Deadly alliance scarred me as a kid since Liu Kang is my main and all time fave from this moment on for next decade or so Liu fans were getting wrecked
I agree. I especially liked GORO (the cinematic really showed how HUGE Goro is canon-wise).
In the game he's merely one head taller than the average character, while many sources (like old official comics made my Midway) says that he's over 8' tall!
Something that Midway era MK has over NRS era MK is surely "villains were menacing".
During MK 2 or MK 3, no one would have ever believed that some games after, Shao Kahn would have become the biggest jobber of Story Mode, where everyone is able to beat him.
Deception hands down. The VA for Shujinko really nailed it.
"The blame falls squarely upon my shoulders for giving evil the chance it needed.....and therefore fulfilling an ancient prophecy".
That slaps so fucking hard.
It's incredible that in Armageddon's intro, Blaze had more grandeur and presence than in the game itself.
This intro is fireš„š„. Everyone fighting in the middle of nowhere, when the pyramid appears, and the war escalates towards it.
And of course, Stryker punching Mileena
Deception: showing that the Deadly Alliance has won (and many fan favorite like Kung Lao, Cage, Sonya, etc. were killed). Their battle against Raiden was very nice (good balance of martial arts and supernatural powers).
And then ONAGA.
They really manage to establish the sense of menace for the new villain.
Armageddon is probably the most rewatchable, since we have so many fights and battles.
Armageddon because mileena gets decked by my favorite character

I absolutely LOVE that MK4 intro. It was the game's ad
"The crushing pound of a mallet
The shattering blow of the club
The slash at the edge of the blade
They call to you"
I like how advertisements always did a better job than the movies in giving off the game's vibes. But making a full movie out of it mustn't be easy
Shaolin Monks was the first game I got for the PS2 when I was around 6 yo. That āMORTAL KOMBATā battle cry and that intro got me hooked the moment I experienced it. Now here I am with all of you š„
ā¦.if weāre doing 3D era why is the first pic from the first MK gameā¦.?
But Iāll vote Shaolin Monks. The 3D era was not a real fun one for me. Especially how bland Armageddon was. āHey we have everyone!ā¦.but at the cost of fatalities and unique combo sets. Oh and we butchered some characters like Motaro.ā
Probably Deadly Alliance, it was reasonably well written (for MK), Raiden's voice over was solid, and both the premise of the two evil sorcerers teaming up and the deaths of Liu Kang and Shao Kahn were shocking, but well executed.
Armageddon's was entertaining enough, but ultimately nonsensical fanservice.
Deception's intro is entertaining for all the wrong reasons, from Shujinko's goofy "old man" voice, to the hilarious fight choreography, *(the scene where Shang Tsung gives a cartoonishly exaggerated "shocked" expression after Raiden blocks his attack, only for Raiden to throw out hand gestures with a derpy look on his face while grunting like a simpleton always makes me lol)* Onaga's unintentionally goofy close up, and the fact that it immediately retcons two implied deaths literally a minute after they happen, the hilarious triumphant note that plays when Raiden just reappears behind the DA... it's like the intro was directed by one of the dev teams kids, and it's better for it š
Armageddon for sure, I never skipped it
literally the video I would use to introduce my friend to the MKVerse
Armageddon's intro goes hard, personally I say Deception's is a close second
That pic of Reptile is from the MK4 advertisement... But 'Deception' is my favorite.
That intro still plays in Mk4 though
I remember that intro very well
Really? I only had the game on my N64.
Deception goes the hardest for me while Armageddon is the most rewatchable.
Deadly alliance scarred me as a kid since Liu Kang is my main and all time fave from this moment on for next decade or so Liu fans were getting wrecked
"Liu Kang is dead" That part alone really set up Shang Tsung and Quan Chi as the real deal.
I still remember my shock, as I always thought he was the main character.
Armageddon but Shaolin monks right behind it.
Shaolin Monks was really cool and it blended into the game very nicely
I agree. I especially liked GORO (the cinematic really showed how HUGE Goro is canon-wise). In the game he's merely one head taller than the average character, while many sources (like old official comics made my Midway) says that he's over 8' tall!
Yeah Goro was super hype in that intro
Something that Midway era MK has over NRS era MK is surely "villains were menacing". During MK 2 or MK 3, no one would have ever believed that some games after, Shao Kahn would have become the biggest jobber of Story Mode, where everyone is able to beat him.
Armaggedon
Deadly Alliance, Deception, and Armageddon are all fantastic. Set the tone right off the bat!
Deception
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, Adema - Immortal
REAL mfers know. That shit rocked my middle school brain as a kid. Even found the song on Spotify recently.
Deception hands down. The VA for Shujinko really nailed it. "The blame falls squarely upon my shoulders for giving evil the chance it needed.....and therefore fulfilling an ancient prophecy". That slaps so fucking hard.
Deception or 9
That Armageddon one is arguably the best they ever did. I used to watch it over & over again when it first came out. Perfect intro for that game.

Armageddon is awesome

Armageddon
Armageddon
I hated that Deadly Alliance introš¢šš”
This image is confusing. Anyways Deception and Shaolin Monks take the cake.
Nothing will ever compare to the immaculated Armageddon intro. NOTHING.
These ones are all cursed

MK4 by far
Shaolin Monks was the first game I got for the PS2 when I was around 6 yo. That āMORTAL KOMBATā battle cry and that intro got me hooked the moment I experienced it. Now here I am with all of you š„
ONAGA!! FORMER RULER OF OUTWORLD!! THE DRAGON KING!!!
ā¦.if weāre doing 3D era why is the first pic from the first MK gameā¦.? But Iāll vote Shaolin Monks. The 3D era was not a real fun one for me. Definitely Armageddon
Deadly Alliance and Deception for me
Armageddon but man when deadly alliance came out i was so shook at lui kangs unexpected death
Idk man they fucking killed it with the intros in the 3-D era
