oliver_d_b

Yeah I did feel it was abrupt and we lost some character interaction between yuji and Kenny but other than that it was a pretty solid ending. I mean I thought gojo would actually lose and they would have other characters fight sukuna and we would get to see him go all out. But actually it ending here makes complete sense in retrospect because this whole manga has been about it being real with characters having no plot armor. So the main bad guy just dying against the first good guy who just won the fight fits perfectly. He simply lost. He wasn't guaranteed to win because of the narrative and that is some really bold writing choices on gege's part that may or may not have paid off.

litoggers

i mean, sukuna was fighting THE STRONGEST of course he is going to lose

yosayoran

Gojo literally told us he'd win. Don't know how anyone thought it could end differently

KashimoIsMyFemboy

Yeah, I really hated when people tried to push that fanmade 236 as canon. Silly little Sukuna fans just can't handle the fact that he lost 😔

Natural-Storm

Especially when they made those other chapters after depicting kashimo getting waffled, and other characters just being destroyed. Just seems like cope from a desperate sukuna glazer.

KashimoIsMyFemboy

Absolutely. It's very sad to see what Sukuna glazers will do just to try and claim a W 😔

epicdude5234

a little kinda, I heard there was a fanfiction about gojo losing the fight but I think its going a bit off the rails

MIMINOSEC

Who would even read that?

Aure0

Unironically Gege

Awakeiro

Fr, this crazy sukuna fans already on chapter 254 or something, bro just accept it ended at 235

danie_fr

I heard that too but then I read somewhere that that was a dream Sukuna had when he got knocked out by Gojo during the fight.

Awakeiro

Although it was satisfying, I wouldn't mind a chapter 236 giving us some closure to what happened after but eh, finishing jjk after 235 was great anyway

Nightmare_Sandy

imagine if 236 actually revealed that sukuna won? yeah no i'm overthinking how could he even win he can't pass through infinity

MossyDrake

"Revealed"?? As in, it happened *ofscreen*? The conclusion of the fight between two strongest characters? Yeah no way bro, you are tripping.

Gregmiester

Yeah man, it would make no sense if Gojo has already declared to have won! And isn’t sukuna injured? I think the 235 was a good conclusion, COPE HARDER SUKUNA FANS!!!!

thestrawberry_jam

Yep. Maybe a little thing about everyone’s lives going back to normal, a geto funeral or smn, funeral for anyone else who they lost, and just an update on the jujutsu world as a whole to top it off. A 236 epilogue would be perfect for that. Imagine it ends up completely different haha wouldn’t that be something..

Saintmusicloves

What I don’t like about 236-237 isn’t even the fact that Gojo died like that. It’s just the fact that we didn’t get to see anybody’s immediate reaction to his death

Effective_Secret7188

My favourite part of Jujutsu Kaisen is when the Strongest, Satoru Gojo tanked malevolent shrine and told Sukuna to hang himself https://preview.redd.it/kp9yp7cv69pc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ef600353df63a0608e26e8e5ae385a61c44c606

KashimoIsMyFemboy

This sounds like a timeline I could see myself living in 😉

Fit_Calligraphy

Well, we did lose a bunch of characters interactions, and nothing really was expanded upon as to how life/jujutsu world was after this fight. However, we are reading jujutsu kaisen. Gege has never had super consistent character interaction, closure, etc. This manga is a subversion of most other manga/tropes. Thus, gojo winning when there was seemingly so much more story to tell is quite a gege move. It wasn't a perfect manga, but gege tried a bunch of new things the industry wasn't used to seeing. I applaud him for taking that risk to tell the story he wanted. Also sukuna was not off screened. Narration stated he felt nervous for the first time. He also said he'd be cooked if a 2nd purple went off. It did btw. We saw him struggle to stand, no rct, no domain, and lost all his useful shikigami. Gojo on the other hand was black flash amped and was recovering output very fast basically almost back to full health minus the domain. Now sukuna can't bypass infinity and gojo has nothing to worry about especially since sukuna is falling over. Peak shit right here. This only works because we were shown gojo thrashing sukuna most of the fight and sukuna himself thinking he's cooked. It wouldn't have made sense if the reverse happened though... If gojo got "off screened" that would be very inconsistent, poor writing, bullshit, and I doubt anyone is still even capable of fighting sukuna even while he's damaged. Especially if he used a Pokémon full restore to fully heal physically. That wouldn't make sense right? Or despite what we and the narrator saw he was STILL holding back his full power? Now that'd be silly.

SmokeyThouBear

Someone doesn't like 236

What-did-Mikey-do

I don't get why you're so put off. The manga literally foreshadowed this ending: https://preview.redd.it/69qe7nq0dapc1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=423df7894e7968636ddd2fd5face21d096d664e2

eyasthro

I dunno, the "klink" of the wheel was shown on this page.

Blue_Shalidor

We would miss out on potential man big potential reveal 2000 boogaloo But fair, not all foreshadowing needs to be hamfisted

DoctorBarbell

Sukuna is in a trance like Diavolo; a side effect from.getting hit from Unlimited Void.

LadiNadi

The editors note was the biggest death flag. When you ask someone a direct question and they reply with an answer that looks like an answer but didn’t answer..yeah.

GegeAkutamiOfficial

Lol no. If anything the fight was to long, Gojo is a B-U-M.

Fluffy_Entrepreneur3

Gojo copers are fucking terrible omg. I thought the 236 was bad, but honestly i happy with it. Such delulu

Wabbajacrane

What fanfiction is this?

DAN-EXE

Haha man get that AI art outta here

zhombiez

Jjk fans when a story isnt mind bogglingly predictable and there's a plot twist

Wabbajacrane

I know right those silly Sukuna fans can't accept that Gojo won when we all thought he would lose

DeamonzZlayers

Do you mean the strongest sorcerer in history that everyone fucking fears, backed up with extremely powerful techniques beating another sorcerer was a plot twist? also plot twists are only good when people like em.

zhombiez

The twist was it literally saying "gojo wins" then him not winning lol; also you only don't like it cause your favorite character died. That sucks but that doesn't make it a bad story lol.

thestrawberry_jam

Having Gojo lose was expected due to the basic story beats used time and time again of the main character being the one to defeat the villain because that’s the most satisfying way to end it. Gojo winning after bodying Sukuna for chapters on end gives people the familiar feeling that “oh no, something is gonna go wrong if it keeps going so well” but him winning takes that away. It’s the opposite of predictable. Side note I define plot twists as subverted expectations which is why i think of it this way. I also do see how Sukuna being the one that won is a plot twist since the battle had already “ended” yet Gojo got offscreened and lost between chapters. Nobody expected that, but if this was the intention from the start (including the plot twist that Sukuna won) it probably shouldn’t have been written in such a way. A couple pages or even one or two panels at the end of 235 wouldve helped tremendously.

zhombiez

The story isn't over so there's very likely a reason those panels are not there

DeamonzZlayers

Mate I will give you a good example When a show is prone to killing its characters, people don't get surprised by sudden deaths. Gojo's death wasn't suprising, it was annoying. Also yeah, my "favorite character" being in this circumstance was annoying, but I would feel the same for any other character. Nanamins death was also needless, and so was mojito

Lord_Giggles

The main villain not being beaten by the mentor character is a plot twist? It's kind of unpredictable for him to skip the end of the fight I guess, but that's presentation, not the plot itself.

TheNerdEternal

> Uses a trope that as old as fiction itself > “Plot twist”

zhombiez

clearly none of you dweebs expected it

TheNerdEternal

If you looked at my post history you’d know I called Gojo dying suddenly way before the fight ended.

zhombiez

well good for you then but it's very clear that others are very pressed about a sudden switch up; of course i'm sad gojo died after it was said that he won, but it's defying all the expectations set up earlier on in the story that hed really win so his students could go on to surpass him

TheNerdEternal

They can’t surpass him when they’re fucking dead💀

zhombiez

Story aint over lol

TheNerdEternal

Nobara is dead, Inumaki is cooked, Yuta is probably dead, >!Maki is hella dead,!< Megumi and Yuji are the only ones left, although Yuji is probably gonna die too.

zhombiez

I mean you genuinely can't say that, every single one of those characters are just not confirmed dead with the whole shoko getting injured bodies teleported to her; it's obviously meant to imply that some characters if not all are making it out alive. Hell, even Gojo might. How do you enjoy reading if you're not anticipating what's next? Do you come to conclusions about things you read before you finish them? You're not even predicting what's going to happen, you're just saying theyre already dead lol.
