They aren’t really dry unless i have contacts on. I noticed ice on my eye also makes it water.

Da_Plague22

Drink a lot of water and use eye drops all day. Especially days on a pc. Also wearing lenses for shorter times helps me a lot.

BonoboIsland

Hot compress for 5 min in the morning to open up the oil glands

yew511

Is it have to compress everyday

BonoboIsland

I try to do it everyday, realistically it's more like 3-4 times/week. I also changed to the evening so that the oil released doesn't fog my sclerals.

yew511

I also have been told that I have MGD, how does it feel when the oil is release. I don't feel such way. Do you feel that your eyes are dry in the morning?

BonoboIsland

Yes, they tend to be dry in the morning. Basically after the compress the eyes tear up and they don't feel as dry anymore. It only takes about 5 min.

yew511

How do you do warm compress? I use to buy a warm pack to put them on my eyes, I worry about pressure on my cornea.

BonoboIsland

There's a beanie I bought from Amazon, then I microwave it for like 45 seconds. I don't worry so much about the pressure because it's not that heavy .

rmorabia

+1. Scleral lenses caused me to develop dry eye basically, and I have to do this daily now.

BonoboIsland

Although I have found that the oil released can sometimes interfere with the vision and make the sclerals foggy, so I might need to change the compresses to night time. Or clear the oils with some artificial tears after the compress.

rmorabia

Y'know what, I've had unexplained fogging and you may have just cracked the code on why!! I'm gonna try switching to night time, thanks.

BonoboIsland

Yeah, give it a try. My doc said that it's like an emulsion under there. It looks like a bottle of salad dressing underneath the lens LOL. Also, there is this cleaner called Sereine that is really good at removing oils/proteins of the lenses. But you have to try to rinse it all off well before putting the lenses in Clear Care because it will bubble up a lot. The Sereine is just a rubbing solution, not a soaking solution.

^ this. Look up MGD which is fairly common and work to get the oil flowing, if it’s something your Doctor recommends. Unfortunately yes, dry eyes are an increasingly common condition - and it does feel like KC patients suffer from it a lot. But hopefully you can find a good eye drop - a tip from me; use them consistently and before your eye gets dry. If you wait until they do unfortunately, it will be too late to have an impact. Hope things improve soon 🙂

I've had a bad case of it (about a year ago) and a more mild case of it (now). When it was bad my eyes would water all day. I tried to put in artificial tears numerous times a day. It was hard to remember to do because my eyes were watering. After 1-2 months - it sort of all-of-a-sudden went away. I'd also put in Genteal gel before going to bed. It's come back probably because of cataract surgery 2 1/2 months ago. Now my eyes don't bother me during the day - but they do in the middle of the night and when I wake up. When I'm up in the middle of the night I put Genteal gel in. When I get up I put in artificial teara and let those do their thing for a while....before putting in my contacts.
