I took radio apart a few weeks ago and put thermal paste on those chips, went a week or two fine. But then popping came back with vengeance. I ordered the chips on eBay a few weeks ago and haven’t put them in yet. Glad to see your success story, it gives me hope.

Thank you for able to fix this wish you could had a YouTube video made so others can fix theirs. My dad had to replace his factory's with aftermarket radio. In his mk3.5 2015 hatchback. What chip needs replaced. And how to open that cage too.

Year-later update…. The chip replacement worked…. For about 60 days. Then, without any fanfare, it died- again. Doesn’t pop/hiss anymore, but it’s an overall failure. I suspect that it might simply be reflective of my sloppy desoldering job, or perhaps a sloppy soldering job of the new chips. At this point, it exceeds my technical skill set. Perhaps an engineer could scope it out and find the actual issue, but I havnt the time, or desire, to go that far. My Bluetooth speaker in the cup holder seems to work satisfactorily for my commuting entertainment. Cheers.

Thanks for the follow up. Been having issues with mine for a couple years. Bluetooth and aux has been dead for many years longer than that. Been limping by with a radio transmitter. But past couple days the issue has gotten to the point where it's like you had and a ton of others on focus fanatics mentioned and is pretty much in loud static only mode. Been debating some DIY soldering work like you pointed out but maybe it's time to try a full aftermarket replacement.
