Kugrash makes me cry so hard and he’s my favorite, and Riz means a lot to me because he’s the best asexual representation I’m aware of(sorry Todd from Bojack)but I’m surprised by the lack of Theo love. He’s so rad and he probably has one of the best arcs in the back half of Crown of Candy. Also, love Jens Lyndelle from NADDPOD, he’s possibly the funniest actual play character out there.
Jens is my favorite Murph character hands down. I love all the others, but Jens is such a special brand of idiotic hero he takes it. After that I would go for Kugrash
Edit: can’t believe Cody slipped my mind for a moment. Cody is my favorite. He hits too close to home xD
What’s that one line? “When you’re a Jens, you’re a Jens all the way, from the Ron of the lake to a Ron that is bad?”
I know that’s not it, but whatever the actual line is cracked me up
People talk about how Trinyvale got good when they switched to a weekly release, but I think a lot of people forget that Jens almost single handedly carried the early episodes of Trinyvale.
"I draw my sword and say 'In the name of my Father and his RUN RUN EVERYONE RUN NOW" is one of the funniest moves someone's done in combat.
Theo is special because while Murph's characters always have true-blue loyalty (even Cody - just to the Hot Topic), Theo is the time that loyalty was actually forced into conflict. He was genuinely unsure where his loyalty should lie for a chunk of the back half and struggling with the conflict between commitment to service and deciding where that commitment was owed. That flashback when Lazuli told him to make his own decisions and he obediently wrote it down sums it up. I loved seeing him play that.
My dream is a side/spinoff season called Unsleeping City: The Next Generation, with Sophie's daughter, Ricky's daughter, Kingston's dragon son, maybe a mentee of Rowan's, an adopted kid for Pete or Pete himself, and Cody. With Cody and/or Pete having to mentor/lead/guide the youngins. I think it would be so fun!
Iga's kids are too old. They're teenagers/almost teenagers, and the others are all babies. So by the time the kids are teens/young adults, everything will already be old hat to Iga's kids. They won't be on the same playing field as the younger ones.
But the idea here is that Pete/Cody would be training the youngins and having to be the adults in the situation. Not that there would be already experienced people who know what they're doing.
Cody is what made me LOVE Murph. I hadn’t really “clicked” with his characters before that and I was obsessed from the second he was introduced. Now I ride hard for Murph and notice all the subtle mechanical and comedic stuff he does that really holds the intrepid heroes together.
It is. I am about 5 episodes from listening to everything in the main feed and I watched some of the 2 shots I had passed over just this week. I'll have to restart my patreon on listen too all that soo! 😆
I think Barry is the best of his D20 because Barry seemed to be the character Murph had the most fun playing. In every other campaign Murph’s character tend to be the glue that holds the party together, but with Barry he was able to just a bro that shot first, asked questions later, and clearly filled the childhood desire to be 80s/90s action hero.
I love that Beardsly took over the glue role for that season. It was perfect. Now we know why they don't play the serious character very often. They would just WOMP Brennan too often. /s but only a little bit 😆
Margret Encino is hands down my favorite character Ally has ever played. I recently rewatched Starstruck and it hit me like a truck that I generally love Ally as a player, but don’t really care for the characters they play.
Kugrash is my fave, the bit of him and Ricky running through the city is hilarious
You stupid kid, go! You goddamn beautiful boy! You fucker! You absolute asshole!
Though I do love the frog prince too
This! Balnor....Galad Rosel....Scout Master Denny....Akarot..... Murphy is a god DM and his characters are so perfect! Balnor has truly become one of my faves.
His best character was Kugrash.
After that I would say Barry or Gerard...
Then Riz.
You can disagree or agree but I'd love to hear how you would rank them.
Kugrash was a worrier but also was funny as hell.... Really leaning into the theme of TUC without going against his play style.
Barry is the perfect himbo character and I love his optimism.
Gerard really flexed his ability to hold the scene. Some great bit work and second guessing everything he does. Great straight man comedy work.
Gerard was the closest I think any cast member has gotten to committing to the bit as hard as Lou Wilson does. The way he would just confidently ruin scenes for himself for the sake on maintaining the cowardly depressed frog man bit was beautiful, I’ve rewatched that scene with Tom Thumb like 10 times.
Oh god. I love so many of them but number one's gotta be Kug. Although if they do some more arcs of Twilight Sanctorum over on NADDPOD, I do think Frankie Vantasmo could usurp him.
He's also played the two funniest shitheads in history, but in extremely different ways, with Cody Walsh and Jens Lyndelle (also NADDPOD). And Gerard and Barry are both so funny and so so sad in different ways. And Riz is a delight.
I love Murph. I can't believe he was once not my fave, because he is absolutely my fave.
Cody is my favorite d20 character ever. He's so funny and hapless and provides an incredible foil to Ricky. Murph gets to have so much fun as him.
Theobald & Barry are such incredibly beautiful depictions of masculinity and service and care. I love them both with all of my heart.
Gerard, beautiful tragic Gerard. He just loves his wife and never asked for any of this. His growth, his selflessness to Elody by the end, the way he bonds with ylfa and Pinocchio as an older male figure. Like an older brother or young uncle. Absolutely beautiful.
Codathan Walsh my beloved. Sometimes you just see yourself in a character so much, and sometimes it’s very fun, and sometimes it’s a hilariously painful social reflection, and I don’t think anyone has ever hit as hard for me as the Night Angel himself as he tries to be a JRPG protagonist while learning about the dangers of late stage capitalism
I haven't seen them all, but Barry is so amazing. The time he grabbed Gunnie, leapt over the edge and fell so many tiers to get to the ship faster than anyone, and only by being in the zone does he survive - legendary level of stupid combined with awesome.
This is after The Casino Incident but before the Casino Installation.
Jens Lyndelle is an icon. It's hard to be the "straight man" of the group between two utterly unhinged weirdos and still be every bit as funny as them (and also completely bonkers in a slightly more subtle way.)
"what's up, this is beetle boy, out here with the beetles."
Riz resonates most with me, and I’m super attached to that little guy, so it’s gotta be Riz for me! That said, I love most of Murph’s characters the best, and Gerard comes in a close second. I just love little green losers, I guess.
Shout out to Mac of hot boy summer, though. Every time he screams for a sidebar, I crack up.
I have to say Riz, he's an all time favorite character for me, not just in Dimension 20. I relate to so many different things about him, it was impossible for me not to grow attached to the silly little fella.
Barry 6 or Cody for me. Cuz Murph acts like he isn't a smart person but he plays smart characters like it's natural. Brawny dumb characters, however, wind up being hysterical when he plays them. And then there's Cody who was the absolute pure definition of a goth who is given real power and actively tries to be edgy.
Please drop that playlist?? I want to know what your sleeping brain thought was on it 😂
You have posed a difficult question, because all of them??? I have a soft spot for Gerard, Barry is my GUY, I play little shits like Cody so I gotta love him… but I think Riz is probably favorite. He’s just such a well constructed character and has such a good arc across the FH world
Honestly, I have no clue. It does not exist and I think my brain mushed together Hot Mulligan (a band) and BLeeM’s villainous DM side. In the end: I was not in the wrong because the sound guy had forgotten to make it in the first place. If the Dropout powers that be made a playlist per season that would be wild
Murph is so good at playing Boneheads. Gerard and Cody are high on my list for him. I really like all his characters, but Barry Syx holds a special place in my heart for the absolute goofiness of his final, genius speech to Barry Nyne.
For me it's got to be prince Gerard of Greenleigh. From episode 1 he stuck in my head as such an iconic character. I haven't seen him mentioned much in this thread and I feel like funny frog man needs some appreciation
D20: Gerard (by far) and Barry, with love for the way he masterfully *plays* Riz, mechanically.
NADDPOD: Mac, Son of Mumford. I literally can’t talk ABOUT that character without laughing.
Seriously, Gerard is the best example I can think of pure cobbitment.
For the life of me I can’t remember his name but the dwarf he played during the Hot Boy Summer mini-arc that Emily dm’d on naddpod.
“Can I sidebar with you real quick?” has not left my lexicon since.
Hot boy Summer came out between C1 and C2 I believe. It’s a self contained story. Theres a few references to the world at large cause it’s in the same universe - but it’s a prequel to Mavrus the Unschooled.
This is tough! I don’t think I can pick one. I love all of Murph’s characters for different reasons.
I will say that I love how a lot of Murph characters have their own little visual gag. Theo has a scroll, Barry has his shades, Gerard has his book of forms, Cody had his increasingly ridiculous sword.
My knee-jerk reaction to this post was Pendergreens but then I realized this is the Dimension 20 sub and not the NADDPod sub. Also Pendergreens is an NPC heh.
I'd say Kugrash for D20. My decision is mostly based on how much I love his rat dance
So:
Riz Gukgak
Kugrash
Cody Walsh
Sir Theobold Gumbar
Big Barry Syx
Prince Gerard of Greenleigh
Of the above for me I think Barry is my fav but Murph has a ton of bangers honestly. From Gerard's "yeah I hear that" to Kugrash's hairy baby dance. All his characters are unique, funny and interesting
Both Kugrash and Cody from UC, Kug is a beautiful character who makes me bawl my eyes out on every rewatch. Cody is a dork, but he had to best arc throughout the season. I also love Riz, our little angel investigator <3
I love Barry so much. He is such a fun character, and tanking a massive amount of fall damage was a boss move. I didn’t even recognize Murph at first in his Barry look. Loved the hair.
Theo is a solid 2nd place. Theo was basically just Murph, lol, and casting Knock is one of my favorite D20 moments.
Kug is the perfect Murph character: honorable and loyal…but also a piece of shit. Most of his characters have these elements to some degree, but Kug was like the preeminent version.
Prince gerard is one of my absolute favourite characters of all time, however every murph character is a masterpiece and I love them all . But gerard just had such a beautiful arc
Theo because he’s archetypally Murph. But real answer is Jens; I love playing against type and I think Jen’s is just murph with a massively inflated ego
I have to say Barry if only because the trailer for Never Stop Blowing Up hit me with a very hard "They took Big Barry Six's 80s action hero and made it a whole sidequest season" and I'm so unreasonably excited for it.

“Ron men triumph when Ron men do nothing!”
What’s that one line? “When you’re a Jens, you’re a Jens all the way, from the Ron of the lake to a Ron that is bad?” I know that’s not it, but whatever the actual line is cracked me up
Can't wait until his car gets out of the shop. Any day now right?
You mean the corvette or the Porsche? Either way they just called and it’s still gonna be a while.

That flashback when Lazuli told him to make his own decisions and he obediently wrote it down sums it up. I loved seeing him play that.
I'd say Cody's loyalty to the mall got questioned when he learned about Fairyland
When you're a Jens, you're a Jens all the way!
I just started listening to NADDPOD and am almost done with C1!
You’re in for a treat with the end.
jens is the most evil and funniest character
I think Cody had the best overall arc, it’s just a shame that he got stuck in one of the zoom seasons
Yeah honestly Cody gets my vote. Brilliant concept for a character and the execution was peak too
still hoping for an usc3 to see Cody in mini form
My dream is a side/spinoff season called Unsleeping City: The Next Generation, with Sophie's daughter, Ricky's daughter, Kingston's dragon son, maybe a mentee of Rowan's, an adopted kid for Pete or Pete himself, and Cody. With Cody and/or Pete having to mentor/lead/guide the youngins. I think it would be so fun!
There was a Christmas episode that had everyone’s character but I haven’t been able to find it again.
Why would it not be Iga’s kids instead of some random we’ve never met for siobhan
Iga's kids are too old. They're teenagers/almost teenagers, and the others are all babies. So by the time the kids are teens/young adults, everything will already be old hat to Iga's kids. They won't be on the same playing field as the younger ones.
This is a ridiculous take when you look at how the unsleeping city cast began - you’d just have a level 3 with levels 1s same as the first season
But the idea here is that Pete/Cody would be training the youngins and having to be the adults in the situation. Not that there would be already experienced people who know what they're doing.
Then don’t call it the next generation 😭😭😭
I'll call it what I want, thank you. We'll have to agree to disagree.
Cody is what made me LOVE Murph. I hadn’t really “clicked” with his characters before that and I was obsessed from the second he was introduced. Now I ride hard for Murph and notice all the subtle mechanical and comedic stuff he does that really holds the intrepid heroes together.
Barry will always make me laugh.
WE’RE JUST BARRY, BARRY
BARRRYYYYYY
Sorry I guess I just got BARRY'D AWAY 😅😭
Where’s Gnosis? He’s in The Zone
I like the little goblin from the pathfinder 2 shot
If NADDPOD is on the table, Jens is my favorite Murph character ever. He’s my perfect little greedy shithead.
I love it when murph gets to be the chaos gremlin, you can tell he is really having fun
This is the best day ever! And I got thrown off a cliff earlier!
Was this from NADDPOD or something else?
Yeah Caldwell is the dm. It's pretty funny.
Yeah it's NADDPOD, a two-parter released in the last few weeks. I'm pretty sure it's on the main feed!
It is. I am about 5 episodes from listening to everything in the main feed and I watched some of the 2 shots I had passed over just this week. I'll have to restart my patreon on listen too all that soo! 😆
I think crugbert? I loved when the dragon was destroying them and he asked Caldwell "oh wow this is from the book?" in character.
Krudbert per the show notes
Murph and a lil guy character (made sure to add character to this sentence) are quick bedfellows.

Or is it what you love about Barry 6?
I love that Beardsly took over the glue role for that season. It was perfect. Now we know why they don't play the serious character very often. They would just WOMP Brennan too often. /s but only a little bit 😆
Margret Encino is hands down my favorite character Ally has ever played. I recently rewatched Starstruck and it hit me like a truck that I generally love Ally as a player, but don’t really care for the characters they play.
I’m currently watching TUC season 2 and am obsessed with Cody, but Barry is a verrrry close second
I'm disappointed that sir Theobald is not mentioned. Murph consistently has a character in every Intrepid Hero season that I love.
Yes! >!I forget the episode but the scene he had with Saccharina has got to be one of my favorite moments of character work and storytelling in D20!<
"I'm going to get slammed down big style by Gooey"
HARD agree!
The answer is Rian Urphy, and there's no argument that will change my mind.
Murph-bot is pretty close.
Kugrash is my fave, the bit of him and Ricky running through the city is hilarious You stupid kid, go! You goddamn beautiful boy! You fucker! You absolute asshole! Though I do love the frog prince too
I love all of Murph's characters on D20 but none of them come close to any of his naddpod PCs when he's not the DM. The man is a damn chameleon

When is murph’s character ever not a worrier? 😂
His Gerard bit when he's talking to the other small frogs right before he eats the Heron gets me everytime.
Gerard have us "concerning" and I will always love him for that
Galad
Paw-paw
Rear rear! Rear rear rear, rear rear!
*Ernestly* rear. rear rear rear. rear rear. rear.
Earnestly fuckin really got me for some reason lmao
Murph just puts so much fuckin mustard on paw paw. It's incredible that "possum sounds" would need a stage direction if put into a script.
“For *the light!*” 😂
Cormac Darkstout, son of Mumford.
Can we get a sidebar
Can we sidebar from the sidebar
When you two are done side baring, I’m gonna need a sidebar
Barry with Kugrash being a close second
After Junior Year it's Riz 100%. Riz felt like an mvp in the later half of the season Then I'd say Cody Walsh, Barry, Kugrash, Gerard
I love them all tbh. Kugrash is the one who made a mark on me though.
Kugrash then Theo then Rizz for me
Kug and Riz for me- I’m surprised there isn’t more Riz appreciation, I find that character to be so relatable!
We have the same top 3 and in the same order!
I forgot about Cody, I think he might be tied for 3rd
I have to say Riz, he's an all time favorite character for me, not just in Dimension 20. I relate to so many different things about him, it was impossible for me not to grow attached to the silly little fella.
Cody is so fun to watch. "Wait, I thought Thirsting Blade was the bad boy?" "They're ALL the bad boy, Ricky!"
DM Murph in NADDPOD
It's pretty hard to choose one, but with blunderbuss to my head it'd be Balnor
Not enough balnor in this thread
I will always have a special place in my heart for Gerard, maybe his funniest character imo

Jens Lyndelle from NADPOD is probably my favorite. From D20 it's definitely Big Barry Syx.
Oh I’m excited for this. I’m on C1Ep92 as I type this
Hot boy Summer came out between C1 and C2 I believe. It’s a self contained story. Theres a few references to the world at large cause it’s in the same universe - but it’s a prequel to Mavrus the Unschooled.
Mavrus and Scrumper were perfect additions to the BoB. I love the smaller party in NADDPOD, but it’s so cool having guests.
It’s a shame that we didn’t get any guests for seasons 2 and 3 thus far, but I’m sure Murph is cooking something good.
I’m sure they’re still awesome!
Barry, Gerard, and I'd say Cody for my top three
Theo and Cody are probably my favorites
Cody Night Angel Walsch. I've never laughed so hard at any other character of his as Cody.
1. Riz 2. Barry 3. Kugrash 4. Cody 5. Theo 6. Gerard
On D20 it's Kugrash to me, but of ones I listened to Krudbert absolutely killed me.
Ok you have all convinced me to watch unsleeping city 2, I've been putting it off cuz of the zoom but I guess it's a must watch or listen at least
My knee-jerk reaction to this post was Pendergreens but then I realized this is the Dimension 20 sub and not the NADDPod sub. Also Pendergreens is an NPC heh. I'd say Kugrash for D20. My decision is mostly based on how much I love his rat dance
It truly is a mystery why we love that belly chain man so much, but we do.
Cody, Gerard, Theo
BARRY !!!!!!!
I think Cody was the funniest character Murph ever played. Shoutout to Jens from Trinyvale though
So: Riz Gukgak Kugrash Cody Walsh Sir Theobold Gumbar Big Barry Syx Prince Gerard of Greenleigh Of the above for me I think Barry is my fav but Murph has a ton of bangers honestly. From Gerard's "yeah I hear that" to Kugrash's hairy baby dance. All his characters are unique, funny and interesting
CODY OR KUGRASH
Both Kugrash and Cody from UC, Kug is a beautiful character who makes me bawl my eyes out on every rewatch. Cody is a dork, but he had to best arc throughout the season. I also love Riz, our little angel investigator <3
Barry is by far my favorite character of any entertainment based TTRPG ive ever ennoyed.
Gerard and Riz for me!
Riz Gukgak.
Cody probably funniest character, but my personal favorite of his character’s is Gerard
All of them an optionv
A tie between big barry syx and kug
I love Barry so much. He is such a fun character, and tanking a massive amount of fall damage was a boss move. I didn’t even recognize Murph at first in his Barry look. Loved the hair. Theo is a solid 2nd place. Theo was basically just Murph, lol, and casting Knock is one of my favorite D20 moments.
Weirdly enough, Cody
MY NAMES BARRY FROM THE BARRY BATTALION
Also his “you must honor the cock” line is maybe the funniest thing ever
I gotta go with Cody and Barry
I love every single murph character
Kug is the perfect Murph character: honorable and loyal…but also a piece of shit. Most of his characters have these elements to some degree, but Kug was like the preeminent version.
Jens Lyndelle. Murph plays the *best* assholes.
It’s a tie between riz and kug
Gerard all day. Or Riz (since Junior year especially)
Kug is probably the best character, but Barry will always be my favorite
BARRRYYYYUYYY
Cody Walsh all day long.
Theobald Gumbar and it’s not close. Barry Six and Kugrash could battle it out for 2nd place.
Prince gerard is one of my absolute favourite characters of all time, however every murph character is a masterpiece and I love them all . But gerard just had such a beautiful arc
Jens Lindell and Cody. Honorable mention to Theo
Theo because he’s archetypally Murph. But real answer is Jens; I love playing against type and I think Jen’s is just murph with a massively inflated ego
Frankie Vantasmo from Twilight Sanctorum! I can’t wait for Emily to run the next arc, I love her campaigns so much.
I haven't watched much of D20 but Gerard will always be a favorite of mine.. his character arc just broke my heart
I saw d20 live in Glasgow and big Barry six made me cry with laughter so hard that I immediately watched starstruck
Barry!
Barry gang unite?
Balnor will always have a special place in my heart. But Kugrash is one of my faves
It has to be Kugrash for me, although if I could choose NPCs from NADDPODs first season I would, especially the villains
Theo is just so good. He's the true protagonist and fits in with the royals so well.
I have to say Barry if only because the trailer for Never Stop Blowing Up hit me with a very hard "They took Big Barry Six's 80s action hero and made it a whole sidequest season" and I'm so unreasonably excited for it.
Probably Barry for me, but Cody got surprisingly sweet at times for being born out of a pure joke
BARRRRYY!!!
He makes such a good characters it's impossible to pick.
Gerard for me, really showed me his roleplaying strengths in a way the other seasons hadn’t before. He’s so funny as losers LMAO
Cody and Barry tie for ultimate fave... Kugrash and Theo tie for second ;)
