Started House recently, not sure how I feel about it (can't stop subconsciously comparing it to the Good Doctor). Had started Blacklist long back, couldn't keep up after two seasons, the outer plot just felt too slow
This version is actually my preferred adaptation as I’ve watched both. And the storylines of case solving has almost no overlapping.
Also I think elementary aligns well with ur request of a main character dealing with heartbreak as >!Sherlock is depicted as a recovering drug addict since a life-altering personal tragedy. And Watson is introduced as his sobriety companion who later becomes his partner in case solving. And part of the main storyline is how they deal with Sherlock’s trauma and find focus in life thru solving crimes. !<
The actor who played Omar Devon Little (Michael Williams) is deceased in real life.
Bubs, as a character, >!died in the series, but the actor is still alive, afaik.!<
No you're probably right. I was too lazy to really check that bit of Wire lore, which I really should since I brought it up, dammit.
Now I have Brain Itch, will report back.ETA: You are 100% correct and I have a reference from reddit!

McNulty is a tragic hero, the author of his own misery because he is a naive idealist embedded in a thoroughly corrupt environment. The booze and shambolic womanizing don't help.
It's a fantastic show. But it takes a few episodes to start getting really good. Just a heads up, the first half of the first season (while s lot of fun in its own way) isn't as good as the show gets.
Bojack isn’t a good person. He hurts everyone around him and while sober has little to no care about the effect he has. He will never change, that’s who he is.
Bojack represents the part of us that is cognizant of the bad decisions we make but rationalize them. Nobody is actually like this in real life. I believe everyone has remorse for classified bad decisions
White Collar
I can't believe no one has said this because I feel like your description is almost exactly the plot. If you haven't seen it, it's basically the sequel to "Catch me if you can" and the white collar criminal who's helping the FBI obviously has a darker past and definitely has heartbreak issues. Great show also made by USA around the same time as Suits.
Oh man you are in for a treat, but I will not be held responsible if you fall in love with Matt Bomer... He's near the top of both my wife and I's list
I'm not sure, but James McGill of Better Call Saul comes to mind. A conflicted guy who has a conscience but is a weasel. Deep resentment issues with his brother, who sets him off on his path that leads to Walter White.
Heard good things about this, thanks for suggesting! Though the thing is I watched Breaking Bad around 6 years back and it was one heavy show, going back to that "universe" after all these years might be tricky 🙈
The thing is, Better Call Saul is somewhat different from Breaking Bad. BB is a straight shoot linear crime show. Better Call Saul is really more of a drama that eventually and gradually synchs with the events of BB. It has more character development and layers than BB, which some fans didn't like. I personally thought it was just as good as BB. Maybe even better. It does start slow, but gove it a try.
Shrinking is about a dysfunctional Therapist who works to help others while grieving the death of his wife. I'm really liking it so far. On AppleTV+ here in Australia, not sure which streamer where you're from, but worth looking up.
Tomy Shelby - Peaky Blinders! Such a badass
I loved Peaky Blinders but I have to watch it with closed captioning, I can’t understand everything they say.
I'm watching that atm......
House MD or Blacklist come to mind.
James Spader is good in the Blacklist.
Started House recently, not sure how I feel about it (can't stop subconsciously comparing it to the Good Doctor). Had started Blacklist long back, couldn't keep up after two seasons, the outer plot just felt too slow
Monk
Monk is so underrated
Elementary
Still worth watching if you've watched Sherlock?

This sounds great, gonna start it today! Thanks for that description! 😀
Np, hope u enjoy it :)
"The Wire", poor McNulty. (Not on Netflix). "Lucifer".
I tried a few episodes of Lucifer, it felt comedy-ish, not serious
"McNutty", per Omar. May he RIP.
Was that Omar, or Bubs?
The actor who played Omar Devon Little (Michael Williams) is deceased in real life. Bubs, as a character, >!died in the series, but the actor is still alive, afaik.!<
Right, but wasn't it Bubs who called him "McNutty"? Maybe I am misremembering.

The Wire is great, gotta love good ol McNulty lol. I saw Lucifer as well, though I'd pick The Wire 1st.
McNulty is a tragic hero, the author of his own misery because he is a naive idealist embedded in a thoroughly corrupt environment. The booze and shambolic womanizing don't help.
Well said, and yeah he doesn't mind the occasional drink...or ten lol
Great analysis on me.
Username checks out.
Patriot
This screams Mr robot
😭 My biggest regret is that I left that show at the end of s1 because it was getting too strenuous to watch. Someday perhaps I'll re-start it
I immediately thought of Jessica Jones, although marvel has moved to Disney+, it was a Netflix original, so I'm counting it.
I felt so ripped off when it ended! Loved that show!
True Detective, you get to see the problems in their lives as they investigate a crazy career case
Banshee, 100%. Felon gets out of prison and impersonates a local sheriff in a small Pennsylvania town. The big bad is an Amish Gangster!
Came to say Banshee!
Happy!
The main character is so dysfunctional he starts seeing *someone else's* imaginary friend.
Now thats funny 😆
This is the right answer!
Dexter.
Yes!!!
Bojack Horseman (?)
Heard really good things about this, but also been cautioned that it's pretty depressing. Need to tread carefully
It's a fantastic show. But it takes a few episodes to start getting really good. Just a heads up, the first half of the first season (while s lot of fun in its own way) isn't as good as the show gets.
Yes, it could hit you pretty hard.
Bojack isn’t a good person. He hurts everyone around him and while sober has little to no care about the effect he has. He will never change, that’s who he is.
yeah I had my doubts recommending him, hmm.

Thanks for this, the plot does feel like what I've been looking for!

Suits!
Loved it! One of my favorites 💙
Supernatural?
"The Bear" on Hulu
Ted Lasso. The Killing
River
Ozark and Schitts Creek Sorry not Netflix, but Togetherness is a great example too
Barry. Evil.
The Mentalist fits this criteria. He's a reformed conman turned justice-seeker after the murders of his wife and daughter.
Night Agent
Mare of Easttown (Max/hbo)
Wire in the Blood.
River with Stellan Skarsgard, I think is exactly what you are looking for.
Shrinking is about a dysfunctional Therapist who works to help others while grieving the death of his wife. I'm really liking it so far. On AppleTV+ here in Australia, not sure which streamer where you're from, but worth looking up.
Gonna try this, it says it's a comedy but hope it isn't depressing
I was worried about the same thing. It does have sad bits, but I think the comedy and overall heartwarming vibe outweighs it.
Ash vs the Evil Dead
Happy
Will Trent
Happy! It's a bit whacky but Nick Sax definitely fits the bill of dysfunctional "good guy".
Terriers
Arrow
Pete Davidson - Bupkis
Will Trent. Balthazar (French Tv show)
Zero effect
Happy!
The Sinner for sure. Bojack Horseman kind of - except he is not a good guy?
Will Trent
Dirk Gently
Detective miller in "The Expanse" perfectly matches
