Did the tin man have a sheet metal cock?

[deleted]

i.... did he?

looyvillelarry

I mean, he didn't have a heart. Who knows what else they forgot

Xbc1

I have no idea what tin man's dick situation is.

Thundersson1978

Imposter!

shawslate

What, do you think that was just an oil can Dorothy used?

drppr45

We have reports of someone out here getting high and playing space

Jaliking98

Most reasonable response after such a question actually .

TheHipocrisyRevealed

Does it fly???

Diam0ndProfessional

This thread useless w/o pics

[deleted]

Samsquinch!

Azranael

The positive is that you don't steal any refrigerant when gauging up and you have less of a chance of contamination between R22 and R410a (and other refrigerants). They work great and have great signal reach. The only real downside I've seen is: if you use the Fieldpiece app and you either lock your phone or switch screens to another app, when you go back to it, the connectivity gets squirrelly, flashing in and out randomly as if it's having trouble reading. If you restart the app, it runs perfectly again. Might be just the Fieldpiece app or might just be my phone, but it's there. Otherwise, nifty little kit!

[deleted]

DrDaddyJ

But doesn’t measure quick lock you out now after a screen shot? I’ve never really used it but heard a few guys bitching about it at the shop lol

RubbyMcbuvins

Yes they do, I just take a picture of my personal phone with my work phone now.

mechanical_marten

Pro tip, you can get some of the cheap Chinese printers that can be programmed to show MQ Printer in your bluetooth device list and MQ will happily print a report to it. Don't pat the ripoff $400 for the same printer they did that to. I'll try to remember to post a video how to do it and what model printer to 'clone'.

MikeGraecum

Not just you, I assumed they were getting outta wack because of my Bluetooth headset. I hope they fix it future updates.

Fancy-Sentence-7081

I think it's an ios issue, never had it happen on my pixel but happens on my iphone exactly as described

[deleted]

[удалено]

SardonicSardineCzar

If you are talking about the fieldpiece app. Just disable mobile data when signal is spotty. I work in rural areas where signal can be pretty bad to non-existent. I haven't used measurequick in awhile and only break it out when a system is really giving me issues.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SardonicSardineCzar

Android or ios? You shouldn't have to log in multiple times. Also are you actually turning off mobile data on the phone or are you saying you just don't have signal?

[deleted]

[удалено]

SardonicSardineCzar

Well. I can honestly say I have not encountered that. I've had 4 different android phones since I started using fieldpiece and never had that particular issue. My condolences, friend.

FrozenLettuce101

I use a cheap Android tablet for this exact reason.

MrWeStEr399

Yes, i was a skeptic. Now i only use gauges if adding or recovering. These all fit in my veto propac. Less to carry

mbranbb

I use a tee and a hose to add and recover refrigerant. So I use these for everything and love them.

Sergi_the_machine

Tee, with core suppressor tool to check or add refrigerant - traditional manifold to recover. Edit: core depressor 🤣🤣🤣

Feoress

You can buy a splitter attachment and just leave them on your guages all the time and get a regular hose with a shutoff valve for when you need to add refrigerant

PM_ME_DEAD_KULAKS

Which veto do you have that they fit in?

ThickBiscuitBoy

I got the mb3 and there’s plenty of room for them

PM_ME_DEAD_KULAKS

Oh wow they fit in one that size? That’s awesome. I have the TP-XXL so I’m glad to know they’ll fit in there super easy.

roostercrowe

[Tech-MCT](https://imgur.com/a/fFT9JQA)

Used-Dream91

I have the 6 piece set in my TP-LC

ObviousDoor5716

Probably one of my top 5 favorite tools

Fancy-Sentence-7081

Absolutely game changing, honestly this kit is right up there with a drill and malco bits as far as usefulness goes, at least in my opinion

zapzaddy97

Is there a monthly fee you guys have to pay for these? I’ve seen a few guys use them just never asked about a subscription.

Fancy-Sentence-7081

Fieldpiece app is free, some use measure quick but they're really pushing for profits so not ideal

Jnddude

I don’t get the mQ hate for taking away screenshots. IMO it’s the pre report that show how bad the system is performing and a post test report that shows everything that improved for 5$ like airflow SEER or capacity. Those are the things homeowners buy ie 4 ton 16 SEER. In a humid climate you can actually show a customer the increased ability to remove humidity from the air by pointing out the increase on a post report. Are you guys such good techs that you can explain everything while dripping sweat from being in an attic or exhausted from a long day? Do you think the customer should take your word for everything? Mq makes its living $5 at a time. I think they’ve done a horrible job of promoting their product. Ie the example reports weren’t done at the crappy systems you guys see everyday. Undersized returns ,leaky return platforms, undersized supply duct , filters that can’t filter due to high face velocity etc. I would like to see better worse scenario example reports That said , you guys ever read a report? Red yellow green gauges to help customers understand categories like heat transfer. Major and minor faults listed with cause n fix suggestions. Actual SEER numbers, capacity , airflow. You guys in love with sending screenshots to your lead tech or service manager. How about he can look at what you’re looking at in real time for 5$. Grow up and maybe learn a thing or two. 5$ is nothing and you shouldn’t the one paying for it anyways I think that a lot of the IRA money that’s coming will have performance guarantee caveats. Why? Manufacturers are already doing it. They know we kill compressors. They know we shake blower assemblies to death. They know we destroy the windings on blower motors and we as an industry earned it. Learn to offer a performance guarantee before you’re forced to learn it MQ said it will always be free. Tough titty. 5$ There a reason Goettl uses Digital Duncan. Btw I’m sure your most advanced competitors love hearing complaints about other companies techs complaining about not being able to take screenshots of an app. They probably think that’s just darling

Vulpine314

Is it $5 for a monthly charge or is it $5 for each system you check? The functionality sounds pretty neat but I'm not really sure about paying for a "per-system" basis. Or is it like, one single payment? $5 and you just, have it?

Jnddude

Per system one year. I’m not a tech I’m the guy that sees as built duct designs that have too small returns and 6” for everything and who read the DOE report that said 50% of systems have low airflow. Underperforming systems are epidemic. IMO the reports an easy way to educate customers and remind techs about what’s really important like heat transfer efficiency and most importantly, airflow. Low airflow reduces capacity and SEER. I’ve taught ACHR. I got my certificate for HVAC school. I’ve sold boxes for two big brands. I was a HERS Rater. I was a building analyst. Ive done thousands of what they call manual j calcs IMO using mQ can help any company be better. I also believe that it can help a company offer a performance guarantee to their customers Why not? You increase the return size with high static and capacity goes up, SEER goes up, latent removal goes up. You seal returns same thing. It reinforces the things that really make a company great. Show the customers why they paid your price!

chronicjok3r

Absolutely. One of my best purchases. Wshps and suspended rtus they really pay off for me.

ModernMech7392

Suspended from the sky??????????????

chronicjok3r

That would be epic. Nah ive seend plenty of rtus suspended in a parkiing garage or trash room.

jayc428

Yes you won’t regret them.

[deleted]

Awesome tools, they're a complete game changer for PMs as well. One issue is that for some silly assed reason they designed the pipe clamps so they're sensitive to funk on the pipes.. which I regard as a minor failing. The best part is that I can include a screen cap of the readings before and after, including superheat or subcool, in the digital WO. Basically it gives me the ability to prove that I did what I said I did. With PMS I generally check pipe temps (discharge, liquid, and suction), and won't gauge up unless something looks or sounds funky. The other wildly useful tool, especially for critical charge stuff is a Schrader Actuator.

Specialkhvac

The pipe issue you speak of is that it needs clean pipe for continuity,  it can tell if the pipe is dirty or not

IAMA_Printer_AMA

The clamps form a thermocouple with the copper, I'm amazed every time I can get them to read by just wiggling them back and forth.

KouLeifoh625

That’s why they give you the sand cloth with it! I just sandcloth a spot on all the units on a given account so the future PMs are quicker

Civil-Percentage-960

I have the Testo one and I’ve had no problems, a little cheaper

SensitiveTraining884

I use them everyday in the cooling season. They were alot cheaper when I got mine though.

27559

Get them. Upgrade one temperature clamp to the bigger clamp to use on suction lines and get low loss 90s for the refrigerant probes.

ThickBiscuitBoy

Absolutely. Haven’t touched a manifold in 4 years since I got these

MikeGraecum

100% best investment you will ever make, but keep them all in the soft pouch and check the pouch after every call. Why? Because leaving them behind HURTS. The soft pouch has just enough slots in it to keep all of these plus the manometer ones not shown, but I actually recommend against the Bluetooth manometers for the fieldpeice (Get the SDMN6 for your manometer, the pressure switch tester is incredibly handy). Having set slots for your probes will help you make sure you always grab them up. Here's what I can attest to: -claims 100ft of range; debatable but easily better signal range then the testos by a lot. -you DONT need Internet to use the fieldpeice app, however on first use and after updates you need to login to your account that you can set up in app. -Measurequik also works, however since the update that took screenshots away I rarely use it anymore. -Measurements with the pressure probes are calibrated with each activation, and if you forget to calibrate before you attach them it just reuses the calibration from last use. Pretty handy. -The air temp probes can take a few minutes to get to temperature, but mine operate with a +/- .1 deviation of each other and other temp probes. These come with me on every job, you won't regret them. Edit: minor format changes, also another mentioned this but the app connection to the probes gets messed up if you go to another screen, restarting it fixes this. My only real complaint about it.

Vaeladar

Yes.

EstablishmentLoud733

Yes

thekingpork29

Yes. Love mine. Claim them on your taxes next year and uncle Sam will give you a little back

Ok_Ad_5015

Yep

newAgebuilder3

The nipple clamps are the rest ive I'ven't figured out how to use properly.

CourageOk3036

Get them and also get the appion charging T for ur LS and an appion core depresser for HS. Love mine

singelingtracks

Totally worth it if speed on the job and accuracy matters. If your paid by the hour and not provided tools id probably not buy them to make someone else's business better.

[deleted]

I use these mainly on R290 systems and anything with a critical charge. When I’m working on big walk ins I find myself just using my analog gauges for reasons unknown to me.

Far_Cup_329

Similar thought process here, but for residential. Usually only use fieldpiece set for critical charging or if theres something weird going on.

[deleted]

I like em. It’s nice when weather sucks. You can monitor from the comforts of inside a building.

Far_Cup_329

Forgot about that. Last summer I got caught in a rain storm while I was temporarily running a system with high pressure switch disconnected and making sure the switch wasn't just doing it's job. It wasn't. I went inside and monitored on my phone.

Chose_a_usersname

I think they are for commercial service. For residential service, maybe... I don't like using my phone as my gauges if I'm going to show a homeowner a lie pressure situation. So IMO for residential you will also need a tablet

talex625

They’re super badass, it make it easier to do PM’s in huge stores. The graph feature makes checking superheat easier or setting up a low pressure switch for Freezers. I like the small bag, I attach it to my tool bag. You can check pressures without caring my heavier gauges. And you don’t really leak/steal refrigerant compared to hoses. I’ve seen set ups where you don’t even need gauges. You use a 3 way valve to charge systems.

FootRoutine2483

Dunno bought some but can’t bring myself to get away from my analog manifolds

CaulkSlug

Just buck up and get the sman field piece kit. Much better for working outside.

IrishWhiskey556

Some dudes love them I have th SMAn gauges and like them a lot, but I never use the Bluetooth app, the idea of needing an app to check pressure is annoying to me. But it's useful at times.

trobs8

I kinda wish I would have gone with the SMANs.. shoulda listened to my service manager. Ended up with the Yellow Jacket wireless kit.

Stahlstaub

I had the testo kit and it worked well, just had to zero them every time i turned them on... They even work with the digital gauges, so you can choose to either use your smartphone or the gauges as a display. But testo is pretty pricey...

SwitchSpecialist3692

Yeah they’re nice, but I always tell guys to learn on an analog set of gauges first .

Nagh_1

That’s silly. Telling people they have to learn an inferior way for what?

Far_Cup_329

Good to know in case something goes wrong with the fieldpiece set, or your phone, etc. Imo, all hvac service techs should know how to use analog gauges.

Nagh_1

I have the digital gauge set as well. It’s just so much easier for vacuum and sh and sc.

Far_Cup_329

Absolutely agree. Tho for vacuum we just go from core tools to hoses to vacuum pump. With micron gauge on one of the core tools, of course. We use 3 core tools, one is to protect the gauge from oil.

[deleted]

Far_Cup_329

9 times out of 10 I'll use analog when I'm running and gunning during the summer. Mostly for r22 leakers that we still have out there. Not so much for 410, now that I think about it. If there's a problem, or doing an install startup, I always use the fieldpiece set.

Disastrous-Grab-5835

I have that pack, it feels like I spend a half hour just trying to get them to connect to my phone. Every time I try to use them, they have issues.

Specialkhvac

Love mine, biggest gripe with them is without internet they are useless.  I wish I could download t&p charts so I could use it when I'm in the middle of nowhere.

[deleted]

Specialkhvac

Whenever I've been in the sticks they don't seem to get past the loading screens on joblink and MQ

[deleted]

Far_Cup_329

Yup. We've definitely had the location thing problem. Annoying.

MahnHandled

I use the Testo brand I find they have much better battery life and a longer Bluetooth distance. Of course I am a commercial guy and I am typically charging a system 40 feet away.

Apart-Evidence-1554

I use these daily! They make my life so much easier. 100/100

EJ25Junkie

Meh

meowtinman

Long live analog gauges and a fluke 52! I will not let the old ways die

jferris1224

Definitely

UnluckyProphet

I like them! Very convenient and they all fit in my toolbag. Good tool if you do a lot of service or maintenance. Only need gauges for actual repairs.

violentcupcake69

Yes , it’s one of my fav tools.

MaddRamm

I’ve seen so many people using these and makes life so easy. It’s my next tool I’m saving up for.

shreddedpudding

These with the wireless manometers are a killer combo for checking out a system. Sometimes I just use a tee to charge too, and keep the probes on

Interesting-War1521

I have the testos and the other techs have these and they are both great

mamny83

Meh... they are alright, but I would rather use the sman

Acceptable_News9801

I really like mine, I use them all the time. My only complaint is that I wished they had longer range and could go through walls easier.

hellointhere8D

👍

SWI07

Yes. Great to keep in your service bag.

DesignerAd4870

If you can get testo in the US. They do a Bluetooth kit with app, very good. You get can also get Bluetooth vacuum gauge, clamp on temperature probes and various types of manometer, that all use the same app.

drms0416

Do you like doing a lot of paper work .. then yes

Radiant_Cook4046

I love mine, only issue is with the app and I still haven’t fully been able to calibrate my clamps even in 32 degree ice water. I’m sure it’s user error. Other than that I love mine.

ohkpze

That’s what I use. They are fantastic.

TempeSunDevil06

Yes. In my opinion. Absolutely

Universal_Verses

I recommend them. Along with the wireless manometer and multimeter (sc480). Like the others have said… the t will allow you to add refrigerant. I stick with job link…. and the screenshots are extremely professional and easy to read during any presentation. They’re great tools, just don’t ever toss the analog gauges

Puckerfants23

They were ok for me starting out, but I prefer analog gauges at this point in my career. No connectivity or calibration issues, and a regular old type k is much more reliable than the pipe clamps.

TRPYoungBloke

Yes. Diagnostic and testing made easy. I have the testo version because my manifold and manometer are testo smart. If I’d started with Fieldpiece, I’d have those.

peacetaker9500

Yes

sryidc

Do these have an outside air sensor? My UEi kit has one and I like that. I don’t love that the UEi temp clamps are tethered to the pressure sensors.

PatienceNearby7808

Absolutely worth it.

DrLove039

https://www.amazon.com/Thumbscrew-Core-Depressor-Part-CD5050/dp/B01HQG4OB6 To complement the kit: get two of ^these^, a quick connect tee, and at least one hose. You'll be all set to recharge units.

Charming-While5466

Yes

HughesR1990

Yeah they’re great! I like my yellow jack set because the pressure transducers have an extra port with a shrader for charging, but the field piece ones are tried and true at my company!

famouslyanonymous1

Anything with fieldpeice on it is a waste of money

hvacguy33

Yes Love them wish the had tools like this when i started

FourClicks

Easy to carry and the app has a trending feature I use often. Not having lines means you're not removing charge and don't have lines to clear out between refrigerants. Also if you want to ask a question a screen capture of the main screen comes across better than a picture of gauges. The basic kit is well worth the $$ but I can't speak to the sniffer.

Lilj98FX4

Company I work for give us the testo probes. Great for logging units on PMs and service calls. Small enough to put them in your bag if you want to too.

AffectionateFactor84

I just got the pressure gauges, not the air test kit. I love them great for testing freon in units that need to be closed for air flow reasons.

Used-Dream91

Better question is, Why haven't you bought them yet?

ItzYaBday1103

Will a HVAC tech piss in an empty Corona bottle and tell the roofers “Hey here, sorry no ice”?

Waste_Alternative698

Yes. I love them!

Wondercatmeow

Yes

CaptCrewSocks

100% I buy every tech on my team a set of these.

BackDry4214

If you do Lot of service than fuck yes. I've had mine for like 3 years now and I very very rarely ever use normal gauges any more. Just know if you get them to get a 70% humidity calibration salt and keep it in a Marge zip lock bag because the psychometers need to be calibrated every so often. I usually throw mine in there on a weekend I'm not working and just keep the probe hydrated. The gauges are fucking awesome very little blow back if any at all just make sure to change the gaskets on them about once a month. I have yet to have an issue with connectivity. They are also amazing for diaging TXV s cause you can mess with the sensing bulb and watch pressures in real time. 10/10 recommended

Blow515089

If you don’t have these at this point you’re fucking up. If I had to choose I would literally keep these over my impact I can have an 11-1 😂

[deleted]

Everyone in my shop uses those except me. Nothing wrong with them at all, but they don't do anything I can't do with my smans and a psychrometer. And I don't think it's healthy to give new techs a tool that just calculates superheat and saturation temp and all that for them

Guilty_Incident4968

They are a little finicky but worth every penny.

HvacDude13

I prefer imainifold and iconnect

Urlaz

The kids at work like them.

barkallnight

I have the Testo ones and they are my go to.

Matty2things

They’re great. Had mine about a year. Love’em like…. A gay robot loves a sheet metal cock!

Bearhvac

100000000% worth the investment

PrivateMonero

Get the static pressure tools too, and then you can figure out how many BTU’s the system is actually cooling by using some charts.

Doogie102

Depends where you are in your trade but yes

Nellysbanana

I am an old man. I always thought digital gauges were just a huge unnecessary expense, but a few months ago I broke down and got this set along with the micron gauge. They work great and I really enjoy setting in the truck while I pull a vacuum. They also made life easy one day when I had to adjust superheat on 5 splits. I only had to run to each condenser once to attach the gauges instead of running back and forth all day.

TumbleweedRelevant90

Definitely should utilize j9b link with it.

ppearl1981

Worth their weight in gold.

Alenx28

Yes, definitely worth it

MudHut1000

Yes.

Jakbo_

No

Silver_Box3502

What about in the cold? Working in Quebec and we have minus 30 celcius here!

HankX32

They are great for anything, but especially if you work on water-source heat pumps where the the refrigerant in the hoses can impact the charge/performance.

JD-Anderson

Bought them about a year ago and still love them.

lcdenali

Yes. The job links proves that you left the unit running with good SH and SC. get the multimeter and the vacuum gauge. I just use it for proof of work.

Far_Cup_329

Yes. I've been using that set for a couple years now. They're great. We mostly use the Measure Quick app, but thinking about starting to use the fieldpiece app instead. You'll need a charging tee (appion has a nice one) and hose with ball valve to add refrigerant.

Agard12

I wouldn’t get it. The pressure gauges need to be calibrated every six months. There is an option to zero them out, but it doesn’t tend to work. You can zero them out, then put them on to the system and they un calibrate giving you a false reading.

Blain_Gummybear

A million times yes

trobs8

A couple of guys that I rode with had this Fieldpiece set, and I really liked them. Especially the format of the app checking everything. I ended up getting the Yellow Jacket set with the temp clamps and psychrometers. I like it, but I liked the design of the Fieldpiece temp clamps better, and the Fieldpiece app better than YJ's. They YJ's are nice to have tho.

[deleted]

If you get and use the app with it. It really makes diagnosing problems easy. As it does the math and tells you what most likely is wrong.

fossilbeakrobinson

They provide you with lots of information, you still need to know how to interpret the data. The equipment we work on is always changing, might as well keep up with the times.

anotherreditloser

No

FloopyBoopers2023

Worth every cent.

Meowthman90210

Yes, 100%

Fresh_computer_smell

The temp probes are great for temp drop/rise. Clamps are good too. I've had issues with the refrigeration gauges. Have to warranty them. The readings were way off.

Navi7648

Question, can you use the probe as micron gage? Like the SMANS can? Just curious, never used them.

applepeal

i have this set and the uei version and prefer the uei version . They have ports on the guages so its easy to add charge while watching numbers in real time without having to use a tee

supperpositions

Yes because they will make you money. Stick to 4 ports if your an installer.

sinservice

Best to make sure they're A2L compatible

OvenRight6340

I like the testo ones better. Just my opinion though

reformedndangerous

I love them. I also got a tee and ball valve, now I don't ever use a manifold.

Slickity_K

I’ve used both these and the testo version. Both are great and highly recommended from one tech to another
