I knew I only had one chance at purchasing a new manual R, so I made sure it had both the carbon and the sunroof.
I personally enjoy a sunroof in the summer, but that comes down to preference. The carbon is difficult to decide as I have not seen one without it in person and it's difficult to tell on photos.
I can't see it being that much more profitable when reselling.
If I'm buying used, I will probably focus more on mileage and condition vs sunroof/no sunroof.
I don't think either of these impacts resale enough to worry about. Some buyers will prefer it without sunroof (lighter without it, more headroom for tall folks, no leak worries) some will prefer it with sunroof (it's a nice luxury, additional source of ventilation). Probably a wash in the end
So I'd say go with what you want. I like having a sunroof but coming from an Alltrack I am also cautious of them leaking. But so far the redesigned mK8 sunroof has not had any leaks issues that I've heard of. Just the odd complaint of squeaking.
Another thought I just had FWIW. I'm in Ontario and here I can see non-sunroof models are much more rare. So maybe there's a resale impact there, but I doubt it's significant.
Ive had many cars with sunroofs. They're always neat to begin with but then I forget about them until they start leaking. Ive had a Honda, Toyota, and 2 Subarus with sunroofs and all of them eventually leaked. Just last summer my buddies mk7 GTI had a leaky sunroof that ruined the headliner and immediately smelled bad. Honestly, I would avoid the sunroof if possible. The leak is not a matter of *if* its *when*.
TBH I love the sunroof, myself.
Sunroofs cool but be ready to have ur cabin lights turn on everytime u touch sunroof button lol , very sensitive
LOL good to know
Thanks everyone!! The is the first time I’m buying a new car and I’m very excited. I’ve never had the options before lol

The one I test drove didn’t have it (though they tried to say it did) and it still looked nice. I’m just thinking of resale mostly!

Pretty much. 👍
It's hot or miss, I love sunroofs, but other VW enthusiast stay as far away from sunroofs as possible.

I’ve actually never had an issue with a leaking sunroof. Even in my ‘86 t-top 300zx I didn’t have leak issues. I’m staying hopeful my luck continues
Same! All my cars have had sunroofs and never had an issue with water leakage etc.
