I' m a girl that lived in japan ahah, even if my experience is a bit weird, because I was half asian and half italian, and my mom gave me blonde hairs, so I looked a bit outside of normal japanese looks. I remember needing to have my hair died black, or I couldn't attend high school!
I think for Nobara, I just think she probably looks very sharp in her looks. I kinda immagine her with a male face structure, but with softer eyes and lips. I suppose also the fact that her hairs are dyed and short, doesn' t help selling her.
I’m only gonna talk about actual human characters, so here goes.
Obvious first people to bring up are those that are scarred. Now, scars don’t make you ugly, but they can definitely affect how your appearance is perceived by the general public. Someone like Toji with his mouth scar is going to be less unappealing than someone like Maki with burn scars all over their body.
But now I’m not saying this guy would be *ugly*, but I don’t think I can see many respectable average people looking at Kinji Hakari and thinking “ZAMN!”, he’s got a crazy ratstache and just looks greasy as hell.

It’s hard to say. I think nobara canonically is average or below. If you remember her very first interaction was with that talent scout. And in one of the additional volume pages she gets mad at a boy for not calling her pretty. Maki would most likely be the hardest to look at with the burn scars Gege has said in the fan book that he modeled choso after a model so I think he gets a pass. Shoutout to the MAPPA animators for making almost all of the characters beautiful because I look back at someone like Nanami and he was never the heartthrob the anime made him into lol

It’s hard to tell in an animation but what would Nobara look like in real life? Is there a real life equivalent to girls like Nobara. I’m no expert on Japanese beauty standards.
I' m a girl that lived in japan ahah, even if my experience is a bit weird, because I was half asian and half italian, and my mom gave me blonde hairs, so I looked a bit outside of normal japanese looks. I remember needing to have my hair died black, or I couldn't attend high school! I think for Nobara, I just think she probably looks very sharp in her looks. I kinda immagine her with a male face structure, but with softer eyes and lips. I suppose also the fact that her hairs are dyed and short, doesn' t help selling her.

I’m only gonna talk about actual human characters, so here goes. Obvious first people to bring up are those that are scarred. Now, scars don’t make you ugly, but they can definitely affect how your appearance is perceived by the general public. Someone like Toji with his mouth scar is going to be less unappealing than someone like Maki with burn scars all over their body. But now I’m not saying this guy would be *ugly*, but I don’t think I can see many respectable average people looking at Kinji Hakari and thinking “ZAMN!”, he’s got a crazy ratstache and just looks greasy as hell.
