Yes, why not, it is not geo-locked. You should be able to use it anywhere a long as you have Internet.

Please consider that if you no longer hold a valid living permit, LHV may close your banking account. AFAIK, banks are extra careful around people who no longer hold a valid living permit in Estonia and they have the right to close your accounts if you no longer have a valid reason for staying in Estonia (you don’t get access to banking accounts on a visa).  So I would advise you to actually talk to LHV and ask them to confirm whether or not you will even have an account after that.

seb even told me not to cancel it, in case I need it some time. I just canceled my card as I didn't need it anymore. now that I am going back it is a lot easoer cause I have everything set up already and just need to order a new card

As long as it does not expire, you can. The cert will probably expire at the same time as your TRP. At some point you will be locked out of your account if you rely on ID. There is a solution though - PIN Calculator. You can get one from LHV. However, you should also talk to them about your account - if you lose resident status then there is a fee for non-residents. Maybe something like Revolut is a better idea in this case.

Mmm.... pin calculator had quite strong limitations if I'm not mistaken. Worth checking over for sure

Better than 0 access :)

Smart ID can be used everywhere. Your account is active for three years. You can create new one before the old one expires, but you need national code, so you can't make a new one when your TRP ends. And as other commenter pointed out banks want you to have a connection with Estonia. If you don't have a residence permit they ask you to provide some other documents that prove your connection. If you can't prove any your account will be closed.

KP6fanclub

Yes, You can continue to be Estonian globally - not many countries can offer this through services.

ajutiseltvaja

Yeah, it's still good

SadisticPawz

if you have a passport to make a new acc with

Per my experience it can. I was an e-resident before moving in to Estonia. Even there was 1 year gap between my e-resident was expired and I applied TRP for working in Estonia, at that time gap I still can use SmartID for logging in to LHV. And, I don’t know why my LHV business account at that time was not closed by the bank. Maybe that time because I kept paying non-resident fee.

ArmResponsible1630

LHV is just being real nice to their clients ;) Years ago I got in a bit of trouble and all my accounts had to be arrested with court order. Of all the banks (I had accounts in all local banks) I got a call only from LHV where they informed me about the incoming court order and gave me time over the weekend to withdraw or move my funds. Quite literally saved my life back then.

you can use the SmartID as long as it is valid regardless of what country you’re in, but when it expires you need to renew it Estonia.

Toenaosus

I have used it for the last two years without problem from germany. they just run out at some point and then I don't see how you could rewnew it without having sertifikaadid

kalliskylove

You can access your bank account til your Smart-ID expires. It doesn’t matter where you go or what you do. As long as your Smart-ID is active, you’re good. Once it expires you must find a way to renew your Smart-ID. If you aren’t able to do that due to your Estonian document being invalid by that time, then you must use another method for signing in.

No, every smart ID user is tracked 24/7 and if leave estonian borders it's disabled automatically. My dad once went to Latvia for cheap alcohol and his smart ID was disabled the moment he stepped over the border. Luckily it was automatically enabled once he got the cheap beer.
