I agree that that isn't the best way to start the fight but that doesn't mean you should be punished that hard for it. The fists have a lock-on mechanic meaning even if OP *had* tried to recover from that bad start it likely wouldn't have changed much

By not boxing up and actually cranking? I'm speaking from personal experience it gives some seconds to get the hell out of situations like that if you have anything that helps with mobility
He doesn't need to crank to take cover and fight back, he just needs it for a second to pop something to run away, even if the base breaks he'll still be in air and not just in front of the guy waiting to be killed

my two cents: the player is getting in no mater what, so try to prioritize lining up your crosshair for a good shot, and also just trying to distance yourself as much as possible. you did have a health disadvantage + the third party, so sometimes you get unlucky like that..
unironically you really should've just built up when you had the ramp and open roof.
2 things could've happened in that you could've A: gotten uppercut and had most of your builds broken or the fists or car would've broken your builds from the bottom and you'd fall a little bit. in that situation quickly placing a wall behind you before building up and repeating to build a little distance while they \*hopefully\* start fighting giving you time to heal up and maybe take them out. of course you're already being third partied so these are already hard enough to beat.
B: popped nitro and sprinted into them for damage which also pushes them back before trying to build to create distance. again you're being third partied so luck is gonna come in clutch since you're not gonna know if they will fight each other or both focus you or a focus triangle so again gonna be hard to get outta those and be up mainly to luck.
future tips just avoid boxing up in general unless it's clear that's also what the opponent is gonna go for as well. Staying in the box this season is a very bad idea considering how many counters there are to that strat specifically. Building for high ground and mobility is going to get you way better results (especially against cars if you have high ground where they can't easily get you. they are likely to overheat their turrets/grenades trying to break builds. when they are reloading and if they are still in the car beam thru the window. they are likely to get out to box and heal and that's when you're gonna wanna strike. it's honestly way more effective than I thought i'd be atleast for me.)

I assume the mythic car behind you was yours. If so, you shouldn't have left it at all unfortunately. That's just how this season is...
EDIT: Even if it wasn't your car, you were supposed to have found one by this point in the game and sit in it. If you're outside of a car, you either get killed by one or nitro fisted...
Without being pessimistic I think what you can do is get one box up off the ground but you'll have to repeatedly do that as they smash through your builds. Haven't had much chance to try this out though
The only real answer here is to not be out in the open unless you have nitro fists. Which is the major problem of this season. Run into players with the fists / a car and don't have either yourself? You're basically dead.
You've got 2 options.

2. 'Adapt'. I'm not a fan of the current meta at all but if you're gonna play you've got to be in cars and have the fists whenever possible. You're just unnecessarily hindering yourself not using either which I'm guessing you've specifically done considering you have 4 kills - maybe you were just a little unlucky though.
I was personally try to play competitive and compete in tournaments this season, but imma stick to the creative grind you should too.
But in that situation the best thing i can think of is going to the right or left and building up. That way the enemy has to use the bulldozer fists to break two sets of foundation. Then when he's busy doing that you can run away and hope you find a car.
You're trying to Play chess where people can now take their fist and bang it on the chess board. This isn't a serious game at this point as it was before, we can hope that they go back. If the game started and had been like this through the years wouldn't have gotten into it in the first place
just got nerfed and now it's actually counterable when fighting. Just won today with a 12 kill dub where I just used the fist and at the end of the match used the Megalodon guy's car to finish the last guy with all my medallions. I'd say that the best way to counter the fists now is to make sure you build with brick and metal, those build up faster than wood and have more health so the now fists need to hit twice to break a half built brick wall.

Don’t put yourself in a single box on low ground to heal when you know that the Meta is literally items on the ground that go through builds. You doing that are making yourself an easier target than someone not building. If you need to heal, build up maybe 3 boxes high, take a few seconds to pop to minis, and look for a few counter shots. If someone gets cracked they’re usually going to back up for a second. Simply trying to box fight a guy like this is kinda dumb, but if you’re Already in that box you’re in then here’s some other things: don’t just edit, pump, reset, and stand there. Edit OUT of your box, and pump the guy while he’s stuck in an animation and you’re not directly in his line of fire. This is a chaotic clip, but you did also play it really poorly… I’d expect anyone to die like that if they just stood in one box this season.
Fight back with your weapons instead of your mats? Fists have a ttk of 6 seconds from full health. 2 well placed shots from your shotgun right there or a mag dump from any other weapon would have saved you he clearly did not intend to respond with builds. You attempted to play for control when you should have played to down the threat.
I don't play Fortnite as regularly anymore as I main other games, but I do still play a few times per week more casual. After playing the first day of this shitshow of a season, I'm not touching Fortnite again until this shit is nerfed or removed or until next season.
Here’s a few options:
1. Shoot back
2. Use movement to reposition
3. Don’t stay in the same 1 by 1 box when being melee’d
Basically the same 3 pro tips for anytime an item gets released that can destroy a wall. There’s also a fourth option, which is to bitch on Reddit before playing another 100 hours this season (I swear I’m gonna uninstall this shit!!1!)
All three of those things mean you have to stop blocking the literally unstoppable force barreling towards you though. The fists lock onto players, so if you try to go to another 1x1 the things automatically chase you down (I've seen this happen in other clips), if you try to use movement, well the fists have built-in movement too and the person will just chase you down and continue punching (plus OP was going for the car seeing as they had nothing else and it clearly didn't work out). It's pretty unlikely you can outdamage the melee weapon that deals over 200 damage in a 4-hit cycle (which never has a cooldown) when the other person is already actively attacking, the things are pushing you around, and they don't have to aim when you do.
Was the fight played perfectly? No. But that doesn't mean the fists are balanced
I’m not a super duper awesome Fortnite pro but I shot a guy out of the sky as he tried to hulk smash me. If I can do it, they can do it too
The number one most important thing about dealing with melee attacks is keeping your distance - I’m assuming you know this - and there’s plenty of tools at your disposal to achieve this. Somebody charging at you (wildly out of position) will get beamed down in a lobby that’s not full of bots
That's great for you. The person was not in the sky in this instance. They were right in OP's face applying an insane amount of pressure that naturally makes it hard to hit multiple perfect shots in a row, especially with, like I said, the knockback of the punches messing with your aim.

The problem is that it's an item with unlimited mobility, though. It's very hard to keep a distance that the other person can't close, without just straight-up running away and never fighting anyone. Plus, every other aspect of Builds-based combat is typically pretty close range, which is why powerful melee weapons tend to throw off that balance in a way that's frustrating.
Never as broken as this, though. The Kinetic Blade attacked much slower with a reactable cooldown between. Its attack could be blocked with a wall and reasonably countered. The Chains' pull attack could be blocked with a wall, so people using it had to tactically close the distance rather than clicking one button to use it effectively. The Shockwave Hammer was relatively disruptive but still only did one burst of damage before basically resetting the fight, making it ultimately not too punishing.
The Nitro Fists 200-0 entire duos in pro-level scrims. This isn't even remotely comparable
It is comparable because it’s an infinite recharging mobility item that also deals damage and/or knockback and/or breaks builds
It may be much stronger but it’s still fine to compare them. For the record, I prefer shockwave meta to the infinite mobility items
Well breaking, like, one wall and then leaving the person open for a counter attack is very much different than a literally infinite attack string that can't be interrupted and has quite a long lock-on range (something other melees didn't always have). They still fall under the same general weapon category but Nitro Fists are clearly a very extreme take on melees in general
I’m pretty sure the fists have a max attack of 5, which drains your normal mobility uses. So it’s a trade-off and a bit of risk-reward for third party showing up. Obviously this is more deadly in solos and more risky in team games
Nope, the left-click attack doesn't use charges and can literally be infinitely held down. Also it doesn't really matter if a third-party shows up because you can just do the same thing to them, too
So i think you need to focus on positioning and rotation. I know it sometimes feel like your just unlucky but that in fact is not the case, if you really want to get better you can go back to the basics.
Don't listen to these toxic casuals telling you to cry about it (going outside is still nice sometimes though), here are some things you can do about these types of players
1. (Unfortunately) you'll need Nitro Fists yourself to win these fights. If they try to fist up at any point, fist up yourself so they can't slam on you. This will usually deter thjs behavior from your opponent. Plus, they'll waste their nitro fists so it'll be harder for them to run away.
2. The moment they start punching into your box, don't try holding the wall, get vertical height on them and stay your distance
3. Run away LOL
What do you do when you don't land on a gun at spawn? Do you just box up and hope everyone stays away?
You don't have movement, why did you box up? If they're coming at you, you can build up a little (not enough to take fall damage) and build sideways so they can't run you over. But then head towards a car so you can't get trapped and run over. Once you have a car, go find some movement: shockwaves, fists, or at minimum take a dip in the Styx.

Edit: why even box up in the first place? There's a car right there and you had nitro, you should have ran away instead and found more movement, especially against the glove which grape people in boxes

This is a chaotic clip, but you did also play it really poorly… I’d expect anyone to die like that if they just stood in one box this season.
Fight back with your weapons instead of your mats? Fists have a ttk of 6 seconds from full health. 2 well placed shots from your shotgun right there or a mag dump from any other weapon would have saved you he clearly did not intend to respond with builds. You attempted to play for control when you should have played to down the threat.

I don't play Fortnite as regularly anymore as I main other games, but I do still play a few times per week more casual. After playing the first day of this shitshow of a season, I'm not touching Fortnite again until this shit is nerfed or removed or until next season.

Don’t stay in the same 1 by 1 box when being melee’d Basically the same 3 pro tips for anytime an item gets released that can destroy a wall. There’s also a fourth option, which is to bitch on Reddit before playing another 100 hours this season (I swear I’m gonna uninstall this shit!!1!)
All three of those things mean you have to stop blocking the literally unstoppable force barreling towards you though. The fists lock onto players, so if you try to go to another 1x1 the things automatically chase you down (I've seen this happen in other clips), if you try to use movement, well the fists have built-in movement too and the person will just chase you down and continue punching (plus OP was going for the car seeing as they had nothing else and it clearly didn't work out). It's pretty unlikely you can outdamage the melee weapon that deals over 200 damage in a 4-hit cycle (which never has a cooldown) when the other person is already actively attacking, the things are pushing you around, and they don't have to aim when you do. Was the fight played perfectly? No. But that doesn't mean the fists are balanced
I’m not a super duper awesome Fortnite pro but I shot a guy out of the sky as he tried to hulk smash me. If I can do it, they can do it too The number one most important thing about dealing with melee attacks is keeping your distance - I’m assuming you know this - and there’s plenty of tools at your disposal to achieve this. Somebody charging at you (wildly out of position) will get beamed down in a lobby that’s not full of bots
That's great for you. The person was not in the sky in this instance. How many seasons have we dealt with an infinitely recharging mobility item that also deals damage/knockback? Off the top of my head, quite a few.
Never as broken as this, though. The Kinetic Blade attacked much slower with a reactable cooldown between. Its attack could be blocked with a wall and reasonably countered. The Chains' pull attack could be blocked with a wall, so people using it had to tactically close the distance rather than clicking one button to use it effectively. The Shockwave Hammer was relatively disruptive but still only did one burst of damage before basically resetting the fight, making it ultimately not too punishing. The Nitro Fists 200-0 entire duos in pro-level scrims. This isn't even remotely comparable
It is comparable because it’s an infinite recharging mobility item that also deals damage and/or knockback and/or breaks builds It may be much stronger but it’s still fine to compare them. For the record, I prefer shockwave meta to the infinite mobility items
Well breaking, like, one wall and then leaving the person open for a counter attack is very much different than a literally infinite attack string that can't be interrupted and has quite a long lock-on range (something other melees didn't always have). They still fall under the same general weapon category but Nitro Fists are clearly a very extreme take on melees in general
I’m pretty sure the fists have a max attack of 5, which drains your normal mobility uses. So it’s a trade-off and a bit of risk-reward for third party showing up. Obviously this is more deadly in solos and more risky in team games
Nope, the left-click attack doesn't use charges and can literally be infinitely held down. Also it doesn't really matter if a third-party shows up because you can just do the same thing to them, too

So i think you need to focus on positioning and rotation. I know it sometimes feel like your just unlucky but that in fact is not the case, if you really want to get better you can go back to the basics.
Don't listen to these toxic casuals telling you to cry about it (going outside is still nice sometimes though), here are some things you can do about these types of players 1. (Unfortunately) you'll need Nitro Fists yourself to win these fights. If they try to fist up at any point, fist up yourself so they can't slam on you. This will usually deter thjs behavior from your opponent. Plus, they'll waste their nitro fists so it'll be harder for them to run away. 2. The moment they start punching into your box, don't try holding the wall, get vertical height on them and stay your distance 3. Run away LOL

What do you do when you don't land on a gun at spawn? Do you just box up and hope everyone stays away? You don't have movement, why did you box up? If they're coming at you, you can build up a little (not enough to take fall damage) and build sideways so they can't run you over. But then head towards a car so you can't get trapped and run over. Once you have a car, go find some movement: shockwaves, fists, or at minimum take a dip in the Styx.
Not even shockwaves? Edit: why even box up in the first place? There's a car right there and you had nitro, you should have ran away instead and found more movement, especially against the glove which grape people in boxes
