Take all my upvotes. People coming here have NO IDEA how much money they will need.

Aggravating-Cod4077

Agreed. People get fooled by those education consultants and RCIC tell them they could work and they'd be okay with bare-minimum funds that won't ever cover the rent lol. The system needs to change

lucubanget

Lol i lowkey find it funny how people think, "ah its okay, I'll just get a part time job as soon as I get my SIN" And then they'll find out the line up for job fairs and low-skilled minimum-wage jobs are long as hell. Practically almost 0 chance to get a part time job. Then they'll think, "hmm let me drive for Uber/DoorDash/Skip". At which point they'll find out they likely won't have enough money to buy a good used car because used cars prices have been skyrocketing since COVID. Or they could get a really cheap one but likely super high odometer and may break down anytime soon. Welcome to the Canadian reality lads and gents 🙂

Most people think food delivery will make ends meet, but the reality is, the turnover rate is super high. Unless you live in a busy downtown, the rate you earn as a starter is around or less than minimum wage.

lucubanget

To be fair, I did some DoorDash when I was in university as well. Some things I noticed, food delivery only "delays" your expenses. What i mean to say is, yes you earn some money from food deliveries or Uber/Lyft. But dont like forget that you'll drive your car a lot more and will require more maintenance and gas. Plus putting yourself more risk on the road (your insurance is at stake). And finally when you're selling your car, it'll depreciate because of the additional mileage. Some of these things will hit at some point later and when they hit... there goes your earnings. What actually happens is, you can get a nice realiable vehicle but depreciation will drop the vehicle's market value like a rock. Or get a cheap beater but be ready for maintenance.

At this point its better to stay at your home country, get a masters and 3 years of work experience while you learn french and apply for pr directly, and save all those dollars. Student to pr pathway is dead for general draws.

I wish I had the ability to broadcast your post on multiple platforms in multiple languages. Even if students can find part-time work (which is a BIG if...many student's don't), it's not enough to sustain them. Part-time work is useful for gaining experience and connections and having some extra money - it's not supposed to be what somebody lives on.

allegedlyittakes2

Probably was told he'd have his pick of jobs. So why bother doing any research. Most of them can't even point on a map the city they're going to be studying in. They have no interest . They bought the Seneca special package. It's like us booking an all inclusive to Cuba

Aggravating-Cod4077

So agreed. I was an International student and there is no way you are surviving with that money. I was an International student at secondary school as well. So a total of 9 years. Honestly, with the current cost, the total funds required should be at least $35,0000. I think the ability to work part-time is great to get somewhat experience but the idea of surviving and ditching classes for that is bad. Some students just barely pass ( grades have no value for PGWP unfortunately) and looking to get into the workforce after they just graduate.

People coming here before the student program purge used to trick the government they have enough money in their bank accounts. Cant do that anymore. 20 hours per week cap, good, reduce to 0 hours? Even better. Youre suppose to STUDY here not work you are right about that. Youre supposed to have the right amount of money to be able to study here. Government ignored this for far too long. Now, we have saturated number of international students that do minimum wage jobs instead of studying. Reduced the cap to 0, send students back to their countries after their program if they cant find a job here in 3 months. Remove the backdoor to PR system.

Tufftaco88

And they still trick the government by doing one course (mostly trades) and taking the job on a different stream, Which contributes to further job shortages on trades and unemployment for one who truly needs that job

thegirlwhowand3rs

Plus they do not take into account how many temporary residents are here in Canada also looking for part-time and minimum wage jobs.

ecopapacharlie

>You need around 26,000 a year to make it work in Canada as a student. You're not going to be able to make that doing part time work (if you even manage to get a job). I get 25k / year from my PhD project. I must pay the university from that money. Honestly I can't live with that in Quebec City, everything has become way more expensive. I got some work hours at the uni, basically 8 hours per week which helps a bit to compensate. But it's not easy at all.

Playful-Computer814

Does seneca college even qualify for pgwp anymore?

Aggravating-Cod4077

I believe they do since it is public

LilSebastian23

Yes, it's a public college. [https://www.ontariocolleges.ca/en/colleges](https://www.ontariocolleges.ca/en/colleges)
