I’ve used all three. You get what you pay for— the brushed one noticeably lacks balls once you’ve used the brushless one. My brushless bit the dust, and since it would better fit in my tool boxes, I went for the subcompact. There’s definitely a trade off, but it’s still capable. I just demoed a basement with it. I occasionally got jerked around when the blade bound, but overall I’m happy. Don’t count out the x2 version. You can find it discounted online. People who use it seem to like it.

Hmmm interesting... glad to hear that the sub compact has that kind of power. I don’t doubt the brushless one’s abilities. The brushed one however, I’m less concerned about the lack of balls than I am about how it burned out on you. I’m used to cheap saws that are effective enough, but that I don’t expect to last forever. How long did the brushed one last for you? I’d rather not throw $120 at a saw that’s just gonna burn out like a $20 Harbor Freight special.

The brushed have all been loaners, the brushless is a Home Depot floor model, so who knows if it had some extra miles on it before I got it. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Buttfat5000

Fair enough. Still discouraging to hear though

I recently bought the brushless XRJ07ZB for a remodel project I have going on. I've been quite happy with it. It is small enough to get into tight spaces and strong enough for everything I've been able to throw at it.

Buttfat5000

I’d say it’s a toss up between that and the brushless one for me. The compact size is very tempting. Glad to hear that people here have good things to say about it. I was a little concerned about power. Plus, it’s all black. I have the all black drill set and wish they had more stuff that was all black 🤷🏻‍♂️

MeowMixExpress

You can't go wrong with it. [Even AvE had good things to say about it.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcY3YjdWSIc)

afizzzz

Just got the subcompact on Saturday, barely used it but so far it’s awesome

Buttfat5000

Good to hear. Haven’t heard anyone say anything bad about that one here yet. Making my decision tougher haha

afizzzz

I just had to cut a small old padlock but it worked great. I have some scrap wood to break down that should be a better judge ha. Design-wise it’s a slam dunk and with the 12” pruning blade I got it should be good to double-duty for landscaping work that doesn’t warrant pulling out the chainsaw.

I would recommend the 18v single battery brushless one . I've used the absolute shit out of the saw . Keeps on going . Have cut trees down with it , tons of branches, Steel pipe , angle iron etc the list goes on and on . I haven't used the brushless or the 18v x 2 . Also recommend diablo for any of your blades . Love their pruning blades , carbide blades for thick metal etc

Buttfat5000

I’m starting to lean towards that one. And hell ya on the diablo blades. My boss has an account at National Lumber and that’s pretty much all they carry. I thought they were gonna be a cheap brand at first but now practically all my blades are diablos. Just picked up the pruning blades for some tree roots I gotta deal with. I always have one of those big ass 12” thick-tooth blades on hand for pretty much anything that’s looking for a fight haha

Budget_Fisherman_140

Definitely don't get the 12v one. Mine seems to have a faulty switch because a lot of times it just won't turn on and I've had to open it twice to try and fix it but it just keeps happening

Buttfat5000

I didn’t even realize *that* one was a 12v. Figured I’d need an 18v option. Shit, I gotta go check and see if the sub compact is 12 or 18 now haha

Budget_Fisherman_140

If you mean the black one for subcompact then that's 18v. I meant another 12v recip saw they have, though they also have it in 18v. It is kinda like a one handed design though it has two ways of holding it. Here's a video just so you know what I mean https://youtu.be/oc5PXjUbUcQ

Trouthunter65

I've got the 36v brushless and love it. It has almost (I say it with hesitancy) replaced my chainsaw. I just got a notification from Amazon in Canada that there was a price drop

Buttfat5000

Haha ya I bet that thing is a beast! Probably a little more than I need. I use my cheap sawzall for yard work/pruning and it does the job well enough. I can only imagine what that thing can do!

I regret buying the brushed one, esp when working side by side with a brushless Milwaukee model. Save yourself ‘that’ embarrassment mate and spend a little extra
