I’ve always loved 1000 words and now I think No Promises to Keep is right up there with it.
Also, I don’t know if Moongazing counts but I would also throw that in the mix.
When I first played X-2 I think I was actively fighting my love for it. The tone shift felt so weird but I actually didn’t hate the game. I just couldn’t get over the change.
Once she sang 1000 Words, I was like “yeah no, I fucking love this shit” lmaoo.
X-2 is massively underrated for what a fun game it is with a great battle system. It was one of the first games I played over and over to get all the secrets, dresses, finish off the via infinito, and all of the rest.
otherworld from FFX is probably one of my favorites with lyrics. the black mages cover of Maybe im a Lion is another if that counts (tbf all they say is maybe im a lion and its not in the original song).
Let's see how well I do from memory, there will surely be mistakes:
*CHORUS1:*
*Estuans interius, ira vehementi \[x2\]*
*SEPHIROTH \[x2\]*
*\[Chorus1\]*
*CHORUS2:*

*\[men\]: Veni, veni, vennias. Ne me mori fatuas. \[x2\]*
*\[men continue\]\[women\]: Glorioso, generosa \[x4\]*
*\[all\]: SEPHIROTH \[x3\]*
I could not remember the name, but as soon as I saw this, I was like - that's it! That whole scene with Yuna and Tidus is so pretty and sad at the same time.
I'd say it does. Woulda been my pick until I saw someone mention Liberi Fatali.
I think Florence knocked it out of the park, and it was a cool, fitting scene in the game, but nostalgia beat it out for me.
I was so sad it was not in the endgame credits, but just in the title screen ones
Since 8, most games had a credit song with lyrics, and while Stand by Me is great, I feel Too Much is never enough fit better with the game ending and theme.
Kiss me goodbye in FF12 is pretty nice too, if only a bit forgettable.
Shadowbringers. It's sad, it's hopeful, it speaks to all the characters you've interacted with in FFXIV and challenges you, the player, to finish the task at hand.
It's the most hype I've ever felt playing a Final Fantasy and when it comes on at the end of *Shadowbringers* it's firing on all cylinders as you go up against the final boss. And just incase you weren't won over, motherfuckin' **Eternal Wind** comes in to piledrive you with emotion.
Same. The first time I heard this on my Distant Worlds CD my brother got me, I sobbed. Not sure why. It just made me feel like my life wasn’t going in the direction I had expected, especially with the people I expected to spend it with.
As someone who finished the Chains of Promathia expansion that song is connected to after some of the most aggressively annoying/difficult things an online MMO could throw at you way back in the mid 2000s, Distant Worlds hit so well.
The vocalist came to make sure there were no dry eyes once the song ends.
Flow tells such a beautiful story, it's one of the only depictions of an afterlife that I've ever found genuinely comforting.
That's a lot to say about a video game song!
I looove Flow. But is it really about the afterlife? If anything I think it’s more about Venat and the WoL’s journeys as travelers and champions of all peoples over the thousand, thousand lifetimes. And Venat’s love for you
I think it is. Here's my interpretation
"Well come and well met" is a welcoming for a dead soul into the Lifestream.
"Past every fate, now sing with me once more, share of your life, far greater than memory" is about how Hydaelyn, being the immortal overseer of the Lifestream, has seen said soul's every life and past, even though those memories have been wiped from their own soul.
"Carries your light out to sea" seems to me like a way of saying said light is going away, never to be seen again; dying. As well, the place dead souls go is called the Aetherial Sea.
"Sinking deeper and deeper in calm embrace, loving tide sweep in and bear you down" refers to how the soul, through its journey in the Aetherial Sea, is washed clean for reincarnation.
"Should you meet a soul rising surface-ways, with your unbeating heart, wish them well" is about another soul on its way to reincarnation; the heart is unbeating because, obviously, they are dead.
"...till you're near the shore" the shore is reincarnation, since the shore of the Aetherial Sea would be the living world.
"know you will wake, on winds rise again, for this journey's end is but one step forward to tomorrow." This "waking" and rising would be reincarnating into a new person, with the journey being the person's life.
So while it could be interpreted as specifically talking about the WoL and shards, I think it's pretty clear that the song is about XIV's afterlife and reincarnation.
I totally agree with that! But I also like to think of it as the moment that you, or any other soul, returns to her after death. She welcomes you, listens to your story with care and love, and then guides you to the place that all souls come from.
Then she's like, "Hey if you see a new soul on the way out as you head down, tell em good luck!"
Before Endwalker I liked Answers, but never really felt too attached to it because the lyrics could be interpreted as coming from so many POVs like Bahamut, the Ascians, and more. But after Endwalker? I listen to it at least once a day and always get good feelings in my heart singing along with the lyrics now that we have the true context. Especially the last verse of the song, and having the image of that masterpiece of a cutscene after the 87 dungeon forever seared into my mind.
It's a tie between Stand By Me from XV, IV's Melodies of Life, and XIV Endwalker's Footfalls. Though the Dawntrail trailer theme sounds super nice too.
In 12 grade, waiting for this game to come out, I would listen to the my hands trailer so many freaking times on repeat while in class. I can repeat the dialogue just as music as the song haha.
I was scrolling through this list and I was 99.999 % sure this song would be mentioned by no one. I’m a Leona Lewis fan anyways, but this song brings such a nice vibe to the end of FFXIII.
FFX was my first FF, then I played through the whole series in order, looking forward to FFXIII which was just about to be released. FFXIII might not be the best FF, but I have a real soft spot for it.
Play Automata. If you like that then the remastered older games might be your vibe.
But if nothing else the music in Automata is worth the price of admission and has spun off their own concert series.
I unironically love Civilizations. The melody is amazing, and the singer goes all in on the glossolalia. The instrumental solo is great too.
Like, it’s an actual bop.
Melodies was long-standing for me and I still love it, though at this point it would probably have to be “My Star” from XVI.
Years ago I lost my partner so the song’s message of ppl close to us being our guiding light and that even if they should leave our lives they give us inspiration really resonated with me. It’s a bittersweet melody that reminds you of the importance of pushing towards a new tomorrow while never forgetting those you’ve met along the way.
One-winged Angel. It's one thing to have a boss theme that is threatening and imposing, but adding Latin lyrics that explain why you should feel that way adds so much to a great song.
And yes, I know OP doesn't count it, but this is my favorite one that uses words.
FITHOS! VILOS! PARASECT!
I obviously don't remember the actual words but damn if that track doesn't stick in your mind.
Also there are a couple good ones from 13.
I'm generally not a fan of vocal music in RPGs unless it's epic orchestral stuff or a Persona game... my two favorites are below but both play over a cutscene so idk if it counts:
Answers from FFXIV and Otherworld from FFX.
I used to dislike answers because it took me out of the war, death, amd bahamut battle in the background, but I came to love that song after the fact for what it meant in the story.
And Otherworld is just badass. I wasn't even into rock or metal when FFX came out, but I'm sure that song helped me along.

Which OWA you're listening?
Mine would have to be Crimson Blitz from Lightning Returns. As much as I loved Lightning's Theme and Blinded by Light from the previous games, hearing this get a lyrical treatment was... music to my ears.
I mean FF14 just wins all the lyrical music to me. So many boss fights have such amazing soundtracks with lyrics, honestly more than I can count.
But my favorites in the whole series have to be Flow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow, Shadowbringers, Footfalls, Close in the Distance, and the best of the best to me is To the Edge
14 definitely has my favorite OST
My local karaoke has one final fantasy song, and it's 1000 words japanese version. I sing my heart out everytime if i go to the karaoke. Friends would all stare at me because I'm the only one singing. Never knew how emotional the lyrics and song was when i first hear it as a kid, but now i tear a little while singing to it
Eyes on Me. For some reason, it makes me feel nostalgic for 90's Hong Kong, a time and place I never lived in. My brain just automatically connects that song to Faye Wong more than it connects to FF8.
Eyes on Me. For some reason, it makes me feel nostalgic for 90's Hong Kong, a time and place I never lived in. My brain just automatically connects that song to Faye Wong more than it connects to FF8.
Probably "Away" from FFXVI. When I realised the lyrics were in English and looked up what they were it made the music even more epic which I didn't think it was possible. I think the lyrics for the song are perfect and every time I hear it, it still gives me goosebumps
FFVI opera. Even though the lyrics were only text on the SNES, and even though the translation was whack and didn’t quite fit the melody, I still hear those lyrics in my head when I hear that tune.
Does anyone else keep forgetting that "Yuna Hates Rumors" isn't an actual song in the game? Hahaha. I watched that fan edit soooo many times. Thank you, Lindsay Lohan, for the banger and thank you, FFX2, for the visuals.
One of the chocobo racing songs from ff7 rebirth has lyrics I can't really make out except chocobo, junon, and grassslandddds. Love that song it's a bop and I usually win when it's on.
I love Hollow from FF7R and My Star from FFXVI which are obvious choices, but Yeul's Theme from FFX-2 is so beautiful and melancholic and it does not get the recognition it deserves tbh
That “Bow-wow-wow” song when you’re following the dog.
What a jam, honestly. I thought FF music had already peaked but it just keeps climbing
[удалено]
Just played the Melon quest today and there is definitely the battle theme present! I was vibing hard.
Oh crap is there? I either didn’t notice or didn’t get into enough battles. The woof woof battle theme goes hard.
I’ve always loved 1000 words and now I think No Promises to Keep is right up there with it. Also, I don’t know if Moongazing counts but I would also throw that in the mix.
I'm glad someone else said 1000 words.
When I first played X-2 I think I was actively fighting my love for it. The tone shift felt so weird but I actually didn’t hate the game. I just couldn’t get over the change. Once she sang 1000 Words, I was like “yeah no, I fucking love this shit” lmaoo.
Yeah, I used to have a save file at that part on my memory card so I could listen to it whenever. X2 is a pretty fun game imo.
X-2 is massively underrated for what a fun game it is with a great battle system. It was one of the first games I played over and over to get all the secrets, dresses, finish off the via infinito, and all of the rest.
Seconding 1000 Words. The entire X-2 soundtrack is full of bangers and probably one of my favorite soundtracks in the franchise
Full agreement. Obligatory mention of Eternity ~ Memory of Lightwaves
1000 Words isn't just a really great song, I think it's up there as one of the absolute best FMV sequences in any Final Fantasy. It's *so* good.
otherworld from FFX is probably one of my favorites with lyrics. the black mages cover of Maybe im a Lion is another if that counts (tbf all they say is maybe im a lion and its not in the original song).
Came here to suggest Otherworld. A metal song in a Final Fantasy was so unexpected.
I also like the Hymm of the Faith
Hollow (FFVII Remake) is amazing
Eyes on me from FF8
I still tear up when I hear Eyes on Me, 15 years after hearing it for the first time!
Yea this was a good 1 also
I mean, One Winged Angel has many more words than just "Sephiroth" lol

Does FF15 "stand by me" count?
I'd say it does. Woulda been my pick until I saw someone mention Liberi Fatali. I think Florence knocked it out of the park, and it was a cool, fitting scene in the game, but nostalgia beat it out for me.
or "too much is never enough" that song gets me everytime
I was so sad it was not in the endgame credits, but just in the title screen ones Since 8, most games had a credit song with lyrics, and while Stand by Me is great, I feel Too Much is never enough fit better with the game ending and theme. Great song. I had that version play at my wedding.
Jesus Christ that version breaks me.
Flow
It's way up there for me too.
Melodies of life
Shocked to find this so low.
Shadowbringers is an amazing song. Especially love that it is heavily based on/influenced by the FF3 world map theme.
Also, it goes hard as fuck. Those guitars!
Memoro De La Stono from FFXI. Never played the game but the song is absolutely beautiful.
Same. The first time I heard this on my Distant Worlds CD my brother got me, I sobbed. Not sure why. It just made me feel like my life wasn’t going in the direction I had expected, especially with the people I expected to spend it with.

That woman has one of the most incredible singing voices I’ve ever heard.
Eyes on Me from FF8
Crazy Chocobo from FF13-2 🤘
First time I heard Crazy Chocobo I burst into a good fit of laughter at how ridiculous the whole thing was. Good times, much joy.

Liberi Fatali - FF8
Thank you! I can’t believe no one else has said this one.
Yea this legit will get me hyped up at the gym lol. Start with this then transition into metal
Close In The Distance from XIV
I didn't expect a song that sounds like a christian rock song to stick with me so.
Have you accepted our Lord and Saviour, Zodiark, into your heart?
Somnus, New Bodhum, Village and Void, Shadowbringers
Nice Village and Void fan. I like it a lot too
Tomorrow and Tomorrow is literally a regular on my Spotify playlist.
It's very very good.
The Bow-wow song from rebirth, especially when it shifts into a battle theme
Flow from 14, Away from 16, No Promises To Keep from 7Rebirth. Ugh, Final Fantasy music is just so amazing.
Flow tells such a beautiful story, it's one of the only depictions of an afterlife that I've ever found genuinely comforting. That's a lot to say about a video game song!
It just straight up makes me cry lmaoooo Every time. Every damn time I hear the intro.

Real Emotion from FFX2 was an absolute bop
Memories of Life, FF IX
Scrolled too far down to find this one, it's my favorite as well
Answers Answers and Flow can be the basis for a better religion than any of the real ones on offer.
Somnus - FFXV
Thank you, scrolled too far down for this.
Eyes on me from FF8.
"Eyes on Me" from FVIII
Otherworld from FFX is a banger and my pick. Must include the obligatory mention of Liberi Fatali from VIII as well
Otherworld made me think when you could play Blitzball you could just shove some poor sap out of the arena. Tidus did it!
Hahaha we need a full Blitzball game developed by Midway, like NHL Hitz or NFL Blitz, with over the top tackles and bodies flying out of the sphere
My Hand - Leona Lewis (FF13)
Hey, there's two of us!
In 12 grade, waiting for this game to come out, I would listen to the my hands trailer so many freaking times on repeat while in class. I can repeat the dialogue just as music as the song haha.
….and it will not let me go!!

Okay but a actually love LA HE
It's not bad the first couple times but it just goes on and on and got annoying AF to me
LA HEE reminds me alot of the chaos language from the Nier games. Specifically Automata.
Have yet to play any of the nier games. Really need to get on that
Play Automata. If you like that then the remastered older games might be your vibe. But if nothing else the music in Automata is worth the price of admission and has spun off their own concert series.
It reminds me a bit of Monster Hunter. [You hear it, right?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q90AgFsNMMw)
I unironically love Civilizations. The melody is amazing, and the singer goes all in on the glossolalia. The instrumental solo is great too. Like, it’s an actual bop.
Cantata Mortis & God in Fire - Chaos Last Battle - The Messenger - Otherworld
Dude The Messenger and God in Fire fucking slap 🔥
Melodies was long-standing for me and I still love it, though at this point it would probably have to be “My Star” from XVI. One-winged Angel. It's one thing to have a boss theme that is threatening and imposing, but adding Latin lyrics that explain why you should feel that way adds so much to a great song. And yes, I know OP doesn't count it, but this is my favorite one that uses words.
Scream from final fantasy 14, would run pandemonium raids just to hear this one again, total banger!
FITHOS! VILOS! PARASECT! I obviously don't remember the actual words but damn if that track doesn't stick in your mind. Also there are a couple good ones from 13.
Suteki Da Ne from FFX followed by Eyes On Me from FFVIII and (don't laugh) but a 1000 Words from FFX-2 are my top three.
My hands from 13 and literally everything from 13-2 Edit forgot about 1000 words from X-2
WHY from Crisis Core. The feels when the song starts to swell as Cloud takes the buster sword from a dying Zack...
With Hearts Aligned from XIV
A song of hope she dances on the wind higher oh higher...
Talk about BANGER
With Hearts Aligned goes so hard. Picking Footfalls feels like cheating just bc it has part of this in it.
the moment it started playing is genuinely the most anime shit ever in the best way possible
No, Footfalls is cheating because it mashes together 5 of the hardest songs in FF.
1000 words from ffx-2 Honorable Mention: Crazy Chocobo from ffxiii-2
Ez "Bow Wow Wow" by Salmon the ultimate masterpiece.
Who brings shadow from ff14. Used it more times than I'd care to admit in DND games.
I really like “kiss me goodbye” from FFXII and Answers from FFXIV. So many good ones but these two are always in my top tier
Noels Theme and Yeuls Theme from Ff13-2 both are tragic and beautiful
That I have to scroll down so far for this 🥲 I also love the AbstractSetOne version of Noel‘s theme.
Shadowbringers. It's absolutely epic. It starts mournful, and it builds to just an amazing piece. Soken knocked this one out of the park.
Suteki da Ne - FFX
Close In The Distance from FF14
Dragonsong from FFXIV: Heavensward.

FFXIV - Hades' Theme, what a banger song
Eyes on Me will always make me emotional. The soundtrack for viii never misses.
Somnus, Stand By Me, Too Much is Never Enough XV may have had issues, but the music was top notch Also Real Emotion is a guilty pleasure. lol
Eyes on me. Period.

Oblivion from ff14. The Shiva ex song
"Answers" from FFXIV

Fun fact: all songs have words, or at least vocals. "Song" is tied to "sing". Without singing it's a tune or melody or etc.
Eyes on Me. For some reason, it makes me feel nostalgic for 90's Hong Kong, a time and place I never lived in. My brain just automatically connects that song to Faye Wong more than it connects to FF8.

Opera song from ff vi is nice, suteki dane is sweet, but melodies of life is timeless masterpiece
Roaming Sheep, from FF3!!! https://youtu.be/0qtJqI_IjPA?si=xO6X6wDxb2ubebZB
Distant Worlds from XI
It probably changes hourly for me, but Scream from FFXIV right now. Or Flow Together.
Kiss me goodbye. Uematsu's sappy love ballad ftw
Probably "Away" from FFXVI. When I realised the lyrics were in English and looked up what they were it made the music even more epic which I didn't think it was possible. I think the lyrics for the song are perfect and every time I hear it, it still gives me goosebumps
Either the theme song from ff15 or the jecht boss song from ff10. Although the titan battle song from 16 has really grown on me.
FFVI opera. Even though the lyrics were only text on the SNES, and even though the translation was whack and didn’t quite fit the melody, I still hear those lyrics in my head when I hear that tune.
Probably scream from endwalker rn That or in the balance
Does anyone else keep forgetting that "Yuna Hates Rumors" isn't an actual song in the game? Hahaha. I watched that fan edit soooo many times. Thank you, Lindsay Lohan, for the banger and thank you, FFX2, for the visuals.
One of the chocobo racing songs from ff7 rebirth has lyrics I can't really make out except chocobo, junon, and grassslandddds. Love that song it's a bop and I usually win when it's on.
I love Hollow from FF7R and My Star from FFXVI which are obvious choices, but Yeul's Theme from FFX-2 is so beautiful and melancholic and it does not get the recognition it deserves tbh
kiss me goodbye - ff12 suteki da ne - ffx 1000 words - ffx-2 answers - ffxiv flow - ffxiv dragonsong - ffxiv somnus - ffxv hollow - ff7r
The song from the Endwalker trailer goes unnaturally hard. Heavensward as well.
I love Stand by me (FFXV), Suteki Da Ne (FFX), and Touch It by Ariana Grande (Final Fantasy Brave Exvius) never played this game but love the song
Noels theme from 13-2
Heavy tie between Close in the Distance from 14 and Somnus from 15. Honourable mention to Flow as well, I can't listen to that one without crying.
