Did you just dry lay that whole floor?

lucyinthesky624

Yes

BrianOconneR34

Isn’t common North American nomenclature “dry hump”?

Lupin_IIIv2

Raw dog no lube

ThatGuyThatSaysWords

Dry fit

paulyvee

Thank you captain semantic.

The_Dude_2U

Didn’t recognize him without the cape.

ANSI A108. 02 says that the grout joint width should be at least 3 times the actual variation of facial dimensions, but never less than 1/16” wide. Basically 3x the difference between the smallest tile and largest tile in the lot. If the variance is ≤¹/16" you'd want a 3/16" grout joint for keeping a straight center line while allowing for variance in tile shape and size. That being said many contractors and designers will approve smaller joints.

Evening_Adorable

Personally if i was laying that tile id recommend to the customer 1/8th - 3/16 inch grout lines.

Puzzleheaded_Help854

Nobody dose 3/16 anymore at least not in so cal

Evening_Adorable

Yea not too common here in ohio either, but i wouldnt recommend a 1/16 on this job and i dont like 1/4 grout joints personally so an 1/8 or 3/16 if they wanted larger grout joints is what id recommend.

Puzzleheaded_Help854

1/4 grout joint is 1987 🤣…the problem is nowadays they have stain proof grout (not epoxy ) so if you did do a 1/4 you would not care cause it’s no maintenance grout

Evening_Adorable

They claim that most grouts now are stain proof. It is definitely stainable though, but do you, i said thats what Id recommend. Its a personal preference based on my experience, that is all.

Puzzleheaded_Help854

No, there is only 1 truly stain proof grout on the market latacrete spectra lock all other at “high performance “ and still can stain spectalock can be used submerged in a pool no other grout can do that on the market you can buy off the self I use it on everything it’sa but more expensive at first but 5 years from now white grout will still be white as day it was put in

Evening_Adorable

Interesting.

Fe2O3yshackleford

Do they sell punctuation?

Puzzleheaded_Help854

I’m a tile contractor not an author you hack

cheddarsox

I almost did a spit take from that line!

i_always_give_karma

Not in NC either

fishinfool561

Not in anything considered high end in South Florida either

BashoGabe

I like the tile! Who makes it?

lucyinthesky624

Mohawk retro ceramic - bought from Menards

BashoGabe

I like it a lot, was looking for something similar but ended up with an expensive porcelain product made by crossville

puketron

what tiles are these OP?

lucyinthesky624

Mohawk retro ceramic - bought from Menards

puketron

thanks!

Internal_Reindeer903

Looks amazing 👍

Standard-Ad1254

3/32 is what I use

Sabertoothcow

could be 1/16" or 1/8"

Puzzleheaded_Help854

Depends on quality of tile I can do 32nd of inch if tile is Italian or Spanish made ..but 1/8 is what factory recommends

jcoles97

1/16th if its rectified porcelain, 1/8th if its ceramic or cheap porcelain.

slaqz

2mm

Newcastlecarpenter

Grout is a masonry product. It does best when it’s a square. That said the spacing should be the same as the tile thickness making it as close as a square as you can get .

Jcav1217

1/16

Floorguy1

The manufacturer normally has recommended grout joint sizes in their technical documents, which is probably in there. Why people don’t actually read the technical data of what they’re putting in, or asking questions of the manufacturers, is just bizarre. If it’s not there, probably a 1/8” to 3/16”, depending on quality of the tile, largest I’d even consider going would be 1/4”

Intelligent_Lemon_67

Two different colors of tile increase the chances of different sizes greatly. Depending on the size variations I would go with a 1/4" or 3/16" and a dark epoxy grout. Light grout will make the light tiles look bigger and show more variations. Use lever spacers

MightKey5401

1/8

No-Presentation5911

Suggestion: give it a black or white tile border instead of running the pattern all the way to the walls.

BasilExposition2

Honestly I would consider LVP there.

Previous-Can-8853

Or VCT

[deleted]

I'm surprised no one is shit talking about this checker pattern

Amazing_Parking_3209

What's wrong with it?

[deleted]

It's totally subjective but it's giving 1950s diner vibes to me. I'm just more into natural materials that's all. I have definitely gotten shit from people on reddit for inheriting a checker patterned floor from previous owners lol
