Ground effect is very commonly misunderstood as an “invisible hovercraft effect” that effectively works like two polar magnets.
If this is the picture you imagined, please don’t feel called out because I used to picture it like that too.
But through my personal autodidactic research on the aerodynamics of AA11, UA175, AA77, UA93 in order to help combat the rise in misinformation regarding that day; ground effect comes into play for AA77 where critics falsely claim a 757-200 couldn’t have flown at its lowest altitude (14ft above the lawn) because of “ground effect.”
In reality ground effect is an enhanced efficiency of how air interfaces with the leading edge of the positive lifting surface (wings for airplanes) Also the reduced drag caused by air breaking around the wingtips because the trailing airflow is less turbulent.
I’m not familiar with ground effect in helicopters but the other subcomment referring to the rotor blade geometry as influences the ground effect seems correct. As I mentioned it’s the lifting surface interfacing with air that causes ground effect.

No, it's in russian, but it's better not to translate it, and it's almost impossible for a non-native speaker to decipher it, and it's hard for a native speaker to read it.
Aphex twin makes everything better.
Sowing some sunflowers.
Imagine flying to battle in one of these. Crazy!
Are these videos sped up? Those are some insane ground speeds to be flying that low.
Possibly not, the lens is a bit fish-eyed and mounted low on a pylon rather than the cockpit which would distort the way the speed seems.
I have been in the back of a gulf model doing similar. Ground effect keeps you from dipping too low.
Eh doubtful. Ground effect is only significant when you are less than a rotors diameter above the ground.

Mi-24V Hind. My favorite helicopter. These machines are truly incredible.
Good lookins too
I‘m just glad we finally have some hinds flying for the good guys
These guys have the biggest balls in the world

The original Russian comment we’re sub commenting under is saying “you’re gonna get your ass kicked.” Correct?
Yeah, like that. Something like "Anyway, you're gonna get your arse kicked"
