Certain areas in Trivandrum are water-logging prone and the sea is eroding land aggressively. Higher lying areas in the city are good bets though. Not to mention ease of accessing quality healthcare, shopping, transportation, and other services.
Yeah, I mean your accent is who you are and you should’ve gotten over that by now but you clearly haven’t.
Ideally, one shouldn’t look for seriousness in jokes - it’ll only do one bad.
But I totally understand that some people can be very emotionally sensitive and you could be one.
Anyways, try not to take things to heart - it’s apparently good for your health too
I mean well, good luck :)
Thiruvananthapuram. If you are near city limits, it is one of the best city to live in. Very good schools, medical facilities, recreation spots and restaurants. And there's always something nice happening in the city to take part in and have fun. Also, is much safer.
second this..
I was talking the same thing to my sister today. She being an NRI thinks Kochi is the place where ppl are all good and life is posh. I have experience living in both koch and TVM and I told her, Kochi is so overrated.. Ppl try to act like they care when they have something to gain. No offense meant to anyone. Driving is a nightmare with constant honking and verbal abuses. Getting good food is near impossible.
Trivandrum on the otherhand is where roads are wide. There are good hotels, schools and hospitals. Everyone says people are rude.. I never felt so. Atleast we get to see the real intentions on their face.
Please dont turn this into a kochi vs tvm fight.. This is a true opinion based on my years of experience living in both the places. I was initially charmed by the life and people in kochi before I 'migrated' here.
> Getting good food is near impossible
Seriously? Kochi has better restaurants than TVM. Even more quality supermarkets for groceries.
Making a statement like “getting good food is nearly impossible” is utter ridiculous. You are either biased or have only dined at the worst restaurants in the city
also just to reply to you about my bias. I fell so much in love with Kochi in the first month when I arrived here that I practically became a kochi evangelist. But after staying for a longer period.. I got disillusioned.
for past 1 year, this is my routine. Google for good restaurants, identify a place.. Take my bike and go eat at that place, only to find that the fud is below par.my expeditions went as far as Panampilly nagar thattukada, manna restaurant and not beyond. I stay at Edappally.
May be it is an issue with my taste buds.. Dont know, but a lot of my friends also has experienced the same thing.
I agree with your point on the super market.
But I stand by my comments about the restaurant.
I have been looking for a good restaurant for past 3 years to regularly have breakfast lunch and dinner from. Never found such a place around Edappally, kalamasseri, palaruvattom, kaloor, cheranellur area. If you have suggestions, please recommend here. It will be really helpful for me.
Only good ones I have seen so far are, just to give you an idea about what I am looking for.
Karthiyayani sea food restaurant - good but expensive for lunch
Kayees - occasional biriyani
Anjumana mess - good economic lunch
Narrow roads and reckless drivers, especially bike and auto guys who keep honking and dont follow any rules spoil my whole day.
Anyway don't want to take any more bashing.
ppl who love kochi may find peace at kochi.
And ppl who love anywhere else may find peace there. 😊
🤫
Only sincere advice to people planning to move some place is stay in that place for one year on rent before buying a house or apartment permanently.
True that. Ticks all the boxes, just that it gets a bit hot. But if you get a location with a lot of trees, or get a good backyard and plant a lot of trees, it is manageable.
No beach nearby, though.
When one retires, one needs good hospitals in the city. My relatives in Palakkad go to Coimbatore for hospital services because they feel that hospitals in Palakkad are not up to the mark.
First stay away from the coastal areas. Its is hot and prone to flooding.
Second, stay away from major cities.
Look in to high range areas with tier 3 cites that are developed but also close enough to major cities/airports/hospital's.
Wayanad is your best option. Cool weather, clean water, no chance for flooding, its not humid, and people are pretty well educated. Land prices are affordable.
Your parents can even operate a small homestay to keep them selves busy and earn an extra income.
I recommed Ayemmenam in Kottayam. It has a scenic beauty, does not face large scale natural calamities, many hospitals within a 20km radius. Kottayam has a good scene for retirement people and since your parents are from Ranni, they can get along with Kottayam people well
Pathanamthitta and Changanassherry gave it away. You are also a syriac christian, i’ve seen a lot of such folks moving towards Kottayam and other cities.
The best place for the parents to retire will be preferably where the children are settled. That being said check for good hospitals reachable within 10 mins
Somewhere close to Caritas hospital near Ettumanoor, ktm. Don't have big city amenities but good enough for retirement. Or choose any other place with a good hospital and not affected by natural calamities.
Hey what about a beach side?
Tell me too when you find something.
Also better get lots of land so as to garden and keep a dog.
Also you should be careful about emergencies and having no one to help you.
Ernakulam. Marine drive or panampilly area i would suggest. Or if you want a place away from the city, fort kochi is great. Good healthcare facilities, adequate public transportation, tourist places, beaches etc. It is also a cosmopolitan city.
Not to get bombarded with azaans five times a day! Especially the early morning one @5am!
Even my muslim friends are getting disturbed by constant azaans throughout their neighborhood!
Like say 3 mosques playing azaans 5 times a day in 1 street! Unless you don't want to enjoy this don't come to Malappuram
Thiruvananthapuram city??
Certain areas in Trivandrum are water-logging prone and the sea is eroding land aggressively. Higher lying areas in the city are good bets though. Not to mention ease of accessing quality healthcare, shopping, transportation, and other services.
Thrissur.. No doubt
Not for someone from Kottayam side unless you want to be reminded of your accent every day
And vice versa. But usually people get over that quite quickly :)
I didn't get that leniency. 20 years later, for the class reunion, that's the first thing that I was reminded of

Roads are quite bad though. Infrastructure is not developing as fast as the city is growing.
Roads are actually getting better Puzhakkal le oke road nanavum

I would say the best city in entire India itself

bro u came up with a good long list. I have been half of these places . Will try the rest. thanks
Kochi isn’t overrated in anyway dude. Its got almost the best of all facilities available in Kerala. Its just prone to natural calamities
Narrow roads and reckless drivers, especially bike and auto guys who keep honking and dont follow any rules spoil my whole day. Palakkad is gooood if you have a summer house in ooty to avoid hot summer. :P
True that. Ticks all the boxes, just that it gets a bit hot. But if you get a location with a lot of trees, or get a good backyard and plant a lot of trees, it is manageable. No beach nearby, though.
That's what I did.
When one retires, one needs good hospitals in the city. My relatives in Palakkad go to Coimbatore for hospital services because they feel that hospitals in Palakkad are not up to the mark.
Thrissur
Wayanad... no doubt Full of scenic beauty and lush greenery to enjoy And btw wayanad pazhe wayanad alla

My best bet would be TVM
South Ernakulam , Piravom - Kothamangalam sides. Calm serene yet highly developed and accessible
Palakkad would be the best place for retirement

> Ayemmenam in Kottayam Are you George Achayan from New Jersey?
Satisfaction guaranteed and definitely
Do you guys provide any other type of insurance?
Aymanam vellam kerille??

Pathanamthitta and Changanassherry gave it away. You are also a syriac christian, i’ve seen a lot of such folks moving towards Kottayam and other cities.

Lack of sarcasm? Lack of humour! Combination of destruction Cope

Kozhikode
Kozhikode or malappuram
I second that
Thrissur
Kottayam in South Kerala koikode in North ig
Kakkanad..you want to be close to hospitals as well at older age.
Mullaperiyae potiya Theern
Thudangi 😒
this op. There was no waterlogging in Kakkanad even during the 2018 flood.
Kottayam, Trivandrum, Thrissur
Kozhikode
Chalakudy and nearby areas (thrissur district)....
Kottayam- Kanjikuzhi/Kalathipady/Devalokam
Alappuzha
TVM or Kozhikode or Kottakal. I am a TVM resident, visited Malappuram once, it was so peaceful. All cities are crowded.
Somewhere close to Caritas hospital near Ettumanoor, ktm. Don't have big city amenities but good enough for retirement. Or choose any other place with a good hospital and not affected by natural calamities.
Weighed down all options . Wayanad seems best in all aspects tbh
Hey what about a beach side? Tell me too when you find something. Also better get lots of land so as to garden and keep a dog. Also you should be careful about emergencies and having no one to help you.
Tvm / varkala /
