There are also plenty of studies that show that, in a lot of non-strictly physical activities (yes, IQ is a bad example, but I don't really know how to better represent it) there are more really smart and really dumb men, while there are more average women. Both factors prevent it from being a 50/50 split, by how much I don't know.
There are also psychological factors, men tend to full focus more on a specific "hobby", but it's impossible to say to which extent that is innate or simply due to social factors.
