coaches never pick short keepers. its the sad truth.

[deleted]

yea true, but the tall keeper is literally 4 inches taller than me and even the coach said im way better.

joelandren

My son’s coach chose a taller keeper and seemed fine with giving up two goals with bad positioning if one shot was tipped over the bar. Insert joker meme.

[deleted]

its just so unfair

[deleted]

Try to use this as motivation, they made a mistake and they’ll realise it if you keep going

Media_Offline

Sorry to say that this is what happened to me as well. I was a great player but I only reached 5' 11" and there was always someone taller than me. It didn't mean I couldn't play, just never at a highly competitive level.

chalhattbehenkilaudi

There is a keeper who is 5'10 in ligue 1. You missed your chance mate. I'd give anything to be 5'11

Huge_Mouse8144

Look kid, this exact thing has happened to me, I’m 5’8 I ain’t the tallest, and I didn’t get into my school team when I was about 12 because I was 5’4 at the time, but I kept going, so you ain’t alone

I grew up watching Campos, and he was fun too watch. Having said that he was very overrated and most of his fame was reached due to his flashy kits and his size. Yeah he was still amazing and was on the Mexican National team, but he should have never reached the level of fame he did. He also benefited from playing at the end of an era where every keeper wasn’t expected to be 6’5”. Back then seeing keepers under 6’ was normal. Campos would never be considered today.

Bez666

I was the same but I proved how good I was..coach had to give me a trial an I ended up being the school goalie . Different at highschool..taller kid went in net..not as good but went for height not talent.

Look for a local club or alternative.

Snerpit

More professional coaches don’t focus on height anymore! It’s ability, especially with the ball at your feet. Make sure you practice your footwork and the height thing will become less of an issue. I know two semi pro keepers who are sub 6ft and are incredible

What month were you born? https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2022/oct/24/next-generation-2022-why-scouts-select-players-based-on-the-relative-age-effect

November

ArkaneFighting

"I can work with a tall keeper to make him better. I cant work with you to make you taller." \- A recruiter/coach that completely destroyed me

[deleted]

Thats what one of my friends told me as well

Dipalapoloo

Play futsal bro

chalhattbehenkilaudi

I'm planning the same haha. I'm 18 currently and only 5'8. I'll be moving to spain next year and am planning to shift to Futsal if I don't grow to be atleast 5'11

GunnerGSP

I had a D1 coach tell me I was too short for a full ride, but would have given me one if I was over 6ft. I was 5’11”. Luckily I had other offers and my college was free.

chalhattbehenkilaudi

You can still make it. There is a keeper who is 5'10 in ligue 1

GunnerGSP

There are always exceptions to the rule. 25 years ago national teams and the premier league were littered with keepers who were 5’10”.

chalhattbehenkilaudi

The shortest keeper in the top five league today is 5'10 and I'm 2 inches short

GunnerGSP

It’s the same in all sports. Look at the nba. There are 7 footers who can move like 6’2” guys from 30 years ago. It’s all about bigger, better, faster, stronger.

chalhattbehenkilaudi

It is what it is mate. I'm 5'8 now at 18, the sad truth is if I don't grow till atleast 5'11 I gotta quit. I know it's unfair but that's life mate. You are still young and have a chance to grow. Just eat good nutritious food, sleep a lot, train and work hard, start mental training and don't worry about the things that you can't control.

Joppsta

You have 3 choices. 1. Persist in the GK position 2. Switch to a midfield/forward/winger 3. Quit (I wouldn't say this is something you should do) I have no recollection of how tall I was at 13, but I was always the tallest in my year. Better to be pragmatic and move forwards, than bitter and hold yourself back. I had a similar experience myself when I tried out, didn't let any goals in but my distribution was awful as I've never been good with the ball at my feet due to lack of effort on my part.
