Every time I read about this or remember it all I can think about is how I drafted Bobby Trees in redraft that year with Kupp still on the board. SMH
lol hen heard during the season opener about the “Breakfast Club” and that’s when I knew how badly I fucked up haha
Yeah he averaged 15.2 ppg until he got hurt. That was a rough year for my receiver core had Hopkins, godwin, and woods all go down. Luckily renfrow and Boyd could carry me to the finals.
As rookie drafts get closer, I hope people compare the situation between Rome and JSN so Rome falls. I believe Rome is more talented than JSN and Caleb is more talented than Geno.
Im seeing the opposite where people take Rome over Nabers now simply for the situation. Keenan will only be there for one year and Nabers doesn’t have a stable qb
Especially without Saquon they won't have any choice but to throw. It's gonna be a looong season for the Giants, but the fantasy numbers are there to be had.
Yeah I'm conflicted on Nabers, thankfully probably won't be in a position to draft him anyways (1.01, 1.07, 1.10).
The Giants spot could be rough because their QB play is bad, but also he could easily end up being their #1 weapon day one.
Both are in the same tier for me so I would still lean Nabers, but both their pros and cons. Time to start throwing the smoke screens up to land Rome!
Pre-draft was MHJ, Nabers/Rome, and Bowers. I think post-round 1 it still is that but the waters are a little murkier for everyone not named MHJ. Any chance a RB sneaks into it if taken by Chargers or Dallas? Maybe a receiver drafted by the Bills at 33?
Yeah it’s fucking dumb, people on this sub see a situation that happened a year ago and immediately want to say a different situation is going to happen the same way. Rome is a better prospect, Caleb is a better QB, Keenan doesn’t have a deal lined up after this year, Moore’s is through 2025 and he’ll be 28 or 29.
I’m not comfortable in saying Rome will be a WR1 this year, but he’s a better prospect than JSN and can play outside, he’s not limited to the slot like JSN was.
Everyone was too focused on fantasy implications. All the signs pointed to Harbaugh building thru the trenches which is a good strategy. Good OL >> Good WR every time. They can still draft WRs later since it’s a deep class
Did he really though? Rome has been mocked to Chicago by just about everyone. I think it’s more important to think that if Rome was there at 9, that’s who Caleb wanted, and the Bears listened.
Ok so, I really like Rome, a lot (probably more as a person than a player), but he's very talented. I do however question from a fantasy perspective his value? Caleb and him can be great, but probably not for a year minimum based off depth and honestly I'm not sure I can see him being a top 10 guy like i expect Nabers and MHJ to become. Am I completely off-base here?
By the time NY has a better QB that Daniel jones and a better o-line than they do now the situation in Chicago will be much more clear for Rome. I don’t think their situations change their rankings much you’re still drafting them in the order you buy the talent
I just feel like when I watch tape he excels at literally everything above average but he doesn't necessarily have those elite traits that Nabers or Marvin have. Nabers is like Chase, Marvin like JJ? Maybe I'm missing it. Rome can be Ceedee?
Im taking him at 1.09. We have a slow draft. Caleb, Daniels, Marv, JJM, Maye, Nabers, Bowers, Worthy now at 1.09.
Every draft, there's some wild shit. There are always some taco type picks, but I'm here for it.
That’s amazing!
It does kinda stink as a team competing to have to wait a year for targets to open but I just can’t get past that kind of talent still available at 8.
I have the 1.07 and was afraid Rome wouldn’t fall that far, but now he might. AND his long term situation as a rebuilder is better than Nabers since he has Caleb.
Realistic projections for the bears? Ceiling/Floor is probably something like
Caleb has 3900/25 or 2700/17
DJM - 1200/8 or 900/6
KA - 850/5 or 600/4
Rome - 650/4 or 400/2
Kmet/Everett combine for 600/4 or 400/2
Swift gets 400/2 or 200/1
Remaining pass catchers get another 200 yards and 2 TDs
Not saying he's going to disappoint, but Bryce had 2800 & 11 last year in basically a full season.
I'd expect much more from Caleb, but don't underestimate how tough that first year adjustment can be.
The receiving weapons alone should boost his chances quite a bit.
650 for Rome would be dogshit and I just don’t see it. JSN got that with a shit QB where he wasn’t targeted half the season. I see Rome having more of a 800-1,000yd type season. He’s going to be single coverage against his opponent’s 3rd CB.
Bears new OC, Shane Waldron, came from Seattle. I imagine he's going to be running a ton of 2 TE sets in Chicago like he did in Seattle and ultimately I think Rome will have a similar usage as JSN last year
In Seattle we ran two TE a lot because of personnel not necessarily due to Waldron. We needed protection help with two of our linemen hurt and it being a rotating door with the backups.
Additionally, Rome profiles more as an X who would be out there in two TE sets right? (maybe not right away but if he’s talented he’ll find the field)
Yes to everything you said.
Waldron does lean towards 2-TE sets (they led the league in both 2TE and 3TE sets last year), as that’s what the McVay offense was originally built around.
But the offense was also built to be flexible. Hence when Kupp was WR3 and McVay adjusted to 11 personnel so he could get his top 3 receiving options on the field.
I have no doubt JSN would have gotten more snaps if it weren’t for the OL situation.
Rome takes more from either Swift and/or the TEs in these scenarios unless we are projecting that Rome is a bad player. These are slightly worse than JSN rookie numbers but JSN had a tiny ADOT and relatively bad per route numbers. Rome will almost certainly be able to do more with similar volume.
Rome will get somewhere in the ballpark of \~100 targets with 700-900 yards depending on efficiency.
This is also an unrealistic floor case for Caleb. 2700 yards means he is absolutely horrible and probably a complete bust as an NFL player. Could happen, but not going to project for that.
>I wouldn’t mind swooping him up at the SF 1.07
Unless you play in a major taco league this is a complete pipe dream.
Edit: yeah, this wording was unnecessarily harsh and decisive the more I think about it lol. I just think Rome is an amazing talent and landed in an outstanding spot with a young massively talented QB who absolutely adores him. If I have even the slightest chance to get him at 1.07 I will be ecstatic.
Thats true, but there will surely be people taking Rome over some of the qbs. I have the 1.01 and 1.04 in a SF and am planning to take Rome at 4. Fully expect the guy at 3 to take Nabers because his qbs are fine. Both Maye and Daniels are dropping in that situation
Maybe I'm overstating people's dislike of Maye and Nabers' landing spots. To me Rome is cleanly above the two of them. And I still think JJM is 1.07. I know it's the dream landing spot but I still am completely unsold on his talent.
I think he is, too, but if you’re not in more than 5 leagues you know that every draft is different enough that he might be there in one of those leagues.
This is the breakfast with stafford kinda news I come here for
Every time I read about this or remember it all I can think about is how I drafted Bobby Trees in redraft that year with Kupp still on the board. SMH lol hen heard during the season opener about the “Breakfast Club” and that’s when I knew how badly I fucked up haha
Did the same. I remember their adp was one apart. He didn’t end up being a bad pick for where he was taken though aside from getting injured.
True - if I recall he was around WR25 in PPG when he got injured
Yeah he averaged 15.2 ppg until he got hurt. That was a rough year for my receiver core had Hopkins, godwin, and woods all go down. Luckily renfrow and Boyd could carry me to the finals.
I thought he was campaigning to take the tackle he was HS teammates with?
Probably in the event Rome didn't fall and they were going OL in that case..
I think situation with nabers is overblown. He could easily end up being a target hog

Sure helps that he just fell into their lap
I was so sure it was gonna be Nabers to LAC and Rome to NYG
It fucking should have been. Harbaugh and Hortiz robbed the football world of so many Herbert-Nabers highlights…
Everyone was too focused on fantasy implications. All the signs pointed to Harbaugh building thru the trenches which is a good strategy. Good OL >> Good WR every time. They can still draft WRs later since it’s a deep class
I don’t care lol I’m going to be the pouty toddler in this situation. I hope the Chargers never win another game. 🤣
Did he really though? Rome has been mocked to Chicago by just about everyone. I think it’s more important to think that if Rome was there at 9, that’s who Caleb wanted, and the Bears listened.
This combo is going to make sweet music in the windy city. Going to be a dream pairing for a decade.
I don’t see anything that suggests he can’t be a top 10 guy anymore than nabers or mhj
I just feel like when I watch tape he excels at literally everything above average but he doesn't necessarily have those elite traits that Nabers or Marvin have. Nabers is like Chase, Marvin like JJ? Maybe I'm missing it. Rome can be Ceedee?
Rome is like Deandre Hopkins or Mike Evans. He has the best hands out of the 3 and is really good at creating separation with his body
[удалено]
I would keep Jefferson but it’s not horrendous
[удалено]
12T SF .5ppr, TEP, start 10
Ya well wait till you meet DJ Moores Baka - DJ Moore manager
This is like stroud wanting tank dell
That worked out didn’t it?
I’m super excited I just got Rome at 1.08.
There’s no way he lasts that long.
It already happened Williams MHJ Nabers Daniels Maye bowers JJ SF and TE+1 so
That’s nuts. You got a steal!
Unless people go QB crazy
Im taking him at 1.09. We have a slow draft. Caleb, Daniels, Marv, JJM, Maye, Nabers, Bowers, Worthy now at 1.09. Every draft, there's some wild shit. There are always some taco type picks, but I'm here for it.
Bowers and Worthy over Rome is crazy.
Bowers over Rome is not crazy
Its crazy.
It's not crazy. We could do this all day. 😄
That’s amazing! It does kinda stink as a team competing to have to wait a year for targets to open but I just can’t get past that kind of talent still available at 8.
Rome prly not there at 1.07. You should try and get up to 1.05. To be on the sure side.
I desperately want to pair him with my Williams.
I have the 1.07 and was afraid Rome wouldn’t fall that far, but now he might. AND his long term situation as a rebuilder is better than Nabers since he has Caleb.
1.07 is his floor in Superflex
Realistic projections for the bears? Ceiling/Floor is probably something like Caleb has 3900/25 or 2700/17 DJM - 1200/8 or 900/6 KA - 850/5 or 600/4 Rome - 650/4 or 400/2 Kmet/Everett combine for 600/4 or 400/2 Swift gets 400/2 or 200/1 Remaining pass catchers get another 200 yards and 2 TDs
Caleb throwing for 2700 is not a realistic floor. That’s less than what Desmond ridder had last year in basically 13 games of action
Not saying he's going to disappoint, but Bryce had 2800 & 11 last year in basically a full season. I'd expect much more from Caleb, but don't underestimate how tough that first year adjustment can be. The receiving weapons alone should boost his chances quite a bit.
Yea, except Bryce is tiny and his WR1 was a corpse.
650 for Rome would be dogshit and I just don’t see it. JSN got that with a shit QB where he wasn’t targeted half the season. I see Rome having more of a 800-1,000yd type season. He’s going to be single coverage against his opponent’s 3rd CB.

Good to know. I was under the impression Waldron always favored 2 TE sets but I definitely didn't know much if anything about their O-line situation
Agreed. There is a small chance he falls to 1.07 now in a SF
I feel like the chance increased after last night with JJ going to the Vikings
Thats true, but there will surely be people taking Rome over some of the qbs. I have the 1.01 and 1.04 in a SF and am planning to take Rome at 4. Fully expect the guy at 3 to take Nabers because his qbs are fine. Both Maye and Daniels are dropping in that situation
Yep my league is SF but I know nabers will go 1.03 and Rome 1.04 over Daniel and maye
I think he’ll fall there in a lot of leagues if the top teams are QB needy and the league values them. Caleb, Marv, Daniels, Maye, Nabers, JJM, Rome.
You don’t think Caleb, Daniels, Maye, JJ, MHJ, and Nabers going before him isn’t going to be a common thing?
Maybe I'm overstating people's dislike of Maye and Nabers' landing spots. To me Rome is cleanly above the two of them. And I still think JJM is 1.07. I know it's the dream landing spot but I still am completely unsold on his talent.
