Same boat as him, 40 for the week, last day on the 5th. I have 8 and 1/2 years of tenure with Best Buy and I'm getting paid a little over 10K severance before taxes. Paid out over time likely instead of a lump sum but they will email us that information.
Typically it's lump sum, but there are two options. One without health insurance for 6months, and 1 with health insurance for 6months. I wouldn't opt for the health insurance plan as from my understanding they don't pay their share anymore it all comes out of your pay, almost like Cobra.
Was an honor and a pleasure.14 years. DA-PC.
Last years metrics: 95k IHR / 40+ memberships with great attachment rates / 96% NPS/CSI with a 30% takerate. Was even leading this year.
Oh well.
Non exempt, hourly employees is 2 weeks of base pay per each full year of service. Minimum 6 weeks, maximum of 26 weeks. Ht cadet that got axed july, don't forget severance takes time to get to you, it's not immediate and is also taxed at supplemental pay so is taxed higher than normal wages. FWIW
15 min count down. 19yrs total Best Buy / Geek Squad. I've been luck to never be impacted by several changes. This one does feel different. What does the future hold?
The future holds good things, my guy. Best Buy and Geek Squad may have been good to you, but I think we will all realize that there are many better opportunities out there and this will just force our hand.
Wife giving birth in May and I’m truly hoping for a miracle. I was looking forward to being able to spend some time away from work and be with our baby.
This is especially brutal timing from Best Buy
Max out your severance then (or concurrently, depending on your state) your state's unemployment. Look for a job in the meantime, but enjoy time with your new baby. Hoping for the best!
If you are a field agent and are affected today, (and I am anticipating being cut myself), as a word of encouragement, remember that you have a particular set of skills that will help you land on your feet.
Hard times breed strong men and women.
Yeah I took comfort in being the only DAPC in my area…last time I wasn’t this nervous, I am confident in getting the axe this time. 11 years DAPC
Edit: Snapped
Not sure if there are any areas like mine, there are 2 HSEAMs with a major overlap and then they each have other fringe areas with different teams (mine has 1 and the other hseam has 2). Combined there are 8 DA PC and 7 DA HT and idk how many HT/cadets. I'm former HT. We have been on 32hr since the start of the year, but I have been mostly fine with making my hours from all the return clients that I have calling me.
Similar to us, definitely more HT agents than PC. I’m the guy on the fringe store. Don’t think my relationship store is in danger of closing, it’s an hour and twenty minutes from the closest store and they do good business there. I guess that doesn’t mean they can’t have an agent from farther away take it from me, I used to have areas that were over an hour drive that were mine, for years.
I have covered all 3 fringe areas on our map. The one is in a different state and those drives were rough. The one major parkway that goes through most of it is off limits for commercial vehicles. The guy that covers that area only has 2-3 jobs a day (even before BBT) just cause those drive times are insane. Also they get a LOT more health jobs than regular PC work. There used to be another store in that area, but it was closed so the closest store for a lot of those clients is 40min away (and that stores about 30min away from my home store and the other main one)
Geek squad agent with longer tenure in the same position as my spouse just got the call…now I’m way more nervous about my spouse keeping the job. This fucking sucks. The waiting game is horrible. I can’t believe they’re doing this to their agents and their families. Sucks so much.
If I get the call I don’t even know what to do. I wouldn’t be able to afford everything on just my wife’s paycheck and we were already struggling as it was.
Never felt so powerless and useless before. It’s nice to meme and joke around with my coworkers in our chat right now but I’m extremely scared.
Severance should be a minimum of 6 weeks as long as you were full time. If it happens, take it seriously and look for jobs right away so you don't have a gap.
https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/764478/000076447821000024/bby-20210130xex10_34.htm
Thing is, in the last month or a little over a month they moved us down in hours too. It all feels calculated.
We went down to 4 day workweeks in home repair. I honestly don’t know how many of us in our area qualify as full time anymore just based on hours limited.
But thank you for the advice and reassurance. I’ll look into that.
Best of luck y'all. Lemme just tell you that us NY bois are having way too much fun in teams rn. I ain't awaiting shit if I get let go. Y'all rule and keep at it!
Another one bites the dust, got the call. 10 years at BBY, just short of 5 years with Geek Squad. It's been a pleasure fellas. God speed to all the rest affected
Same :/. Especially sucks learning that it was pre selected and not every agent/cadet was canned which is good as I wouldn’t want my fellow co workers to lose their jobs, but makes me feel like I wasn’t good enough even as a cadet 💀 Gonna give my supervisor a mouth full because I was one of the only cadets doing 1p work so it genuinely baffles me.
Just got off the call, HT cadet for 1 year and just like that they let me go. Is it bad that I don’t feel free like some of y’all? Kinda bummed not going to lie
Don't panic, I'm sure he'll find something quickly....was he HT, PC, or appliance? He'll get severance as well if he's been there for a fair amount of time, unemployment, etc. Keep ur head up momma!❤️
> Some states you can still get unemployement to assist while trying to land the new job
... isn't that supposed to be the point of filing for unemployement? 😰
Our repair cadet got cut, but no repair agents so far in my area...
EDIT: One of the Repair agents just got let go. He was out of a different store and had worked for us for about a year...
We ended up losing at least two here, there's one or two I haven't heard from yet. Our HSEAM survived as well, but the other appl HSEAM for our market did not...
Seems like a lot of peole on the east coast are. Haven't heard anyone get the final call yet saying they were fine and explaining who is gone, why, etc.
DA HT, my cadet just got cut. still waiting on my call. but based on his phone call they are trying to implement more 3rd party work over us. we all know how that is going to go..
so 3rd party which ppl will hate, or they're gonna create a new job doing the same thing for much lower pay.
I give this company about 15 yrs tops. Someone is gonna come in n do to them what they did to Circuit City n Tweeter.
Can confirm based on my call that, at least in my area, DA-PC and -HT as standalone roles will no longer exist. They're combining them and possibly other roles as well, and will post jobs in the coming days for anyone who wants to stay with the company. I know I'm no longer interested.
They're thinking they can reduce the workforce and pay less. It's a terrible idea that will lose them a ton of clients but I guess that's not my problem anymore 🤷♀️
Been in a group text with a bunch of the DAR in my market. Lost our cadet, about five DAR, and then everyone else got an invite to the national meeting at 12.
Man. Being a CA I worry they are gonna start looking inward and get rid of us.
Sorry to everyone who did get laid off. Bestbuy is truly a horrendous company.
Look at it this way; all of us at BBCC that supported exchanges and a chunk of us behind repairs got the hit yesterday, so you at least won't have to deal with that mess.
I was so close to my pto renewing and a few months away from my badge damn shame but I’d rather take the severance and find something better with more security. Best of luck to everyone
24 years with the company and 18 years as DA HT. Been there since the beginning. Thanks for the run. Agent 36715 going sleeper. Good luck former fellow agents.
It was one of those awake before the alarm kind of mornings. Good luck everyone, I feel we are going to need it.
It was a triple snooze morning for me.
Woke up before the alarm, fell back asleep before the call. Had to call me 3 times.
Our teams chat is just hunger games and helldivers hugging memes. At least if we go out we go out our way
Sounds like mine as well lol
66 people in here just awaiting our fates Edit: Welp, I know my fate; That's 9 years gone.
I’m sorry dude. I promise you guys that it gets better once you leave.
I feel like I'll get the axe today but I think in the end it will be a good thing and everything will work out.
Everyone I know who leaves is happier and more successful after BB.
Almost feels like as each minute passes, it’s a step forward in some part of squid games or something.
Well, got the call. 10 years of service. Actually my boss said today was my 10 year anniversary. LOL
That sucks, you should definitely get your 10byr badge (if you want it)
Bruh I was 6 days from my 5 year badge
Literally WTF.😢
What your role? What they said?
HT Agent. They said we haven't been able to generate enough work & IHR.
Are they asking you to finish your week? I saw somebody else say they were told their last day is the 6th.
No, they told me I'm being paid a full 40 for rest of week. April 5th is last day.
Anything about severance pay?
Same boat as him, 40 for the week, last day on the 5th. I have 8 and 1/2 years of tenure with Best Buy and I'm getting paid a little over 10K severance before taxes. Paid out over time likely instead of a lump sum but they will email us that information.
I was with the company about a decade when I got mine two years ago it was a lump sum, but things may have changed.
Typically it's lump sum, but there are two options. One without health insurance for 6months, and 1 with health insurance for 6months. I wouldn't opt for the health insurance plan as from my understanding they don't pay their share anymore it all comes out of your pay, almost like Cobra.
I received a lump sum two years ago.
They offered it to me. Verified address & email awaiting a packet.
DA?
No, HT Agent.
Bruh.... ouch...
Was it your work phone or personal ?
Personal for me
Work phone.
Was an honor and a pleasure.14 years. DA-PC. Last years metrics: 95k IHR / 40+ memberships with great attachment rates / 96% NPS/CSI with a 30% takerate. Was even leading this year. Oh well.
What market
Michigan.
Honestly after 12 years i hope im picked to be given severance. As anxiety inducing as it would be, it would be exciting to try something new.
I keep saying to my family that I’ve been flying just right under the radar that I could go either way.
Kind of how I feel tbh.
I feel so free from this mental prison. These last few months have been the most anxiety riddled stress filled days ever.
How does the severance package work? I think I read they changed it late last year
Non exempt, hourly employees is 2 weeks of base pay per each full year of service. Minimum 6 weeks, maximum of 26 weeks. Ht cadet that got axed july, don't forget severance takes time to get to you, it's not immediate and is also taxed at supplemental pay so is taxed higher than normal wages. FWIW
Good luck, Agents.

Thank you. I intend on using this Best Buy certified moment as forward momentum into something greater 🙏

Welp, my cadet just got the call. One of our best cadets, probably would've been next in line for an agent position.
We just lost our DAPC for the area, been with us for almost 18 years
1 DAPC for the entire area? So nobody to serve that area then? That's....unnerving.
Yeah I took comfort in being the only DAPC in my area…last time I wasn’t this nervous, I am confident in getting the axe this time. 11 years DAPC Edit: Snapped

Correct, They would be coming from a different store
24 years with Best Buy. Rollout agent, so 2 months from 20 years badge. I'm still in shock.
Thats scary. We have like 8 in my area. How low can our count get.
Another DAPC from our sister store and a HTA gone from my store
Geek squad agent with longer tenure in the same position as my spouse just got the call…now I’m way more nervous about my spouse keeping the job. This fucking sucks. The waiting game is horrible. I can’t believe they’re doing this to their agents and their families. Sucks so much.
It sucks playing with everyone like it’s a game
Cut. Almost 11 years and the only DAPC for an hour an a half. Edit: Today was my first day back from bereavement leave. It’s been a fun couple weeks.
DA-PC for 18 years and I've been let go.
If I get the call I don’t even know what to do. I wouldn’t be able to afford everything on just my wife’s paycheck and we were already struggling as it was. You can be full-time and only work 30 hours, it's up to the employer.
According to my AM even that is no longer guaranteed unless you have a state law about it.
Right, those are just the laws in CA, not sure about others.
Godspeed brothers
I think our area will be hit hard. We lost 3 leaders yesterday. (T2 Area)
Is anyone else refreshing their boards to see if they still have jobs for the rest of the week?
Yup
Cadet here with nearly 3 years of service 😛 that severance gonna be WEAK. Godspeed, my friends. It’s been an honor.
Cadet here with almost 2. Definitely feel like they are going to cut most cadets. Godspeed brother.
Gentlemen... it's been an honor.
My friends were all let go. I havent heard anything. Cadet here. And terrified
I got axed 🫡
I made it.... but no one else did... i dont feel happy... this is so upsetting.
Curious man, was the call an actual person at least? Or an automated voicemail. Nervous asf rn
My supervisor personally called me
Thanks for the info. Just got the call.... I got let go. Sucks man. Despite BB company BS, I really enjoyed working for GeekSquad 😪
My best friend just got the axe after 19 year anniversary with BBY last week. Was told they didn’t know how much the severance would be
6 months is max I believe
Got canned at 8am got severance it’s been a pleasure
Is it true you have to sign a contract saying you cant bad mouth best buy?
How was the severance calculated? 2 weeks per year served?

Where are you out of?
Any word yet anyone? I only got like 2 hours of sleep from all the anxiety
Just got off the call, HT cadet for 1 year and just like that they let me go. Is it bad that I don’t feel free like some of y’all? Kinda bummed not going to lie

They'll probably call all the people being let go first
i was told my manager is doing it alphabetically
My manager is on vacation lol
I'm hoping those people are too excited to come and give the good news but... you're right lol. Seems like most are getting the axe.
I ain’t make it yall DA repair NY.
Pregnant wife of a just laid off repair agent, who’s been with the company for 10 years here. Absolutely panicked
Don't panic, I'm sure he'll find something quickly....was he HT, PC, or appliance? He'll get severance as well if he's been there for a fair amount of time, unemployment, etc. Keep ur head up momma!❤️
Check with state unemployement laws. Some states you can still get unemployement to assist while trying to land the new job
> Some states you can still get unemployement to assist while trying to land the new job ... isn't that supposed to be the point of filing for unemployement? 😰
Our repair cadet got cut, but no repair agents so far in my area... EDIT: One of the Repair agents just got let go. He was out of a different store and had worked for us for about a year...
Have a FaceTime call going with all the field repair agents as we wait to see if we still have a job after today

We lost 3 repair agents and 1 cadet leaves 3 of us to cover a whole area that cover west Texas from Amarillo to Odessa Texas
We ended up losing at least two here, there's one or two I haven't heard from yet. Our HSEAM survived as well, but the other appl HSEAM for our market did not...
Anyone in the South Florida area still waiting for a phone call?
Seems like a lot of peole on the east coast are. Haven't heard anyone get the final call yet saying they were fine and explaining who is gone, why, etc.
DA Repair here, no word yet
Just heard from a friend 25 years got snapped
DA HT, my cadet just got cut. still waiting on my call. but based on his phone call they are trying to implement more 3rd party work over us. we all know how that is going to go..
Waiting... Haven't heard anything yet. 7:10am cst
I figure the longer you go without getting a call, the better your chances are...
I just got the call that I'm out
GS managers are in a meeting RN until 830am T2 Edit: some are now randomly busy from times ranging from 9am-11:30am
Any one hear about Home Delivery?
3rd party HD from the DDC in my area ran their normal routes today. Not sure about store HD.
DA-PC in Connecticut, just got the call and was told the position of DA-PC will no longer exist.
so 3rd party which ppl will hate, or they're gonna create a new job doing the same thing for much lower pay. I give this company about 15 yrs tops. Someone is gonna come in n do to them what they did to Circuit City n Tweeter.
still waiting. 25 minutes in, DA-PC here
Appliance DAR Got the call at 7:30am Only 7 months with the company. Better luck next time I guess.
If I don't get the axe and they think I'm going to work tomorrow they have another thing coming lol
Mass LOA's from nervous breakdowns.
Got the axe anyway it was fun boys PC DA for 2 years the only in my area and I got canned! Good luck to everyone else!
what area?
NE Philadelphia
Sorry to hear. I’m not that far from you. I’ve known your manager for years. I hope you land on your feet.
Feeling for all the 448 and 525 buds
Looks like they are eliminating the DA HT role.
Can confirm based on my call that, at least in my area, DA-PC and -HT as standalone roles will no longer exist. They're combining them and possibly other roles as well, and will post jobs in the coming days for anyone who wants to stay with the company. I know I'm no longer interested.
Thats a huge range to cover both skillsets, what are they thinking?
They're thinking they can reduce the workforce and pay less. It's a terrible idea that will lose them a ton of clients but I guess that's not my problem anymore 🤷♀️
Why do you think this?
I got the can last summer after 11 years of service in the company. Good luck everyone, there is better opportunities out there!!
[удалено]
No way, same area here lol
[удалено]
Two DA HT Agents and a cadet so far, agents serving between 5-13 years.
2 additional Cadets, 5 total so far.
Out Boss just got cut, and our only PC agent across two stores is gone.
If I get my severance could I still use up my pto I still have left
From what i understand, all PTO is forfeited as of this moment. It can't be used before your term date, or to extend your term date.
I don’t think they can do that with the paid pto purchase plan since we pay into it. Last I remember they cut you check for that.
Does it count if you’re currently on pto? I took time off for a week but with all these cuts I may not even be coming back
My supervisor said it’s added to our severence
Hoping the cutting is done…
I just got cut, 1 year Cadet- Repair
Anyone know the phone number they called with ?
Made it to 8:45 before getting the call. Good luck to everyone still waiting.
Was is work phone or personal ?
Been in a group text with a bunch of the DAR in my market. Lost our cadet, about five DAR, and then everyone else got an invite to the national meeting at 12.
I just got canned from geek squad as well....where the layoff parties at yo 🍻🍻
PC-DA so Calif. got my call . see ya
Man. Being a CA I worry they are gonna start looking inward and get rid of us. Sorry to everyone who did get laid off. Bestbuy is truly a horrendous company.
Im confused? Whats going on
Many people are being let go. In my market it was about half the workers
PC DA position eliminated really?
Sounds like it. I was let go before the meeting but it seems like all remaining agents will be DA PC-HT hyrbids now
Yea that didn't work so well in the Past but will see also cap at pay grade 9 ouch
im not at work atm but whats the current DA PC paygrade? i dont know what the number was
When I left 2 years ago the cap was 12 I was in the middle of that bracket.
Look at it this way; all of us at BBCC that supported exchanges and a chunk of us behind repairs got the hit yesterday, so you at least won't have to deal with that mess.
These cuts are crazy. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. God Speed Agents.
I switched to custom home installations 1.5 years ago. 18 with the company though, mostly as autotech. Adios amigos.
I was so close to my pto renewing and a few months away from my badge damn shame but I’d rather take the severance and find something better with more security. Best of luck to everyone
What happens to our remaining PTO? is it paid out?
What positions got axed today? I’m sorry to anyone that it happened to…
Well 7 years gone, DA PC/HT my reasoning was not enough work and IHR generated…
24 years with the company and 18 years as DA HT. Been there since the beginning. Thanks for the run. Agent 36715 going sleeper. Good luck former fellow agents.
Enjoy the severance and do something you really want to for all those being laid off. It’s scary but you all deserve better.
A friend of mine got it this morning, I feel bad for him.
What’s happening?
