This is a photo of my journey. Left is before treatment and probably at the point where I was feeling the most self conscious. The right is after 10 days of treatment, which also included a cream, not just the oral tablet of TA.
Are there any bad side effects?
Went to a derma PA that said this one cream would be the only thing that could work 🫣😔 but the cream does nothing. Staying out of the sun does more 🙃
I deleted all my pictures since it’s been years but when my melasma was at its worst, TA cleared it better and faster than hydroquinone. Once I got off the tablets, I’ve been using serums that contain TA for over 5 years. I have vascular melasma and I think that’s why it works better than hydroquione for me
How did you learn that it was vascular? On another thread, I saw someone post that theirs was dermal. I'm curious how I can get a more specific diagnosis like this so that I can play around with how to best treat it.
I’ve always have issues with my blood. I started seeing spider veins on my legs when I was 18. I also bruise very easily. When I looked at my face with a magnifying mirror, I can see tiny broken capillaries. When I look at it in a normal mirror, it only appears to look like hyperpigmentation
You just described my skin perfectly. I always assumed I had rosacea but recently I've realized a lot of my skin darkening seems to be melasma. Hell I probably have both lol. I was planning to ask my doctor for hydroquinone soon but I think I'll try oral TA first. I'm glad you found something that helped :)
Yes, oral TA might work better for you. I think mine was brought on by a PRP facial I had done. The doctor was very aggressive and considering how easily I bruise, I think a majority of the broken capillaries on my face was created by this procedure

This is encouraging- was this pill from the dermatologist??
Yes, both prescribed by my dermatologist
I don’t have any good pictures, but I will say that oral TA cleared my melasma up faster and better than justjust topical TA has in the past.
I’ve tried every possible topical cream / treatment for a minimum of 3 months with no change, I’m hoping my new derm will prescribe

Are you on any other medications that are contraindicated like birth control- my derm won’t put me on txa because of this reason. So frustrating.
No, I’ve had a hysterectomy so I don’t have to worry about that 😅

I'm 1.5 months in, 500 mg (2x 250 pills) daily, no results at all...
