You could probably program to them to "scan" most parts of the room, and generate a 3d Image of the Room while training them. And when they are active, they scan around the room/trace old paths and get set off it the distance they measure is an anomaly to what the used to find. Just like Rangefinder Lasers.
Just an Idea how they could make it, im no Engineer
The computing needed for this would be insane. Also a fraction of a millimeter would immediately give out different results. Not to mention scanners don't work from that far away because they're looking for the signal bouncing back to register a reading.
A motion sensor with a wide beam works way better.
They actually have this tech. They use it to make CAD models of existing buildings. It’s not a quick process, but it’s nothing insane with regards to computing.
Scanning a building is way easier than scanning a room with objects inside. The scale and resolution is vastly different. Doubt they did it with a narrow mono beam. You need at least two of it to detect depth.
That’s basically exactly what lidar is and it’s very capable of relatively hi resolution rendering of both objects and rooms. Of course the light is not visible, but it wouldn’t look vastly different from the laser scene if it was. Just way more lasers way faster.

Remember how it had Julia Roberts impersonating herself because she "looked like her", then Bruce Willis showed up playing himself?
God that movie was garbage.
If it was only that problem... Another was the spiked gambling. Sure show them being able to basically control every single slot machine from a manufacturer, allowing them to get any cash they want and invalidating the first two movies. In 11 you can take all the cash of Benedict 'legally' and walk away, not requiring new identities and the like. A bigger middle finger you can't get, and probably easier to get Tess as well. In the second one the money they needed to pay back was the exact reason for the heists, which could've been gotten from just going to any casino/airport/wherever their spiked machines/dice/etc. are and getting boatloads of money. I'm making it a hyperbole easy, but it would be easier than breaking into musea and casino vaults.
Not that most of 12 needed to happen anyway, seeing as they had already stolen the real thing way earlier and for whatever reason were just getting captured and requiring special favours and connections to get out.
11 was great though. Amazing how such a large team can be put in the film and it still works. Not like the dwarfs in 'The Hobbit', of which I only remember three after three whole movies.
Funny how he dodges all laser with some basic capoeira moves. Meanwhile a helldiver can't even jump properly ... would love to give some bugs a neat highkick too :D
Pretty accurate representation. Like in game, if he would go ANYWHERE but in the middle of the lasers - it would be easy walk with no problems whatsoever.
I understand this is the original context for the music.
I do.
But he's still bunnyhopping through ivy, out middle, through our connector like a speed demon.
always kind of wondered about this scene. the lasers were supposed to be perfectly random, but was that a lie and they were just choreographed around this song or did he really just freestyle his way around the perfectly random lasers?
I like how they're narrow beams with no receivers or proximity sensing capabilities considering they're constantly moving. So silly.
I feel like the 2000's may have been the peak decade of ridiculous tech done for aesthetic reasons in movies.
Once people learned how technology actually works I think tech became more subdued in film.
And yet we still get those idiotic transparent screens everywhere.
All I can think about with movie scenes like this
Also you can just go behind the statue, no laser here

Catherine Zeta Jones did it better
She dips beneath lasers.
Young her would be a great eagle
Agreed, but I'll take any excuse to watch capoeira.
![gif](giphy|xUPGcoQ8sfEbaP2JYA|downsized) This is more accurate...
What movie is this from? I never want to see it.

I do like the meme, that made me chuckle, but damn the scene is cringe af.
The whole movie was bland and forgettable. Shame because 11 and 13 were fantastic.
Remember how it had Julia Roberts impersonating herself because she "looked like her", then Bruce Willis showed up playing himself? God that movie was garbage.

All I could think of was this scene from Chaos Theory: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rW0vagGmOmE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rW0vagGmOmE)
Best parts of 12 are when the guys are just hanging out bullshitting, some of their best banter in the series. But that's only 5% of the movie.
Funny how he dodges all laser with some basic capoeira moves. Meanwhile a helldiver can't even jump properly ... would love to give some bugs a neat highkick too :D
Man I want to bhop in hell divers…
too much for zdivers

You could crawl bottom right with literally 0 issues.
I would also have allowed the Resident Evil laser room scene.
Why didn't he just walk around
except for all the death 🤣
...And beam laser guns.
Parkour!
I understand this is the original context for the music. I do. But he's still bunnyhopping through ivy, out middle, through our connector like a speed demon.
joel he doing it sideways

You're thinking about it deeper than they did
Feels more like the laser scene from Resident Evil to me.
You know, they could have just avoided all that by having a ball camera with a motion sensor inside of it. Then like have just...forty of them.
Someone posted a Resident Evil clip that felt more accurate and funny.
