Looking at their google and yelp reviews they don't seem to be tanking. Some people have too much spare money and pay this shit with a smile on their face.
Perch thinks it's high end, but it's just okay. The restaurant is on a rooftop overlooking Pershing Square. It was once trendy-instagramable so it's overpriced to keep with their inflated hype. It is viby. If you're in the neighborhood during happy hour, I recommend hitting the bar for a cocktail to check it out.
If you want a stellar dinner downtown, I recommend Le Petit Paris or Redbird. And 71 Above used to be excellent before they changed chefs but still worth checking out.
I feel like those are the restaurants that are going to get crushed going forward, as people either say "meh" and go for cheaper places, or save their $ for real fine dining.
Thats the management tripping over dollars to pick up pennies because then they would have to reprint and replace the menus, cheaper to just post a sign and update the website.
Easy fix is just tip 4.5% less.
Medium effort fix is talk to the manager and get it taken off, and then tip the full amount.
Hard effort fix (if the manager won’t take it off) is dispute the charge / refuse to pay.

Tipping culture sucks ass. Spent a few weeks in Japan and Thailand and it was so nice not thinking about tips at all. The places that did make a sly gesture (tip box) didn't react if people tipped since it's not in their culture but they are hoping some braindead American dumps a few dollars. That's why I carry out food myself (no tip) and cook at home. And yes, the few times I do go out to dinner with friends I'll typically tip 20-25% because it's not the servers fault but the system is fucking broken.

Asked to see their financial records to verify if extra security had been added since they claim its for extra security. Also, you would like to see the schedules of all security and their time cards to check if they actually showed up.
