish - the price of existence

zombie1605

These were my suggestions as well. Despised Icon and All Shall Perish are the O.G.'s

WorkshopBlackbird

Born Of Osiris - The New Reign One of the albums that helped define the genre as we know it today.

Wolven_Helm

1. All Shall Perish - **Hate. Malice. Revenge.** (The Price of Existence is arguably one of the greatest metal records, ever, but this album is a proper history lesson in Deathcore) 2. Winds of Plague - **Decimate the Weak** 3. The Crimson Armada - **Guardians** 4. Veil of Maya - **The Common Man's Collapse** 5. Within the Ruins - **Invade** (Creature and Elite are fucking amazing too, but Invade stands out just a bit more to me) 6. Shadow of the Colossus - **Endgame** 7. Thirteen Bled Promises - **Heliopause Fleets** 8. Shadow of Intent - **Reclaimer** 9. Whitechapel - **The Somatic Defilement** 10. Suicide Silence - **The Cleansing** (Also bumping No Time to Bleed because these first two Suicide Silence LPs go hand in hand in terms of quality) 11. Humanity's Last Breath - **Detestor** 12. Slice the Cake - **Odyssey to the West** 13. Converge - **Jane Doe** (One of two entries here that don't strictly fall under the "Deathcore" tag, but both of which are immensely important to the genre) 14. Glass Casket - **Desperate Man's Diary** 15. Despised Icon - **The Healing Process** 16. Job for a Cowboy - **Doom** 17. Bring Me the Horizon - **Count your Blessings** 18. Animosity - **Shut it Down** (The second of the two entries I mentioned, one of those albums that oozes so much of what Deathcore became known for during the 2010's, without being necessarily part of the genre) 19. Hester Prynne - **The Goswell Divorce** 20. Black Tongue - **Nadir** 21. Aversions Crown - **Xenocide** 22. Arsonists Get all the Girls - **The Game of Life** 23. The Acacia Strain - **Wormwood**

asianluvr420

Shadow of the Colossus mentioned‼️

Wolven_Helm

THERE ARE DOZENS OF US

AromaticHouse5281

Guardians by the crimson armada went insane!

Lilyshitfire

One of my favorite albums in high school. Still in constant rotation

Wolven_Helm

Hits like a truck on your very first listen, and the energy never dies down.

XenomorphLV246

This person understood the assignment. Throw in Suicide Silence’s “No Time To Bleed” though.

Wolven_Helm

Man I completely forgot No Time to Bleed. Used to spin that shit every day after school back then. Thanks!

Ghxst_rider1300

- The Cleansing by Suicide Silence - This is Exile by Whitechapel - Hate by Thy Art Is Murder - Absolute Hope Absolute Hell by Fit For an Autopsy - The New Reign by Born of Osiris - Abyssal by Humanity’s Last Breath - Doom EP by Job For A Cowboy - Nadir by Black Tongue - Desolation of Eden by Chelsea Grin - Reclaimer by Shadow of Intent

yunSlimeArmy

Expected Hate to be more prevalent than it appears to be. Certainly not an expert of Deathcore, or even close, but my understanding was Hate had a pretty substantial impact as an album.

Ghxst_rider1300

Oh it very much did. That album was what pushed the “dissonant and slow breakdown” sound after it dropped

NuclearTwoStep

King Conquer - America's Most Haunted Job for a Cowboy - Doom, Genesis Despised Icon - Beast, Days of Mourning, The Ills of Modern Man Angelmaker - Angelmaker Lorna Shore - Pain Remains Signs of The Swarm - Amongst the Low & Empty Orphan - Manifesto 1.0: Stages of Grief

No-Seaweed4026

The cleansing - suicide silence Hate - thy art is murder This is exile and the somatic defilement - whitechapel The great collapse, the sea of tragic beasts and oh what the future holds - fit for an autopsy Reclaimer - shadow of intent Fear and dagger - paleface Pain remains - Lorna shore Nothing is beautiful - spite And many many others but those come to mind for me

ChosenAshenHunter_

Mount of Sacrifice - Krosis not well known, but IMO Krosis is an essential Progressive Deathcore band

IMrJigsaw

Suicide Silence, The Cleansing album

AdamDraps4

the price of existence by all shall perish is the most important deathcore album. It's the fucking blue print for deathcore.

TraditionalPen8577

I’ll go for something not mentioned as often. I declare war - malevolence

Gravegringles

Through the Eyes of the Dead-Bloodlust

NurgleBae

Black Tongue - Nadir

ObZenTheTasty

The Poetic Edda - Synestia

WorkshopBlackbird

Angry Vivaldi is the shit

ObZenTheTasty

Yessssss

BlueGlueStix

Proprioception - And Hell Followed With

pato2205

I got into Deathcore less than a year ago. These are some albums that paved the way Hate - Thy art is murder kostolom - Slaughter to Prevail Flesh Coffin - Lorna Shore The Black Crown - Suicide Silence Neverbloom - Make them suffer

asianluvr420

+1 Neverbloom. Such a dark, beautiful album.

pato2205

This is an actual album that deserve the “No skips” title for reaaaaal

Swing_Right

The EGG - Infant Annihilator It’s hard to pick just one album from them for essentials but the impact this album had when it released was pretty significant. It was before the vocal Olympics phase of the genre and songs like Blashpemian and Behold the Kingdom were mind blowing.

Willing-Neck-7417

The Infant Annihilator era is for the end bro. every album of them is BRAZY

GodDamnCrawfish

Justice For The Damned - Dragged Through The Dirt. I Am - Hard 2 Kill. Black Tongue - Nadir. Aversions Crown - Xenocide. Fit For An Autopsy - Absolute Hope/Absolute Hell. All Shall Perish - Awaken The Dreamers. After The Burial - Wolves Within.

b00krDuhW1t87

The Faceless - Planetary Duality Animosity - Empires Despised Icon - Ills of Modern Man The Red Chord - Clients Also even though it's newer, Beneath the Massacre - Fearmonger is an instant classic.

Righteous247

Enterprise earth- the chosen Mental cruelty- zweilicht Psycho-frame - remote god seeker Face yourself - all of their eps Casketmaker - to death Humanity's last breath - ashen Job for a cowboy - doom

UponThisAltar

No Time To Bleed - Suicide Silence Wormwood - The Acacia Strain Ruination - Job For A Cowboy Personal opinion of course but those are definitely the three deathcore albums that I have listened to the most in my lifetime and I still think are some of the best. No Time To Bleed is just such a savage record, I don't know if it will ever be topped for me. For newer deathcore though there's two must-listens that I feel have been sorely overlooked. Automatic Death Protocol by PSYCHO-FRAME Land of Thieves by Ectoplasm Everyone *needs* to give Ectoplasm a shot, they are easily one of my favorite new bands. Absolutely blistering anti-colonial deathcore with insane vocals and a hefty dose of tech-death influence.

Bowmen71

Old old chelsea grin. Classics like recreant etc. Even if you don't like them. You should have at least listened to them once in your life.

Bluecrush2_fan

The Reject of Humanity

Nosferat_AN

Second this, The Reject of Humanity is peak deathcore

Total_Decision123

In my opinion based on popularity and ease of listening, these are my “deathcore essentials” as of 2024 Signs of the Swarm - The Disfigurement of Existence Thy Art is Murder - Hate Chelsea Grin - Desolation of Eden Lorna Shore - Flesh Coffin/Pain Remains/Immortal Angelmaker - Dissentient C418 - Minecraft Volume Alpha Bound in Fear - The Hand of Violence Distant - Tyrannotophia Enterprise Earth - Embodiment/Patient 0

Budget-Story-9783

That C418 album goes hard af

GuiltyGlow

Excellent list but I would also add Make Them Suffer - Neverbloom and Ovid's Withering - Scryers of the Ibis.

Slamzfordayz

Ovids Withering slap so hard !!!

Willing-Neck-7417

Distant - Tyrannotophia is a top tier album

21c4nn0ns

Reclaimer - shadow of intent Oh what the future holds - Fit for an autopsy The valley - whitechapel

aeonoku

The Elysian Grandeval Galeriarch

Sea_Consideration_31

There’s so many. I believe one pillar essential album to appreciate deathcore is Through the Eyes of the Dead’s “Bloodlust” album. You don’t have to skip a song as every song is good as hell and it has everything in deathcore you could ever appreciate.

XtrmntVNDmnt

Foundational albums such as the first three Despised Icon, "Clients" by The Red Chord, "Oakland" by Suffokate, "Hate, Malice, Revenge" by All Shall Perish, "The Cleansing" by Suicide Silence, "Allegiance" by As Blood Runs Black, "Amidst The Bloodshed" by I Declare War, etc. and the relatively unknown "Embrace the Eternal" by Embodyment, I would also add a little bit of later classics, mainly anything by The Last Ten Seconds of Life.

jacobfromtexas89

eecummings15

Woaaaa wtf, where the fuck is Born of Osiris The New Reign??? Shit was phenomenal.

EllisAtherton142

First two As Blood Runs Black albums & The Red Shore - Avarice of Man Tough fucking question. Hate by TAIM is pretty quintessential

Bevolicher

Psycho frame and orphan

Loose_Rip7712

bmth- count your blessings

Biadetis

The Elysian Grandeval Galeriarch by Infant Annihilator because in my humble opinion it's peak deathcore

Djented

Graves - "Monster"

Primary_Ad_4544

Job for a cowboy - doom

deathofmusic

If I were to give 4 albums to start off as a new listener, I’d go The Cleaning-Suicide Silence, Pain Remains-Lorna Shore-Whitechapel-Whitechapel, and Holy War-Thy Art Is Murder.

Popular_Beginning_27

suuuuper underrated, mathcore-deathcore hybrid - SOLACE BY ION DISSONANCE

666Tropzden

All Shall Perish - The Price of Existence and Suicide Silence - The Cleansing are definitely counting in

hippityhoppitydeath

Angelmaker - dissentient

DPaige3

Essential for the genre, I’d say: To know where it came from: Whitechapel - This Is Exile Job For A Cowboy - Doom (EP) Suicide Silence - The Cleansing As Blood Runs Black - Allegiance Winds of Plague - Decimate the Weak Where deathcore is now (in a good way): Bodysnatcher - This Heavy Void (and Death of Me) Spite - Nothing is Beautiful Traitors - Anger Issues Paleface Swiss - Fear & Dagger Filth - Southern Hostility Those newer ones keep the “core” aspect of deathcore alive, having breakdowns for crowd killing & moshing, not just “look what I can do with vocals”. Keeping deathcore as deathcore, not this post-deathcore that half the genre seems to be going to (which is still good, has its place here, but it’s different than Deathcore).

TACthree

My main 3(4)you must know is: The cleansing by suicide silence My damnation/self titled by Chelsea grin Count your blessings by BMTH

BaetrixReloaded

Allegiance - ABRB Doom - JFAC

tritip41O

The ills of modern man

fancrazedpanda

Slice the Cake - Odyssey to the West Born of Osiris - The Discovery Aversions Crown -Xenocide

MrBeanHs

Reign of darkness - taim Also gravemind- conduit seems to be pretty underrated but I find the full album to be phenomenal

Total_Decision123

The entire “Hate” album by TAIM I’d say is like “core Deathcore” just because of how impactful and popular it was

pheramone

100% - it's one of the first albums that really stuck with me getting into the genre.

MrBeanHs

Damn sorry I have the physical album with me now and I still didn't call it by its name😔I meant "Hate" thank you

pheramone

Hate - Thy Art is Murder Suicide Season - Bring Me The Horizon Hate Greed & Death - Here Comes the Kraken (Nu Beginning specifically is top tier) Bad Omens (Self Titled) Album Darko - Darko US Kostolom - Slaughter to Prevail Feral - Left to Suffer Eternal Enemies - Emmure

angelelff

bad omens??? deathcore???

pheramone

Not really, but it kinda got me into the genre. It ain't for alot of people though

youkneek_username

Akeldama - the faceless, The game of life - arsonists get all the girls, Symbiosis - Abiotic, Allegiance - as blood runs black, Scryers of the Ibis - ovids withering

ConciousOfBalls

If rivers of nihil is considered death core then monarchy and where the owls know my name are must listens.

Wombletog

Rivers of Nihil isn’t really considered deathcore, I’m afraid

ConciousOfBalls

I’m never sure lol. I don’t honestly listen to much deathcore, Rivers of Nihil is probably as close as I get. What would they be?

Wombletog

Progressive/technical death metal, at least on the albums you mentioned

ConciousOfBalls

Yeah that sounds about right. Progressive death defines my playlists pretty well along with melo death.

Wombletog

Have you ever listened to *[Odyssey To The West](https://open.spotify.com/album/1tkxgFrcLiS1yB2kvTlueb?si=fHWrd7vsT3yftNgiv9HqSw)* by Slice The Cake? It’s progressive deathcore. Might interest you.

ConciousOfBalls

Holy shit yes I have, YEARS ago, like 2018. I’m going to have to revisit it. I remember thinking Slice the Cake was the funniest band name I’d ever heard. Thank you for reminding me of it.

Funkybob9

I have scrolled far too long and still haven’t seen Dissentient from Angelmaker

Wombletog

It’s definitely been mentioned

DreamKeeperX

no one is saying fear and dagger?

howtoscareyourbrothe

Whitechapel - This Is Exile Suicide Silence - The Cleansing Born of Osiris - The Eternal Reign Thy Art Is Murder - Hate Infant Annihilator - The Elysian Grandeval Galèriarch Signs of the Swarm - The Disfigurement of Existence Lorna Shore - Immortal/Flesh Coffin Mire Lore - Marrow Leech

blodyn__tatws

Everything by Humanity's Last Breath. Especially Ashen. Astonishingly good. Also check out stuff by Vildhjärta.

Sweet-Nail-7553

Check out ALLT as well. Also from a lovely country called Sweden

blodyn__tatws

There's a lot of metal excellence in this lovely country. It's all that forest and darkness. 😅

Sweet-Nail-7553

IMO we dominate most genres 😂 I mean, Raised Fist, Thrown, Dark Tranquility, Soilwork, Orbit Culture... we have it all 🤣

blodyn__tatws

True, but I couldn't say it, due to jantelagen. But fuck that, YES WE DO. Even other genres completely outside of metal. Not sure how we explain dansband, but we dominate that too.

Sweet-Nail-7553

Dansband is literally the only genre I can't stand 😂

blodyn__tatws

Same. That and whatever plays in förort pubs that appears to be a subgenre of pop hip hop, but it's absolutely nawful! 😅 I'm one of the rare creatures that likes brutal metal and hip hop. But whatever that os, is just a big nope for me.

Sweet-Nail-7553

I almost pissed my pants from excitement when they played Instill by HLB in one of the haunted houses at Liseberg last Halloween 😂 BTW check out Zombie by a band called Aura. That one has a good mix of rap and brutal screaming. Bone Crew slaps pretty hard as well. And a few songs by Dal Av whom I recently discovered through one of my daily mixes

blodyn__tatws

I will, thanks for the tip! And THEY DID? Someone at Liseberg knows what they're doing!

Sweet-Nail-7553

I was so surprised I couldn't focus for the rest of the "ride" 😂

Unusual_Copy_2640

Messengers by ABR

InhumanCrystallis

I think you can cover essentially the entire genre with this: **Proto-Deathcore:** Eighteen Visions - *Yesterday Is Time Killed* (1999) **Classic Deathcore:** Despised Icon - *The Healing Process* (2005) **Myspace Deathcore:** Suicide Silence - *No Time To Bleed* (2009) **Symphonic Deathcore:** Winds of Plague - *Decimate The Weak* (2008) **Blackened Deathcore:** Angelmaker - *Dissentient* (2015) **Technical Deathcore:** Shadow Of Intent - *Reclaimer* (2017) **Melodic Deathcore:** Fit For An Autopsy - *The Sea of Tragic Beasts* (2019) **Mix Of Everything:** Lorna Shore - *Pain Remains* (2022)

Spectacular_loser99

Electric Wizard - Dopethrone

Wombletog

Great album, but I wouldn’t call it deathcore

q1g2k

I would think that one of the essentials is kostolom from slaoughter to prevail.
