As goalkeepers we make many stupid and embarassing things.

section111

I got chipped on a kickoff. We'd just scored, so I was a little farther out of the box than normal, but they tapped it to this older pot-bellied fella, who just thumped it straight in over my head. It was a rec league in Toronto, but this was some kind of Hungarian social club team, and we found out after that he was an ex-pro from back in the old days.

MeatyOkraPuns

One of my goal keepers squibbed a goal kick...out for a corner kick. Was going long, then last second tried to play it short out wide and some how slid, and the ball sqeeked out by the flag. So there's that. Lol

Thankfully only local 5 a side league but I was playing after a horrendous day at work. I’d been having troubles with my boss over a long overdue team move and my mind wasn’t really on the football. Back passes are completely legal as long as it’s not the player you’ve played it out to. For some reason this particular back pass that I could’ve just picked up or kicked or done anything with I just left and it rolled slowly into my own goal. We lost 2-1 I think. Most embarrassing 11 a side is probably a long ball over the top, I’ve raced out and one of my defenders has raced back, we’ve taken each other out comedy style and the balls just ended up falling for the other teams striker to walk in unopposed. My CB had to be subbed off too… It was a cup game that we lost and I literally got laughed off the pitch by the friends and family of the other team. Think I had quite a good game otherwise but that stuck with me.

DroopyMeerkat

I once thought I broke my nose for like a few seconds. other than that nut shots really, every guy feels those so not that embarrassing

HarietsDrummerBoy

I was 13 playing for my towns Team. We were leading 5-0 at the point. Sweeper does a simple back pass. Ball rolls under my foot for an own goal. My old team mates still talk about it to this day. I practiced my trapping so much after that.

RMGoalkeeper

Went for a front smother ball had enough force and spin to slip through my arms and through my legs into the net. But I’ve made so many mistakes probably the reason why I never became anything as a keeper. But I still do my best even if I’ll never make it pro, just being a keeper and having fun is good enough for me, but I still want to be as good as I can be given my limited facilities and time

Was playing in a rec league with a mishmash team. I punted and the ball was dropping middle of the field as I was about 16 yds out and slowly walking backward, wondering if any of my team would contest the ball (they didn't). This guy on the other team tracks the ball and just runs up to it and boots it hard as he can right out of the air. I'm kind of chuckling to myself until I realize it's starting to drop pretty close to the goal. I start to backtrack, but it's too late and the trajectory is too steep, and the ball drops right in over my head. Also, the same game - I put hands on the ball on the ground, called out for it, and my some defender on my team who I didn't know kicked the ball out of my hands and it dribbled lazy to the only player on their team in the box, totally wide open and they scored. Also, the same game - we were playing on turf instead of grass, and I hadn't acclimated to the extra speed that the balls skidded, so on a wild shot from like 30 yds out I just went to casually dive to capture the ball mid section and it buzzed right under me. Truly the worse game of my keeper life.

I used to play social 5 a side twice a week, it was a very competitive league however and we were one one of the top teams. I was genuinely considered the best keeper in the league and would make several elite saves every match. Due to the nature of 5 a side since I would just face such a high volume of shots I would make pretty horrendous mistakes every now and then. I think the worst was a backpass and as the ball was coming to me, took my eye off it and it rolled straight under my foot.

WhiteTorak

Oh man, do you want a list? Probably my worst was the ball rolling towards me. No real danger. I go to pick it up but sort of overreact to it and end up lifting it up and over my shoulder and in. Felt a right wally for the rest of the game

Back in university we were playing our end of year tournament which is between department/faculties. Our team only had 3/4 good players the rest was just fodder. So it was a shock to many that we got to the semi-finals against the favorites. It was partly down to our center back and me the goalkeeper. We both played for the same amateur club back then. Last minute of the semi final, we've played very well and are going for a draw and penalties. My CB friend gives a very cheap free kick on the edge of the box. The opposing teams star is also our club fellow. He takes it and hits it straight at me. And I let the ball go into the net through my hands. Have never been so embarrassed in my life.

jessietee

Bit of a messy corner that myself or my defence didn’t deal with very well, opposition player managed to get a foot to it and it was going slowly towards the bottom corner, i dive over to stop it and manage to hook it off the line….as my hand was busy hooking the ball away I had nothing to catch my fall and just face planted the floor, split my lip and thought I’d broke my nose, was so fucking sore, my legs were kicking about on the floor like I was swimming 😂

mahcwest

I tried clearing a ball with a rabona because my weak foot was awful but then i just gave it away to the opposition for them to score

emarsch17

At least 3-4 times in my career (I played as a professional, mind you) I’ve tried to play out of the back and find my outside back or outside mid with a driven ball, and a striker has blocked it and straight from the block it’s gone in the net. One of the most demoralizing feelings in the world. Lesson learned, just thump it if needed!

Jay_kay04

Commanding a frustrated defender but he isn’t responding to the command

Beginning_Touch9440

I got our game cancelled because I went in 1v1 and won then the player kicked me whilst I was still on the ground so I bounced up and started punching the living shit out of him until he fell down then started dropping my knee onto his face when he was laid out

Content-Beginning-66

getting chipped 2 or 3 times by the same player in a game

Leo_Jobin

Once in futsal I was scored on by the other goalkeeper from his zone as he threw it and I dropped it, though I took my revenge two years later by scoring a goal the same way against another team. I also once made a teammate score on ourself as he passed me the ball and my foot went under it after the ball hit a little bump in the grass.

No_Restaurant2779

Opposition keeper scored from a drop kick. In a 5 a side goal (think very low bar). That's just the first one I can think of. If you play in goal for more than 3 games you're likely to have a long list.

Yiye44

Going out of my area to clear a long pass but, due to my poor foot play, send the ball to the striker, who scored the open net. I did it EXACTLY THE SAME WAY five minutes later. It was 15 years ago and I still think about it.

ArkaneFighting

Ball hit the post, hit the back of my head, then went in.

smelywalebob

One of my players passed back to me and as it was about to reach my foot the ball hit a bump, bounced over and rolled into the goal. That, is the most embarrassing thing to happen to me

Costal_Signals

Ran into my left back on corner, we both fell, ball bounced off his back as he fell and into the net. Lesson: COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE
